I shot a 60 pound compound as a kid and after years of not shooting a bow at all i recently bought a 40# longbow and while i can draw and hold for 10 or 15 seconds i felt the tension on my fingers was a little too much for a smooth release and a good consistent anchor so to make it easier on myself to shoot traditional and not develop any bad habits i swapped it out for a 35 pounder which will probably be closer to 38 with my draw length of around 29 plus inches. I plan on shooting this for a year or so and maybe moving up to a 40 which will probably be the heaviest I will ever go even for hunting.

Ok. I dove into this addiction with Jeff. All my questions and thoughts on setting up a bow and arrow build. I used the arrows you mentioned. Ordered the 62 inch Hermit X10 @ 35Lbs to accommodate my 31 1/2 inch draw. 250 grain up front. Jeff I got those arrows flying nice bare shaft. My problem is hitting knocks. Two arrows in arrow one after the other. Sheesh. All your fault! 😊

I did it Thursday this week. Killed a big doe with my hybrid longbow. My bow is 46# @ 28” and I draw 29”. I’m shooting Easton Traditional arrows, Zwickey Eskimos. My shot away on the ground. About 17 yards. Shot was a little high. Arrow went in to fletch and broke off. I didn’t butcher yet but it looks like I may have penetrated the shoulder blade. I’ll update after processing mid week next week. I’ve been addicted to these videos and did all the tuning. My setup shoots great. My arrow is 540 grains and chronographed at 175-180fps I’m super excited to make it happen. This is the first critter I ever shot at with my longbow Thanks for all the help.

My IPad was lagging. Some more info. Shot went in between 5th and 6th rib. Exited between 10 and 11. About 3-4” below spine. Both lungs looked bad. Not much blood in first 10 yards. Then opened up real good. Was dead in another 10 yards. Lived about as long as it took me to type this. Super thick overgrown area that was forested I don’t know when. The area is very high stem count with thorns everywhere. Parts of it you can’t even stick your arm in it. But you go in after your deer. I’m super excited to do this with a longbow.

@davida.4933 No, a 38#bow/arrow can NOT penetrate the skull of a Grizzly Bear. Therefore, if you encounter a Grizzly Bear face to face on ground, you will be killed by the Grizzly Bear. Sure you can carry a gun to protect yourself. But if you do, you are not a real bow hunter because you are protected by a gun. Also, you can hide on the tree-stands in the tree, but if you do so, to bear, you are just an dishonourable sneak attacher, not a winner. A REAL BOW HUNTER, when he encounter a Grizzly Bear, he should be able to kill the Grizzly Bear face to face on the ground with his BOW, NOT the GUN.
