Thank you for the tutorial! I finally learned how to make a buttonhole on my machine. Great explanation and easy to follow!

I’m the new proud owner of a Bernina 540 favorit. The manual does not address the buttonhole stitch controller, so I was thrilled to find your video. Thanks for taking the time to provide such a thorough explanation of the buttonhole procedure. I appreciate your willingness to share!

Hallo zusammen!

Thanks for taking the time to do this tutorial, much appreciated. I've just bought a (probably third or fourth-hand) 530-2 Record and looking forward to using it. So this really helps!

I've had mine since new 1962 -- how time flies. Everything is metal - not plastique like modern machines. Mine has just gone in for a total service and overhaul. I've sewed everything from sacks and blanket greyhound coats to bellydance costumes over the years.

Just want to say a huge THANK YOU for your Bernina videos. I've sewed and collected machines through the years. I recently had a major sewing project and pulled some of my diff machines out to see which would work the best. Each one at one point or the other had issues. So I pulled out my Bernina 530 that I had serviced couple years ago and hadn't put in use. Well, I ended up using it for this project, however I could not get it to go in reverse without having to pull at my fabric. You have just solved an issue after I saw you describe that little stopper bar inside the stitch length lever. All I had to do was push my lever in and turn to remove that stopper bar. It was a simple fix. THANK YOU so very much!!!!!

You have clipped the foot on back to front. The hooks are for cords to reinforce the buttonhole.
@InStitches Жыл бұрын
The foot is on correctly. It would not work if it was back to front. This foot has the hooks on both ends, as do a lot of button hole feet.

Thank you! I have my Grandma's Record. I pretty much sewed straight lines for years, and now I'm learning to sew on a bigger project. This machine is a charm. I had it serviced one many years ago and it's still working. How often do you recommend having it serviced? Do you have another video on how to use the zipper foot? Thank you!
@InStitches Жыл бұрын
If the machine is getting a lot of use, I would recommend annually for service. Maybe every few years if it's not being used much. No video on the zipper foot yet. Thanks.

Thank you very much for this well explained video. I recently purchased this same machine from an elderly lady. It works fine, but this stitch width adjuster knob is very stiff. I have to struggle to move it from side to side. How can I loosen it little? Does it need oiling or something else?
@JohanLarssonKiruna4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you probably only need to oil it. A drop a day for a few days should be enough, if you are able to move it a little at least. On the machine I found recently, the needle position knob was seized by corrosion. I had to remove it completely to be able to clean it, but now I can move it with my fingertips.

@@JohanLarssonKiruna I just purchased a Bernina 530 Record, and while most functions are working fine, the Needle Displacement Level (13 in the owner's manual) is frozen, as you indicate that yours was. How did you remove yours? I don't want to break anything on this lovely old machine.

@@philipmanelaSorry, I don't remember in detail, and the machine is currently in storage, so I can't take a look at it to refresh my memory.

@@JohanLarssonKiruna No problem. I got mine freed up with a few drops of sewing machine oil and heat from the wife's hairdryer. All good now.

Sorry for asking, but when moving the lever in between the bottom stop to the left one, does the needle position knob flip all the way to the right? From the very left position to the very right? (I'm trying to adjust the mechanism after a repair, and in no way can I get the needle positioning going to both the left and right extremes within the range of the lever in between the stops.)
