Professional Tattooer here: Always love seeing deep dives on the craft and want to throw a few things out there. Personally I tattoo around freckles, and skin markings of the like, just in case they change shape and if asked any tattooer would comply with your concerns. Any reputable shop anymore will never reuse equipment aside from the machine , tray and spray bottles which are heavily sterilized with hospital grade cleaners (Madicide / Cavicide) making infection / disease risk miniscule , usually any infections come after individuals leave the shop through unintentionally resting their new tattoo on dirty surfaces or cuddling up with their pets or just flat out neglect Plastic barriers are placed on everything and thrown out after each tattoo. The cost on products has gone down tremendously since "the olden days of tattooing" and are mass produced (IE Needles) it wouldn't even be worth it to use the same needle on two separate individuals, you'd be surprised but that is still a common concern and question for some folks This'll prolly get buried but feel free to drop a question if you got em !

@@perhapstangie Hey there 1 & 2.) You can absolutely get tattooed when its warmer out. Best thing to do is clean it regularly keeping sweat from sitting in the tattoo / keeping it out of direct sunlight until its settled in, which for a small tattoo like that should heal generally quickly. 3.) Tattoos have best longevity when outlined in black which is common practice and also will show up just fine regardless of skin tone 4.) Top 5 questions truthfully id say ask as many as you need to make sure your concerns are addressed. Its our job to inform you of the process and give you a tattoo that you'll be happy with / will stand the test of time. Biggest thing is just make sure they go over the aftercare instructions with you Hope this helps, Happy tattooing!

I did thousands of MRI scans and had maybe a half dozen of people complain about a burning sensation in their tattoo. They were usually newer ones with lots of red pigment, the radiologists theorized that it might be iron oxides in the red ink, which would make sense because iron is strongly affected by magnetic fields.

My ex gf's legs were full of birdshot due to a combination of criminal negligence and near manslaughter and I can tell you, she felt her legs burn when ever they checked her legs with the metal detector. The material moving around your flesh feels like a burning sensation apparently.

I have a large b+w tattoo and a smaller color tattoo with no red in it. I’ve had a few mris since getting them and haven’t felt anything so the red pigment hypothesis makes sense

@@brionyhall4250 It was a rare occurrence, and there were never any lasting effects, just some discomfort during the scan. It only seemed to happen when the patient was all the way in the scanner, like for a spine exam where the scanner was producing more radio frequency and stronger magnetic fields. It never seemed to happen during a knee exam, for example.

@@brionyhall4250 We actually stopped telling patients that. it’s hard enough to get a person comfortable in the MRI scanner without giving them the idea that they might feel a “burning sensation” lol. They always had a panic button so they could stop the scan if they needed to. The affected patients never actually experienced pain, just discomfort. And like I said, it was usually newer tattoos.

Another random risk factor left out - keloids! I was warned as a child to avoid tattoos and piercings, as I have a tendency to develop keloid scar tissue. I developed one the first time I tried to pierce my ears.

Your lymph nodes, liver, kidney's are all impacted. Research in Germany revealed a high incidence in liver failure within 10 yrs of tattooing. The research grants were pulled after the aforementioned and more was reported, due to pressure from a growing industry (pharma is involved too). Furthermore, it is hypothesized that the nano particles of heavy metals naturally occurring in the inks can cross the blood brain barrier. Again, the financial backing is not granted therefore the needed research has been halted. Good luck.

I live in a holiday destination and work in same people from all over the world visit mostly in 21 to 40 yo bracket right in tattoo age group heres the thing i have become good friends with regular tattoo artists that visit they tell me they do ok but nothing like the business they had a decade ago ...2009 to 2015 was peak interest is slowly dropping off now ... They added and said in our city of 3million in 2 years only one other tattoo shop opened And 6 laser removal clinics have opened and climbing

Starting with metallic inks as one of the 'random' risks was cool, reminds me of the House M.D. episode where a guy on death row gets stuck in an MRI and it starts trying to suck the tattoo ink out of his skin due to his prison tattoos including heavy metals in the ink. Nice to know that show wasn't complete fiction.

Actually most of the medicine in that show was pretty accurate. There definitely were some where they took liberties and 2-3 where it was almost a throw away episode. However they actually had doctors consult on scriptwriting!

My background is in pathology (that’s why I follow this excellent channel), but I’m no expert on sleep itself, tbh. However, I often have trouble sleeping, and I’ve found mindfulness / yoga nidra to be very helpful - it’s relaxing and encourages better sleep patterns. There are several apps available that can work on your phone, and several KZbin channels too. You don’t watch the KZbin videos, by the way, - just play in the background. It’s not an instant fix - it needs practice (a couple of weeks, say). Best time (of course!) is in evening just as you go to bed.

The blue light emitted from your phone is an obvious reason, but also, it interrupts hormone production which helps you sleep. Stay off the phone at night. Also LED lighting is harmful to our bodies in many ways. We are surrounded by LED all day. There’s a video of kids in school subjected to different kinds of lighting. They found LED and fluorescent lighting caused ADD behavior in kids, but the incandescent lighting calmed them and they were able to sit quietly in class and participate by being able to concentrate and answer questions. Look up the harmful effects of blue and LED lighting. Our hormones are extremely important. You put endocrine disruptors in our daily lives and it messes you up. It’s almost like someone knew things like this would slowly take over and cause subtle disease that would ‘require’ the use of medication to ‘get us through’. Sleep is one of the most important functions to our body. Do some research and take care🌸

Same thing that has worked since forever. Eat healthy, meaning no processed foods. Stick to animal products. Some fruit and vegetables are okay just don't eat fruit too soon before bed time because of the sugars in fruit. Get regular exercise. Not sit and be fit. Real exercise. Read books. A couple of hours before bed, dim the lights in the house to simulate the twilight. Give it a few weeks and you'll be amazed at how well you'll sleep.

I saw some information that tattoos can affect autoimmune diseases. Because the ink is detected by the body as foreign, it can flare up the immune system. If you have autoimmune conditions like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc, there could be a risk of flare-ups of the condition after the tattoo. So many things are being found to be associated with autoimmune issues, even common conditions like diabetes, thyroid disorders, irritable bowel symptoms.

I'm heavily tattooed and have also worked in a tattoo shop (as a piercer, but have tattooed myself and on some close friends) and I think this would be mandatory information on every website for any place providing tattoos. I want to point out that even if the tattoo studio have a good reputation it sadly can come down to chance. I've come across a guy that I let try my latex gloves if he was in need if he runs out of gloves. The dude gave me back the glove after he tried it... I don't don't think I need to say much more. Sure, gloves are not that cheap, but you absolutely don't reuse a glove, a needle or anything really. I don't have any insight to any numbers of cases or anything but my guess is that there shouldn't be as many cases of infections or the alike nowadays because of how easily accessible and cheap disposable needles and grips have become. At the same time, it has become much cheaper over all, so almost any person can afford to buy the equipment. And so without any real knowledge of either the function of the body or tattooing in general. I've had reactions against different pigments twice, and both times it was red pigment. To my knowledge it's usually green and red pigments that people usually react to. From the red pigment the tattooed area raised like it was swollen for a couple of weeks and got pores like 2-3 mm i diameter but not in a way that it looked symmetric or what I should call it. It was not a certain amount in a limited area. Where the pores was there is now no pigment. The rest of the tattoo is OK but has some areas where it's not as intense. When I told the tattoo artist he threw away all the bottles of that red pigment, which shows he is really serious in my opinion. I am very sensitive in a way, but not for allergies. If i get gasoline or oil from cars on my hands I can taste it in my mouth almost instantly. The same with shampoo, oddly enough with dish-washing fluid. i suppose there could be just certain chemicals that "shines through". I'm also very sensitive to light, sound and vibrations, so I suspect it can be symptom or a "trait" of my possible ADHD/Autism/Borderline/Bipolar diagnosis. I live in Sweden by the way. For others in Sweden, I recommend utilizing the right to get blood work done to check if you've got infected after accidentally puncturing a glove or somehow otherwise poking yourself with a needle you've worked on your client on. This is free of charge for people working in this area and you are allowed for one test every year I believe. Remember, there's no direct point to do this directly when you have done this by accident. Instead wait a few weeks so that the possible infection can show if there actually is any traces of a infection of any kind. Please, if I am wrong about anything, point it out! I'm not trying to spread false information.

Sometimes, tattoos can create anxiety if you made it particularly big or covering a big area through one session, as it happened with me. I have many tattoos, and the last one I made on my back, covering it, created severe anxiety affect upon healing. Obviously, it was related to the inflammation, alcohol consumptions several days earlier, and overall exhaustion. However, anxiety rooted and I discontinued my tattoo coloring on the back leaving it partially finished. Tattoo removal is even more painful process. Even small tattoo removal may cause skin decoloration (white instead of natural a bit tanned for me). Thus, these videos are very nice to watch because they contribute to a better understanding how tattoos work and there is nothing super serious about them affecting the body. Consequently, less anxiety as in my case.

Indeed! Removal is costly and very painful and can produce white patches. My husband had 2 small blue tattoos removed on his hands and it took almost a year and was extremely painful. Luckily we were friends with the laser tech and they were free; otherwise it would have cost around $1200 because of repeated visits.

Just a PSA: I'm 44 and recently did a hair analysis and I have an extreme aluminum and nickel toxicity. The doctor said this was very unusual. This affects kidney & thyroid function, and triggers terrible migraines. I otherwise live a very healthy lifestyle. My unique trait: I am heavily tattooed.

I have several tattoos and take cleaning new ones very seriously, especially after being hospitalized with necrotic cellulitis last year. I just had a baby, was careless and exhausted, and didn't clean open sores (from psoriasis, not tattoo related). Keep your skin clean, tattoos are pretty but are technically injuries to your skin! The first 3 days are critical. Wound wash and Aquaphor are your friend.

My tastes change too much for me to be comfortable getting a tattoo. But, I love looking at a good tattoo on other people. I've never had anything against tattooing. As repeatedly stated, with a reputable artist and good after care they are relatively saft. I had never thought about what goes into making the ink. Mercury, cobalt, cadmium, chromium, and nickel Don't sound like things I want collecting in my lymph system.

Something else to keep in mind: a few years ago a study showed that 1/3 of the autoclaves in tattoo studios surveyed were NOT functioning properly. Just because there is an autoclave does not mean it is being properly monitored and maintained/tested for effectiveness.

One weird thing that happened to me with my tattoo; i got my tattoos in 2021, one on my right caff which was in march and one on my left arm in july. did the after care routine, healed nicely with no complications. a year ago in 2023 (2 years after having the tattoos), i got sick, went to the doctors (got tested for strep throat), and got antibiotics. After i finished the antibiotics, i took some probiotics to balance out. While i was taking the probiotics, my first tattoo on my leg, which is the oldest, starting flaring up and itching, ONLY duting the time i was taking probiotics. My arm was completely fine, and as soon as i stopped taking my probiotics, the flaring and itching went away and my tattoo went back to normal 🤔 like i said, both tattoos healed perfectly fine, no infections or anything that had red flags of improper care, and only my leg on flared, but not my arm! And they are still fine to this day!

I have tattoos on my body the one particular tattoo on my wrist that I got during my school days felt burning sensation when I went for MRI. The technician told me about it earlier to let them know if it hursts, but it was bearable.

You still have a silvery outline, the tattoo isn't 100% gone and it hurts 10x more to get removals than all the tattoos I've had done.

They use lasers all the time, for keloid treatment and other scar fading procedures as well as to fade large birthmarks, etc so it must be like an xray and it's fine in small and rare exposures, but I'm not a scientist

I am moderately tattooed and I have a spine injury, so I am in MRI machines pretty regularly. I’ve only had the heat up once which wasn’t the best thing to experience, but it wasn’t anything to make a big deal about.

Yeah, I learned the hard way about overlapping tattoos why you’re not supposed to. I got one on my leg and then about a week later got another one 6 inches below it. The top one got infected and dripped drip sweat down into the other one. Oh buddy Was that bad! Pretty much the whole tattoo fell out. I still have the outline today but anything that was fill-in or color fell out and I mean that literally it fell out in the shower one day.

I find it interesting that you mention Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, as there’s something I’ve wondered that’s related about how extensive tattooing could potentially exacerbate that condition. Just a few years ago, a young woman who was popular on this platform passed away (her cause of death was never shared). She had always been very open about her EDS diagnosis as well as how her entire body pretty much was covered with tattoos. I couldn’t help but wonder what (if any) correlation might have existed in her deteriorating health prior to her death, as she’d been in & out of the hospital with the EDS symptoms worsening. One can’t help but wonder how tattooing potentially affects those like her with EDS or even those with other autoimmune conditions since it stimulates immune & inflammatory response in the body. 🤔💭❓

I had an odd reaction to a tattoo once. It is a pretty big tattoo with a lot of red ink and I got is sometime in October or November. It healed up nicely, no issues whatsoever. However the next summer (July? August?) it became itchy and swollen for a few days, kind of like an allergic reaction and just as suddenly, it stopped again. Never had any issues with it since, nor with any other tattoo. I still wonder what might have been going on there.

Furthermore, if you're planning on becoming a criminal don't get tattoos. Why? Because when the cops arrest people with tattoos they also photograph all of your tattoos making it easier to identify and catch you in the future. Another reason NOT to get tattoos is that whether it's fair or not, people will silently judge you and make negative false assumptions about your character without ever even speaking to you. Is that what you want? Maybe so, but not so much when you are older and those same tattoos aren't so cool anymore. 🤷 😔

I have multiple tattoos and i love them. I also have a hEDS and MCAS. Due to the MCAS i have “allergic” reactions to solid ink brand but not eternal ink brand and it only happens during flare ups. I don’t have experience with any other ink brands. It is one tattoo particularly and it is only the ink itself and not the yellow pigment. The yellow in my other tattoos have no issues, but the yellow in that one tattoo itches and gets red/hot and puffy on occasion. The rest of the tattoo that is in eternal ink and not in solid ink has no reactions. It’s very odd how the body works. Nonetheless i will continue to get tattoos.

One thing I've never heard anyone talk about is wouldn't laser tattoo removal increase the risk of skin cancer in the same way tanning or long term sun exposure would? It seems to me it would be very damaging to the skin while destroying the ink particles.

I have one tattoo that sometimes gets inflamed, like the lines become raised off my skin. It is seemingly random, kinda burns and itches. There’s nothing special about this one- all my tattoos are 6-8 years old and this one was from the middle of that. I have several dozen more and this is the only one ive had trouble with - even stick n poke india ink and BIC pen ink (dont do this, i was 13) have never given me problems. The tattoo in question was done with a bigger needle than I’m used to and I wonder if the artist used a different kind of ink than normal, but i have different tattoos from that artist that are fine. Its totally perplexing, the entire shape of the tattoo becomes raised and inflamed but none of the adjacent tattoos or skin are affected. I wish someone knew what this is!

My immune system apparently hates tattoo ink. I have 4 tattoos, and within a year or so each one blew out. My brother and I have a matching tattoo we got for his 21st birthday-this was 10 years ago- his looks as clean and sharp as it did the day we got it. Mine looks like I got it done in a prison 40 years ago. Luckily only one of my tattoos is in a high vis area, and I’d like to get it removed eventually.

Just don’t consume your mind regretting it. I hope the tats are pretty but I also understand ink free. I’m done at two. I love them both but second tat almost overwhelmed me with regret because of location. It is beautiful and my artist is amazing, extremely unlikely i’ll ever remove but No way I’m ever risking the feeling of…. Deep regret again. Focus on what matters and if you have a few specific you want gone forever, I wish you the best in removal, upload YT vids of removal process to help pay for it haha

I wish you the best. Removal is painful and very, very expensive. In your case probably teens of thousands of dollars. My husband had 2 small blue ink tattoos removed on his hands and it took almost a year, was excruciatingly painful and cost about $1200. Keep that in mind before getting any more tattoos.

This is true but, For the most part, the tattoo industry is self regulated. Most tattoo artists will not intentionally harm their clients for profit. It should indeed be fda regulated but you'll typically find that a lot of tattoo manufacturers think about the well being of their clientele.
