I use caffeine very sparingly, rather than daily or weekly. For pain relief as an "analgesic stack" Caffeine (60mg - 120mg) synergizes with Acetaminophen (1000mg) and Ibuprofen (400mg - 1200mg) for AMAZING pain relief. For tests and exams, especially early morning, when I need a bit of an extra stimulant to focus and not go ADHD. For competitions or tests for certifications when I need a physical performance boost. Otherwise, I completely avoid the stuff as much as I can.

Drinking your 1st cup of coffee after going caffeine free for almost a year was the most euphoric experience. I used to drink upwards of 500 mg a day for years and years, and I had built up a tolerance. Stopping at the gas station a few times a day to get an energy drink and it almost making me sleepy instead of giving me energy, I knew I needed to Completely take a break from caffeine. I’m about two years in drinking coffee again and caffeine, now 1 cappuccino in the morning, really puts me in an incredible mood.

Alan Thrall, a fitness/power lifting KZbinr also used to get migraines from caffeine. He made a video where he talked about it.

LOL...plenty of ifs ands and buts in here. However, I am a tea drinker: strong, black tea with no additives. Hot or iced, depending on season. In summer, I go through a 2 quart pitcher of iced tea in as many days. In winter, I have hot tea in the morning, and sometimes iced tea or soda with dinner...although I"ve cut way back on the soda for several reasons. A friend of ours, however, is a staunch coffee-holic, and claims to drink "only one cup of coffee a day." That said, his coffee mug is gigantic, and holds TWO ENTIRE POTS of coffee!!! He's been doing this for so many years that he's virtually immune to the effects, but would probably suffer badly from withdrawals. I can drink tea a night and still sleep okay; it's other issues that give me insomnia (ongoing grief; stress, anxiety, etc.). Tea doesn't stress me. I have my morning tea, and/or iced tea later in the day, and can still fall asleep on the couch in the middle of the day. (Oh, yeah--I'm 76 years old, so maybe naps are a thing now, anyway. LOL)

Life long caffeine addiction- 1.3 lbs of beans a week. Took BP and pulse immediately before and after an expresso double, many times; no change in either one. Also, would not the dieuretic effect of removing sodium have some of the beneficial effects of BP water pills, hydrochlorathiazide?

Even decaf coffee gives you a reaction? I cannot drink a 1/4 can of pepsi in a hour or it will spin up my anxiety then adrenaline kicks in and i go supernova , When i go to the dentist i tell them no epinephrine cause that starts a chain reaction . I find the best way to recover from a caffeine overdose is drink lots of water and flush your body out of it . If i ever do drink a pepsi which has 55mg of caffeine i can only drink it over a 12 hr period , but not all at once

Is the effect of caffeine on the cardiovascular system also directly related to adenosine receptor blocking?

I have ADHD. I have one 200mg caffeinated energy drink 1st thing in the morning and it helps me focus. If I don't have it, my head is like a 3 ring circus. It's all I have all day and it works wonders for me.

I had Supra Ventricular Tachycardia . Eventually having an RF Ablation. I am no stranger to ADENOSINE pushes intraveinously to "snap my heart rate back form 180 beats /minute to normal. Can you explain why ADENOSINE pushes are so dramatic to the patient and why only ambulance paramedics are allowed to carry it or the Emergency ward ? Plus why do they administer Adenosine ? Cheers.

It would be very interesting at the cellular level to look at the caffeine effect on GABA receptors(an inhibitory neurotransmitter).

Unfortunately, caffeine is only effective in increasing productivity the first day or two that you take it. After that, you level back out to normal levels and HAVE to take caffeine in order to remain at normal levels (unless you detox from it). So, if you are going to drink it or ingest it, better to do so once a week, to truly gain the benefits.

I don't know if anyone addressed this in the comments, but is there any known relationship between coffee drinking and narcolepsy? After at least a dozen sleep studies, I was diagnosed with narcolepsy in 2021 -- at age 64 (?) ! How did I get to be 64 before I was diagnosed? If there's a relationship between coffee consumption and narcolepsy, I'm guessing it's tenuous at best: I started drinking coffee when I was in my teens. I've never noticed any effect from coffee -- except that it tastes good and feels good going down my throat.
