Great job! I dont know if maybe you should have a small trickle vent through the new plasterboard in to the room so that the air can flow? You can get tiny circular ones...

Thanks, I pondered on that before I began the job and I decided that was perhaps the guidance for having a chimney capped off a room vent would provide some essential ventilation to prevent damp building up in the chimney and no need in this case as there is good ventilation via the existing gas flu outlet.

Thank you for the video. I have just had my back boiler removed. I wondered how the hole would be closed up.

Would I need an inset electric fire to put in its place

That’s an optional extra!

Think you might find may have a problem with damp and salt penetration from the chimney in the future because you didnt leave ventilation on the wall. I fell fowl of this and ended up paying a small fortune, all because i never vented wall to let the damp air circulate up, in your case, a copper pipe. Took six years before my walls all had salt contamination coming through the chimney and adjacent walls... hope yours will be okay

I recently bought a house and it had the same back boiler with fireplace. The engineer removed the gas fire and now it’s massive gate for spider and little creature to crawl into my house 😢 when I knock on the top of the wall, it sounds like it made of a plaster board. Do you think I can remove this without involving the construction engineer or council?

Sorry but It’s difficult to give advice without seeing for myself.
