Kinda proud, but my friend and I successfully went 3-for-3 in this gamemode last night. Our first was a raiju which we classified by setting up sound sensors at different locations to manipulate its speed once we noticed it was speeding up and down. Our second was a spirit and we determined that by timing how long it would take to hunt after smudging it. Finally we had a banshee, which we determined only after crossing 18 of the ghosts out before finally hearing it in the paramic. I love this gamemode. It is a challenge, but completely worth playing and very good on a map like Edgefield.

This challenge was straight not worth it lol. If you recreate it in custom settings, you get something like a 5x or 6x reward. 3 of those and you could get more than the weekly.

@coblerz So is custom settings: Keep items on death. You can learn multiple ways, but most of the time I'd wager people don't use outside resources mid investigation. I learn both in and out of game, but normally I keep them apart.

My shortest game in this challenge was actually a Yurei! While waiting for a hunt, it slammed the front door 3 times (without hunting). We thought it was too good to be true but nope, we got the most lucky Yurei!

I had a funny start to this challenge but a terrifying end. First ghost was a deogen, second was a banshee that forced me to spend more time ruling out wraith and phantom or just some other random ghost, and the third was a thaye that I had to double check whether it was a moroi by doing a line of sight test and I somehow survived. It followed me on my way to a hiding spot so I got incredibly lucky!

I got quite unlucky but still managed to guess almost everything I had the exact same reaction with a ghost switching the light almost instantly at the entrance and revealed to be twins Then I got Goryo, Yurei and Obake. Having Obake at the end was a relief because the other two drove me crazy

This is the first 'hard' challenge I've done, though I did the recent nightmare one that disables lights. I think I've finally come to grips with hunts. I still hate getting hunted and prefer to y'know investigate without getting murdered and kinda wish that there were ways outside of hunts to figure out some ghosts even if it takes a while (e.g stinky Goryo) but yeah. I got a Thaye, a Revenant, a Mare and a Demon. Got the Mare wrong, said Banshee. Didn't die but holding onto smudges for dear life. Yeah that light switch was too slow to be Mare. It's near instant. I usually think that in my anxiety I've pressed it twice. Imagine Luigi being terrified or something when I'm playing.

doubt insym will see this, but I came up with some minor ghost changes to make the yurei/goryo/mare combo (+ a few others) more engaging to play against on no evidence/sanity/pills. curious what insym n the community think 🧐(none of the ghosts would lose their current abilities, these would all be additions) Yurei -increases movespeed with LoS during hunt at twice the speed of a normal ghost (6.5sec to reach max) Spirit -increases movespeed with LoS during hunt at twice the speed of a normal ghost (6.5sec to reach max) Mare -base hunt speed determined by whether the lights are on or off in the room it starts its hunt on - 1.53 m/s (same as slow twin) off - 1.87 m/s (same as fast twin) Myling -during a hunt it gradually becomes quieter with LoS (13sec to reach silent) -dead silent during grace period (maybe? would make it very dangerous) Shade -has a 1/15 (~6.67%) chance to appear as a shadow ghost model per flicker during hunts; will happen at least once per hunt Goryo -while my changes to yurei/mare would leave goryo fine as it currently is, something small like increasing it's activity rate while you're in it's ghost room could be a possibility I tried to think of ideas that would mostly be number changes n hopefully not too difficult to implement. and the reason I chose similar abilities (yurei/spirit and mare/twins) was to not add more obvious 1 hunt ghosts (like phantom, revenant etc), adding a bit more investigation. All the changes somewhat coincide with their in-game lore as well.😄

This actually sounds pretty good, but i think the problem with ghosts is their behaviour isnt distinctive ex. mare ability is decently rare and can be mistaken for just a regular lightswitch interaction. I feel like it should be so their traits are made more obvious. They could buff mare so she turns lights off really often so you can actually find out the ghost by its passive behaviour.

@@Gaden-j1mr4t Yea i agree, I do like the mare turning off lights, maybe even a change to have mares roam to rooms with lights on specifically to turn them off would be interesting? However on the other hand if an ability is too frequent, mare light flicks and yurei door slams just giving themselves away might make their matches less engaging. Even though my shade idea, obakes ability but with a shadow model, is a dead giveaway, I feel like the risk of figuring something out during a hunt makes for a better gameplay loop. It's definitely not an easy thing to balance though, and there's been many times I'll just keep playing after a mare "ability" cause I'm jaded from other ghosts doing the same thing lol. With or without the proposed movespeed changes, mares ability definitely could use some tweaks

I do like some of these ideas, but I think the spirit one in unnecessary as you can easily tell if it is one based on the duration of time between smudges and hunts. Yureis might be a little too fast at 2x regular speed as that would be another one of the already quite a few really fast ghosts on no sanity and stuff so if you get a normal speed ghost, the yurei is another one instantly off the board whereas currently, without your change to it, when it comes to a yurei, it is practically impossible to figure out whether it is or isn't one. I like the idea, but maybe just make it do something different that doesn't involve speed changes. Or instead of speeding up it could slow down. Only deogens do that and they're insanely fast away from you and insanely slow close to you, but the yurei would be normal speed away from you and slower close to you. But that's another dead giveaway. More brainstorming would be required for this one in order to make it interesting but not easy

@@domcii9558 My main issue with spirit is while yes they're an easy identify, they have no strength, just a weakness (insym himself has mentioned his dislike for this before). To clarify the yurei/spirit speed change idea since it's definitely a bit confusing: Most ghosts move at 1.7m/s and if they have LoS of a player it is chasing, its speed will gradually increase over time, capped at 1.65 times its base speed. With continuous LoS, ghosts take 13 sec to reach this maximum speed. (This 13sec is also why I landed on 13 sec for the myling idea) And my idea for the yurei/spirit change would be that this speed increase happens twice as quickly (6.5sec, but that number could be tested and tweaked, maybe 8 or 9 instead?). So if the ghost doesn't have LoS very long, this might not be too noticeable, and the plan to give this to both spirit and yurei would keep their current abilities relevant, as you'd need to do more testing even after noticing the quicker speed increase. Either way I'm just hoping CJ somehow sees some ideas, or maybe insym does and mentions it, and then CJ tosses some around with DK so we eventually get some type of changes 😁

It's special ability to shut the front door... Does it only activate that if its ghost room is touching the front door? Or will it just do it randomly?
