My 05 Taurus manifold has a 2 inch diameter melted hole in it. There’s a wire (shown at 3:50) that burned a hole in my manifold , causing it to stop running. The plastic wire that goes to the EGR valve broke open, exposing this wire , which must have gotten hot enough to melt my manifold clean thru. Thanks for posting this video! It really helps

Yeah, the catalytic converter was clogged on this one, causing this manifold to melt where the egr pipe is..

@@luckysdiygarage Is it common for the wire that plugs into the EGR valve to get hot and melt the manifold? The wire melted my manifold and the wire also melted itself into the plastic of the manifold. It’s fused into the plastic now I am changing my manifold, but I worry that this will occur again if I don’t repair the source of the problem

@shakur481 I haven't heard of the wire being melted but it's a common problem with the manifold being melted do to a restricted exhaust system like clogged catalytic converters or bad intake valves that are sending the heat back to the intake where the egr pipe or pcv tube is

@shakur481 so I would do a leak down test to check the intake valves and do a back pressure test on the exhaust system and remove the cats to see if clogged

Hi are you talking about the Egr pipe or the two bolts

I have recently dealt with that issue. It took me two hours plus to remove it. It took heat, a few hits with a hammer. Good luck trying to find the correct metric wrench size. It takes a 28mm. The 27 barely breaks the surface. Let alone fit.

Was the old one leaking at the pcv vacuum port? I saw that it was gooed up there. Mine is leaking and making holes in that area. Do bad catalytic converters cause that or just bad pcv or both? Thanks for tge vid!!

Yes the intake manifold had a melted hole in between the PCV end port and the EGR valve do to clogged catalytic converters

Can you please respond to my question? You didn't show or tell anything about the gaskets that join the plenum with the lower intake. FELPRO sells a single gasket that goes on top of the lower manifold, while the three original figure-8 style gasket fits into the plenum. From the video, it looks like you didn't use the single gasket on top of the lower manifold. Maybe some else can answer my question based on your video. My question is: is it one or the other? I put the figure-8 style gasket in AND used the single gasket that cover the entire lower manifold holes. Now I've got a knocking noise coming from the engine. Is it one gasket style OR the other, but not both? And which one should I use. Another question: how did you know you needed a new plenum to begin with? Is there a way to check the old plenum? You did a nice job on the video, but I sure could use a little more information along the way.

Hi I apologize for not showing the gasket boss ..I used the figure 8 ones...you only use the one style gasket not both that can possibly cause a vacuum leak if not seated properly...and the the reason for replacing the manifold it was melted inside due to a clogged catalytic converter...cousing a vacuum leak and misfire...it's common with this vehicle...hope I answered your question...thanks for watching my video!! 🙏

HA, make a video of your children doing this, come on this is a cluster *uck of wires and hoses, unless your kids have been doing this since they were 10, I highly doubt they could do this and not mess something up just pulling some of these hoses out requires height and leverage and some muscle you can't do this from under the hood. If you've never done this, it's not at all easy, unless someone is with you over the hood showing you, but I stopped at 1:52. An in-depth video is what you need or someone with you who has experience before you attempt this. HA, so easy my kids can do this, unless you're trying to be humorous, that's bull*hit.
