Intamin has come a long way in the development of their mega and hyper coasters. The company continues to innovate for each new addition around the world- the latest of which being Kondaa. Daniel Schoppen discusses the process of working with Walibi Belgium to create the next generation of mega coasters, and what challenges took place to bring this ride to life.

I think it has to do with family friendlyness of the ride. A long, fast inversion would scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. Either way, great ride!

Intamin has consistently pushed the envelope and I think we are now seeing their prime in their coaster designs. These mega coasters and multi launch coasters are some of the best in the world. They have also seemed to drastically made larger strides in reliability, as that was an issue with their hydraulic launched coasters from the 2000s.

@@BloodCyl That really depends in when you're riding Kondaa, I've had amazing moments with the non-inverting roll but there are times that it doesn't do much (when the ride is running slow)

Kondaa is one of my favorite coasters. It’s great, its big, but not too big and therefore not too intense. Sure, gigantic coasters can be fun, but they are intimidating for joe average and when they are too intense, they are not re-rideable for normal people. I would love to see more coaster like that around the world.

I love this... This was unexpected, and vastly different than what you'd typically expect to hear from a manufacturer. It was enlightening, refreshing, and transparent. You can tell Intamin is GENUINELY trying to sell their company in a new light, and this guy they had on the floor representing the company, he deserves a raise! Perfect editing/presentation👌 Here's hoping we get something truly iconic from Intamin at Universal Studios Hollywood. Something in the realm of Velocicoaster.... Fingers crossed 🤞

We Will💙💙💙💙💙 Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift is a Muliti-dimension coaster form Intamin that goes over 70 mph. It will drop from the upper lot to the lower lot and interact with the elevators, and will feature a c-shaped spike based on the concept renderings

I'm really loving what seems to be this modern revolution of coasters! Manufacturers seem to finally be incorporating more unique elements and to be gaining a better understanding of how to get good flow and pacing onto their coasters. While right now it does feel that Intamin is mostly just trying to copy elements/styles of other coasters, especially from RMC, I think they've started to break into really understanding the details of what makes those elements great and will soon make leaps themselves. While yes, the non-inverting cobra loop is technically new, it was long overdue, but it does show their willingness to branch out a little. Overall, I'm just really looking forward to seeing how coasters evolve in the near future and see all the elements that will finally get on some coasters (like come on, how have we not gotten a double inverting zero g roll yet!)

It never fails to baffle me why people hold their phone out for no apparent reason on a coaster. When I first became a ride op, I assumed the majority of offenders would be people trying to sneak a POV, but now I'd say 75% of guests doing it aren't even doing it for a reason. They just mindlessly hold on to it with either social media open or nothing at all. Like why?! It doesn't make sense to me. I'll simply refuse to dispatch a train if anyone is holding a phone. It's dangerous for everyone on the ride and in the area.

A woman was TEXTING her friends on my ride once, and I was yelling at her to put it away, after she got off we told her not to do it again and she blatantly ignored us, because she queued back up again - 5 minutes later she's doing it again. I then tell her not to bother coming back on my ride, even though it was the end of the day. Every time I spoke to her she was texting, looking at her phone etc. Another time, I was next to a stranger on a ride - they knew I worked there as I was talking to the staff members. He got his phone out and I said "I'd put that away if I were you" - he replied with "It'd fall out my back pocket" (it was a stand-up coaster). He was taking videos, very obviously. Then, after, I told my friends working on the ride who told him not to come back - he started mocking them so I snapped and said "What if you dropped that and it hit someone?" (This coaster has a layout that's half above busy paths). He continued to mock me. Best thing - it was my birthday that day :/

The problem with mega coasters and why they haven’t sold well in a while is probably because the big parks that have room and can afford one already have a hyper by now. It’s rare for a park to grow to needing a hyper so it’s a highly competitive market with few actual sales.

I rode this on a cold day and it absolutely blew my mind. I'd take this any day over Untamed, Hyperion and Shambhala. Only Taiga beat this ride by a tiny amount in my opinion

i've not ridden shambhala or this one yet, but I doubt it can deliver the same airtime as untamed or the same speed and floater airtime as hyperion, But by the looks of it it may actually be a really good combination of untamed and hyperion

For Intamin, 'giga' does not mean 300-399 feet. Giga is just a coaster over 300 feet. Falcons Flight will be the worlds tallest roller coaster, which means it has to be taller than Kingda Ka, at 456 feet

afaik most rollercoasters, especially rmc and intamin have reliability issues their first 1 or 2 years of operation, it should sort itself out once all minor teething issues have been worked out

I heard it was related to sensors. A ride operator once told me during a downtime it was because the sensors were dirty, so they weren't working properly. My take on this is that water (it was a rainy day) messes up with the signals that are going through the power & data rails connecting the train to the automation system when it's in the station.

Honestly, I'm glad they went for the bunny hops instead of a heartline roll. However good it may be I can't help but feel like it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the ride like the bunny hops do.

Thats kind of where I'm at. The heartline roll would've been AWESOME, but it would've felt a little out of place, so I think ultimately they made the right call. But man it would've been cool to have both...
