I had the chance to spend three days and two nights at the hotel Charles Lindbergh just the week ago. This thing is immersive as hell. As you said, it’s all these details: At the hotel you are not treated as a hotel guest, but as an aeronaut or an explorer. You receive your personal logbook (yes, it’s a small book) with all the information you need, some postcards and further information. Your room is addressed with a gate number, level, and cabin no. The information they hand over to you is always like a newspaper. The menu at the restaurant Uhrwerk is a newspaper with articles and ads. In between you will find the food - just like ads for the food. Everywhere in the area you can hear the sounds of metal bending in the wind or coal burning somewhere below you. And there is steam everywhere. It comes from the ground, from tanks and valves. Everywhere are some moving parts and gauges. And everything looks so rusty and dirty from the charcoal. They also have some kind of artificial smell in that area. At last, the staff looks like they took them right of a British dock from 1920. This is definitely a must see you will never forget.

One of the coolest theme park experiences I got to experience was Rookburgh at night with HCL. It's a relatively small land, but when we were the only ones walking around the section, the lights dazzling and the ambiance playing, it really felt like we were transported to a whole other universe. I had never felt so immersed in a theme park before.

It just shows that you do not always need an IP to make an immersive land in a theme park.
@reptidan2 жыл бұрын
Thats more of an american thing anyway. Also, many IP’s age rather fast. General phantasy themes last longer. That being said, I feel that the US customer cares more about IP’s in themeparks the the average European.

@user-qz2ld3vt2d6 ай бұрын
i honestly think IP harms theming moreoften then enhances it. I will admit pandora and wizarding world look amazing. But for these there is tons of comic avenues, marvel campus etc. Often parks like phantasialand and efteling manage to make great areas because there is no ip, which means you dont have to worry about fanbases. TBH disney used to do this aswell. There is a reason pirates is still so popular.

A little over a month after the sudden and utterly unexpected opening of Rookburgh I spent 2 nights there. It was like in a dream! It is difficult to put into words how Phantasialand took up the theme of "flying machines" and "flying" and combined them into a unique theme world! From the menu cards, which came in the form of a daily newspaper during my visit, to the cozy pilot cabins, the fact that you are "scanned" with a metal detector just before entering the station, just like at the airport... It just really EVERYTHING fits together PERFECTLY!!!❤️

I did not know those walls were actually there to block sounds, although I find it interesting because can't the sound still just go over the walls? I don't know, I'm not an acoustic physicist. But that is crazy how things that surve a purpose and you don't even realize. It's actually mind blowing how they were able to build this ride with this land. The only thing is I bet it would be very challenging to retrack parts or refurbish sections.
@MatchTerm Жыл бұрын
Basically, if I'm correct, see sound waves as a type of energy, like light for example. What happens to light when it hits a surface? Part of it gets absorbed. Specific materials and colors can absorb said light more or less. Same thing with sound: it bounces, yes, but part of it gets absorbed, and how Rookburgh was built allows most of the sound waves to be absorbed before they bounce up over the wall.

What i tell everyone about Phantasialand: The park doesn't have as many rides as, for example, Europa-Park, but the rides they do have are world-class and are themed on, if not better, disney level. It's also one of the parks in germany that are well accessible by public transit. Just a short train ride from Cologne or Bonn and then it's a short bus ride to the park. For our last visit we chose to stay in a hotel in the town of Brühl as it saved us a couple of hundred euros. Our hotel was just like 400 meters away from the bus stop for the buses to the park. So you should check out surrounding hotels in the town if you're on a budget.

@yupyup83052 жыл бұрын
@@Ben-ik1vc absolutely the hight limit is great because it makes everything more compact and cramped together which helps the theming a lot but if they had the space for 1 or 2 more areas I don't think that it would decrease the quality of the park. Also I agree that it's better than Europa Park despite having a bias because Europa Park was my first theme park.

I find that Europa Park has more immersive areas than the older ones at Phantasialand. However, Klugheim and Rookburgh are on a completely different level, at least on par with Europa Park, if not even more so. Wooow really.. last time I went the small scale actually bothered me.. hm. Plus Europapark was my homepark all my life sooo😅 Thrillwise it sure is Phantasialand at this point but as an overall experience idk.. I would still say overall Europapark has the best theming.. or at least the most and offers a lot as a park. Would you agree? Im very excited about the new coaster and themeland tho
@IroAppe2 жыл бұрын
Phantasialand has significantly stepped up their game with Klugheim (where Taron is) and Rookburgh (where FLY is). Although I've always felt the same, that at Europa Park, you are being completely transported and immersed in some of the areas ("oh that looks beautiful, it's supposed to be Mexico" vs. "wow! I feel like I'm actually in Greece" is a small but considerable step). Those two new areas are so immersive, that they're AT LEAST on par with Europa Park, if not actually more so. Now that they've shown what they can do, I am excited what will follow. If they really get the permission to build a larger plot of land, we have quite something to look forward to. And the special thing is how they incorporate the coasters into the small but immersive lands, and what kind of thrill elements they can pack in there. These are absolutely fire, despite that they had to fit those tight height and space limitations. Coasterwise I find, that they do a much better job than Europa Park. Which is a shame, since Europa Park really has both the financial means and capabilities to also get to the top with one or two coasters like Taron or DC Rivals. But for that, they have to let loose of their theme to make every ride extremely "family friendly" (which has often been said that it's a wrong statement, since families consist of both kids and thrill-seeking adolescents). The whole rest of the park is family themed, they have something for every single group, from kids to seniors to coaster-beginners. Now it's time to also provide something for the remaining group out there, then they could really compete again in the European (and international) competition.
@slifer199644442 жыл бұрын
@@IroAppe Yeah i feel you. A real top coaster will bring Europapark back into the conversation. But for the whole package I still feel like Europaprk can be considered no 1. The scale of things alone. You mentioned a few really well themed areas in Phantasialand, Europapark has like 5-6 of those. In terms of shows, food, service they are still no1 I think. I gotta visit a lot of parks tho and the lack of a real thrill ride was bothering me too the last times I visited. Hopefully Voltron will be good. I heard it will cap out at 100 feet tho so maybe not something like Dc rivals but more like.. Lost Gravity? Would still be decent to be honest but yeah their rides are rather mild. Anyway any new theme land for europapark is like national holiday anyway so Im more than excited :D
@IroAppe2 жыл бұрын
@@slifer19964444 I'm also very excited for the new coaster, have seen some of the documentation of it, and they mention that the speculations did not yet mention all there is to it. The theming will be top-notch again, I'm sure. And Wodan is really good, so they have that, I gotta say. I was just a bit anxious, since Blue Fire was also advertised as a thrill ride, but after riding it 5 times, it really didn't give me so much anymore, I like Wodan, Eurosat (the coaster, not the theme) or Euro Mir more. But since Blue Fire, Mack Rides have built so many coasters, so that's something to look forward to. And the shows! Yes, they have world-class artists, I like the ice skating, magic/athletic show in Italy, and the horse stunts show in Spain in a knights setting with sword fights and a story in the arena. Because I've visited Europa Park so many times and know all their rides, that's actually something new to look forwards to every year. And it's generally a really good place to be in, so relaxing. It never feels hectic, or tight. So yes - they really have everything - except that one thing :D But I really gotta say - if you can visit Phantasialand again, Klugheim and Rookburgh are really both on Wodan/Voletarium/Arthur level - EP's best themed rides as far as I find it. So they got it too now.
