I've been taking PPIs for 20 years. At no point did my doctor tell me it was a temporary medication. I've developed a B12 deficiency, irregular heart beat and my kidney function has declined. All this can be attributed to my PPI medications but, still my doctor failed to consider these things. Once you turn 50 years of age, they seem to write us off! I'm glad to see these posts and unfortunately in Canada (the land of free health care) it's up to me to be the doctor and delve into my health concerns. Despite the fact I exercise 5 days a week, eat well , not over weight and take my vitamins; my health has been affected by the lack of care by my doctor.

DGL worked great for me! I was on high dose of PPIs for 5 years. I tapered off them by spreading doses out a bit more and more and used DGL in place of the doses I was dropping. It was pretty successful for me. In the past I had tried to come off and had rebound experiences and went back on. The slower taper and DGL and avoiding extremely acidic foods for awhile was what worked for me. Also make sure not constipated as that made it worse. Good luck to everyone trying to come off them. Be patient. You’ll get it eventually. :)

I've been taking PPIs for 16years. None of the many doctors I saw told me it's a temporary drug. I asked my current doctor that I would like to get of this at some point and he told me there's no side effect to those drugs, so just take them. It's frustrating. 18days ago I stopped cold turkey, and today I took a PPI as I was feeling so bad, bloating, indigestion, more acid reflux, I took tums at night as I couldn't take it anymore (the PPIs are really well manufactured (irony here..)). I know that was the rebound, I tried to push it but I felt like I was about to throw up all the time, so my plan of action is to wean off now instead of trying to be a superhero and stop it cold turkey. I'll definetely add DGL on my days off like you did to help me with that

That was your informative post, here are a few more tips on how to cure heartburn... 1) You must loosen clothing: Heartburn happens because the contents of your stomach are going back up into your oesophagus, where the stomach acids burn the tissues. You could be having an episode of heartburn because tight clothing is binding your stomach. If that's the case, the first thing to do is loosen your belt - or your dress, or apron strings, or whatever else is holding you too tight. 2) You need to stand up: Your posture might be contributing to heartburn, so if you're sitting or lying down, try standing up. If you're already standing, try standing up more straight. "When you're slumped down, your internal organs are compressed," says Betsy Polatin. She's a movement specialist who works with performers. "A simple and effective solution may be to lengthen and widen your torso and spine, as your head gently moves toward the ceiling." 3) Elevate Waist: If you're lying down and can't get up, or if you're caring for someone who is confined to bed and is experiencing heartburn, try raising the upper body. According to the Mayo Clinic, lifting the head isn't enough, so don't add a pillow. The goal is elevation from the waist up. An adjustable bed that can be raised to a suitable angle can provide relief. If your bed doesn't do that, you can increase the angle by using a wedge pillow. 4) Mix Baking Soda With Water: You might have a heartburn remedy right in your kitchen. Baking soda will calm some heartburn. It works by neutralizing the stomach acid, this happens because baking soda is alkaline. Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink slowly (drink everything slowly when you have heartburn). 5) It would help to chew gum: Chewing gum could help neutralize acid, too. Dr. Atif Iqbal, medical director of the Memorial Care Digestive Care Centre at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Centre in Fountain Valley, California, recommends it. "Gum increases saliva," says Dr. Iqbal. "Any acid that has built up in the gut is diluted and washed away or cleared out more quickly." (I discovered these and the reasons they work from Amirykal Heartburn Remedies website )

For those debating a Keto diet, I can vouch for the effectiveness of living a Ketogenic lifestyle, especially when combined with intermittent fasting. I was diagnosed with reflux and gastritis, so was on Lansoprazole for more than one year. However, I start Keto with fasting and after 6 months, my symptoms had fallen by 50%. Another 4 months and my symptoms we're probably 90% better. During the process, I lost 103 pounds and knowing what I now know, I will remain on Keto for the health benefits. I kept a journal of my entire journey and I've decided to write a book about it.

@@mininahid3300 Keto is often mistaken as a weight loss diet. It's actually the correct human way of eating. Weight loss is just one of the many health benefits that become apparent. I would suggest that your body weight would settle at it's correct point, which could mean little or no weight loss.

I would be careful with keto long term. Increased fat intake long term is bound to increase stomach acid to breakdown fat, which over time, may lead to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

@@Him__Downstairs I've heard of this condition, but I've not heard about any links with Keto. I would be interested to know of any science that confirms such a link. One thing for certain is that on the rare occasion that I eat higher carbs, I begin to put the pounds back on - which I suspect is my body retaining water. Ultimately, I see my current diet as a perfectly correct human diet. I've eliminated all unhealthy carbs and replaced them with more healthy alternatives, such as green veg, flours, nutritional yeast and ground flax seed. I feel healthier than ever and I'm bound to carry on for the foreseeable.

After 8 weeks I switched back to nexium and placed myself at lower level to 10 mg instead of 40 mg and I have same issues of gerd , acid , and flooding of fluid from stomach to mouth. I feel horrible. Even sip water and comes up. Going on over 2 months and no relief yet. I’ve changed my meals to broths and no fruit as causes more acid burning in my throat. @Amantiu5 Жыл бұрын
@Rachel Thomson yes, I did get off them. It was the best decision I ever made. The breathing troubles that you’re having is shortness of breath you’re probably sitting up experiencing that you can’t breathe at night that’s her heart telling you to get the fuck off the drugs. You may also find yourself a little bit more bloated? That’s why it’s the drugs to be honest I had a doctor put me on them didn’t tell me that long-term use really screwed up your body and then super tired without even telling me to stop them, so I was on them for two years, and it ruined my body. I stopped them on my own because I was thinking what the hell is going on I’m waking up every night shortness of breath freaking out so I stopped taking the pills and lo and behold after about a month my reflux went away. The problem with these pills is that it takes away all the acid in your stomach and that’s terrible because you’re also probably experiencing bad digestion? And if you’re not, and if you keep taking these pills, it will ruin your digestive process you won’t be able to digest anything I would stop taking these pills. The thing is is that when you stop, the reflux comes back full force, but you gotta deal with it and it takes about three weeks to a month to be back to normal get off these pills.

@Amantiu5 Жыл бұрын
My symptoms were the exact same. I had shortness of breath trouble sleeping. I was bloated. all the time and I can’t digest properly any more the more you take these pills the less acid do you have in your stomach and if you don’t have any acid in your stomach, the human body is supposed to have acid they’re not supposed to have none these pills are damaging

Calogero Fiore please see my comment about the antioxidant water, below. Also, my husband had a really, really bad hernia (though it was umbilical not hiatial) but he found a doctor who did an incredible job repairing it without mesh, if you ever need his contact info just contact me through my blog and I am happy to share it with you. Trust me, you CAN get off PPIs... if my husband could, I think anyone could.

Healing Liver Cirrhosis I did check your blog, It says something about anti oxidant water machine, which machine does he use, what make is it and what is the price? Thanks. As for the Hiatus Hernia I want to reduce weight and see if I can fix it that way. Was thinking about the water we drink, I have bottled some rainwater and its very pure like 3ppm, whereas evian comes to about 260ppm.

@ithacacomments48113 жыл бұрын
@@waffledninja6278 I would finish the 14 days. But, research what you need to change in your diet that might be causing your stomach issues. Dairy? Gluten? You may need to get tested for food allergies. Alcohol? Too much sugar? Are your Vitamin D levels low? Do you eat late at night and go to bed on a full stomach? Have you tried raising the head of your bed 8 inches to prevent GERD while you sleep? Do you have a hiatal hernia? Dr. Berg has many KZbin videos that can educate and help you explore other options than PPIs. He helped me understand my stomach issues.
