I recently sold my 12900k to my friend who wanted me to build him a cheap computer from some spare and new parts, ended up getting a 14700k for my other computer. I like how my older motherboard handled these with just a simple bios update.
If you are choosing between the 14700 and 14700k get the 14700k as it is a better quality bin and not much more expensive! If you are building a new computer for gaming then maybe check out some Gamers Nexus reviews on KZbin and consider an AMD. Lastly, if you are thinking of upgrading to the 14700k from something like the 12900k then maybe don't, it's more or less the same thing, a bit more performance here for production! For me it worked out in a roundabout way and I'm very happy with it.
