I have (and use) an old laptop with a second gen i3. Never really gets to stretch its tiny legs due to either thermal constraints or the graphics of the machine holding it back. For those of you wondering, it was cleaned roughly 6 months ago. And I got it to throttle playing minecraft, right after I cleaned it.
@TheHunt890
@TheHunt890 Жыл бұрын
The latest version of Minecraft is a very memory and CPU intensive game, especially Java edition, the more they add the less optimized it is. If you can, I would recommend trying Minecraft for Windows 10 which I have noticed to run way better on older hardware if you manage to optimize Windows 10 enough. It may not fix your thermal problems though, I'm assuming when you cleaned it you also replaced the thermal paste as well, but even then that only gets you so far.

Any Sandy Bridge video is a good video. I pulled an i3-2120 out of a Dell Inspiron 620 and replaced it with a Xeon E3-1245. Kinda sad to see the Sandy Bridge platform succumb to obsolescence because it was such a great platform for so many years. The old 2600k can now be found for $30 on ebay, and the i7-2600 for about $25, which are still serviceable. I've upgraded a few Dell Inspiron and Optiplex systems with a Sandy Bridge CPU, and Dell never wrote a BIOS update that makes Ivy Bridge compatible with these Sandy Bridge systems.

Then I quited gaming and barely touched my PC until last year. On april I bought a new gaming PC and today, actually right now I just finished cleaning up my old i3 sandy bridge to give it to my parents as they not gonna need a master race, lmao. @angrysocialjusticewarrior

Sometimes the hardware that is currently available is too weak to fully allow the user to experience the game in the way the developers ambitioned. So sometimes the dev's create a game where modern hardware can only play at the minimum specs with the hope that future hardware will be able to play the game the way it was actually meant to be played. An example of this is trying to make a game with epic medieval battles where each army is fielding hundreds of troops at its rival. Such a project would leave the game essentially unplayable on an old dual core i3, and barely playable on a quadcore i5 and i7. But then a few years later, cpu's became much more powerful and each cpu line suddenly had more cores and threads (i3 became 4 cores 8 threads, i5 became 6 cores 12 threads, i7 became 8 cores 16 threads). These new cpu's would then allow the project to finally be played the way it was meant to be played (hundreds of warriors fighting on the battlefield at a smooth 60fps+ with no stuttering).

I am currently using this same i3-2120 and I just saw your video get uploaded, so I came to watch it as I wanted to know which games can run 'smoothly' with this processor. Also I am using a Geforce 210 GPU but I want to find out how to enable/disable the iGPU (Intel HD 2000) as pairing these two gives very bad frames in like CS:GO; it doesn't even stay consistent on 30fps and stutters like hell. If you're gonna test low end cpu's, I would recommend using Sodium in Minecraft since it reduces the cpu overhead by a lot and puts more work onto the GPU.
@TheHunt890
@TheHunt890 Жыл бұрын
I think the point of the video is to show what these processors and GPUs can do without any modifications to modern games. People looking for a nice low budget PC may not be looking for a processor that requires them to do more work in order to use it. What your looking for is an entirely different genre of video entirely, Like "How to use i3-2100 in 2022" not "i3-2100 11 years later"
@cssplayer222

@@TheHunt890 Understandable. But I do actually hope he starts using Sodium mod if he ever started to test any low-end CPU's on Minecraft to let people know such mod exist to improve performance.

I don't know if its possible anymore, but you should try getting a Geforce 256 and testing that. I'm curious how the first ever GPU will perform

I just got this cpu for 2$. Pair it with a h61 itx mainboard I bought online for 15$ to make a mini media PC. It still pretty capable for basic task like browsing the web, watching youtube and movies.

I'm still rocking on my i3-2120 w/ its iGPU, 8 GB DDR3, 120 GB SSD on a Colorful H61 mini ITX mobo as my daily use computer. No games on this one though. I don't feel upgrading the unit as it's way2x more than enough for my current application. Got a Ryzen 5 3600x, 32 GB DDR4, 2 TB SSD (2 x 1 TB) and RX 5700XT (8GB) on an Asrock Fatal1ty B450 Gaming K4 mobo on my gaming PC and i don't feel upgrading this also for now.

when i was a teenager i used to play gta 5 on a 4th gen i3 with hd4400 graphics. had to play at 800x600 and would still be lucky to hit 30.

Is amazing how much of an improvement those sockets get from an i5 and an i7 instead of a i3. A i5 3570 would rush all those games at 60 fps easily! , investing in a higher tier cpu back in the day was a real deal, nowdays you are fine with an i3 12th

Certainly not 60FPS "easily". I can't get a solid 60 FPS in cyberpunk and other recent AAA games with an i7 4770K (4.4Ghz).
