I have (and use) an old laptop with a second gen i3. Never really gets to stretch its tiny legs due to either thermal constraints or the graphics of the machine holding it back. For those of you wondering, it was cleaned roughly 6 months ago. And I got it to throttle playing minecraft, right after I cleaned it.
@TheHunt8902 жыл бұрын
The latest version of Minecraft is a very memory and CPU intensive game, especially Java edition, the more they add the less optimized it is. If you can, I would recommend trying Minecraft for Windows 10 which I have noticed to run way better on older hardware if you manage to optimize Windows 10 enough. It may not fix your thermal problems though, I'm assuming when you cleaned it you also replaced the thermal paste as well, but even then that only gets you so far.

I used to run an i3 2320m in my old Hp Probook 4430s. Bought it new in 2011 along with 4gb ram and gamed with it until 2016, when I swapped it to an i5 2540m and 8gb ram, and continued to game on it until the HDD got too slow to be practical (around 2021), shelved it for a couple years, then refurbished it in 2023 with an i7 2630qm, 16gb ram, a 256gb SSD, and swapped out the optical drive for a 750gb HDD for mass storage. Still using it to this day, and I'll likely bypass the Win11 requirements and keep it in service when Win10 goes under just to see how long she can go for. She still runs light games like Freelancer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Sid Meier's Pirates, S.M Civilization, and Battlefield II, as well as a couple of locally stored Flash games (Strike Force Heroes namely)

I actually just tested Half-life 1 on an i3-2100 with integrated graphics and it would run 200-300 fps with the framerate unlocked, but as soon as I turned on my flashlight it dropped to 15-30 fps mind you I was playing in 640x480. Somehow playing Minecraft or doing any type of gaming on integrated graphics this old doesn't sound viable, especially when my test was on a game from 1998. I then installed a GT 710 and the issue went away so there you go.

If you're gonna test low end cpu's, I would recommend using Sodium in Minecraft since it reduces the cpu overhead by a lot and puts more work onto the GPU.
@TheHunt8902 жыл бұрын
I think the point of the video is to show what these processors and GPUs can do without any modifications to modern games. People looking for a nice low budget PC may not be looking for a processor that requires them to do more work in order to use it. What your looking for is an entirely different genre of video entirely, Like "How to use i3-2100 in 2022" not "i3-2100 11 years later"

Any Sandy Bridge video is a good video. I pulled an i3-2120 out of a Dell Inspiron 620 and replaced it with a Xeon E3-1245. Kinda sad to see the Sandy Bridge platform succumb to obsolescence because it was such a great platform for so many years. The old 2600k can now be found for $30 on ebay, and the i7-2600 for about $25, which are still serviceable. I've upgraded a few Dell Inspiron and Optiplex systems with a Sandy Bridge CPU, and Dell never wrote a BIOS update that makes Ivy Bridge compatible with these Sandy Bridge systems.

Sometimes the hardware that is currently available is too weak to fully allow the user to experience the game in the way the developers ambitioned. So sometimes the dev's create a game where modern hardware can only play at the minimum specs with the hope that future hardware will be able to play the game the way it was actually meant to be played. An example of this is trying to make a game with epic medieval battles where each army is fielding hundreds of troops at its rival. Such a project would leave the game essentially unplayable on an old dual core i3, and barely playable on a quadcore i5 and i7. But then a few years later, cpu's became much more powerful and each cpu line suddenly had more cores and threads (i3 became 4 cores 8 threads, i5 became 6 cores 12 threads, i7 became 8 cores 16 threads). These new cpu's would then allow the project to finally be played the way it was meant to be played (hundreds of warriors fighting on the battlefield at a smooth 60fps+ with no stuttering).

If you have i3 2nd gen or 3rd gen, get the i5. These run much better in semi modern games. The prices for the i5s are quite low. Eg here in Australia the i3-2100 is around $10 AUD and the i5 is around $20 AUD (base models). The jump from 2C/4T might not sound much but the 4C/4T are a definitely big step up. If you have a Z board and can find a i5-2500K or i5-3570K that can do 4.2-4.3Ghz with no issues then you will be totally ok playing previous get A+ titles at lower resolutions (maybe not Cyberpunk).. Maybe do a vid and how a base i5 would do. something like i5-2400 or i5-2500 non K. Also an interesting vid would be to play these games on something from the 4th gen.. like a i3-4160. I have not tested that setup but it might be good for a video.

I got an i5 760 with an rx580..... I would love to see you do some tests in them. I currently play cyberpunk, red dead 2 and other games... actually enjoying it with no stutters. I enjoy your tests so would like to see you test it.

I still use this in my HTPC with a HD 7770 1gb... Still going strong. Well it was never strong, but it works.

I actually still use this cpu, I didn't expect it to do pretty well in this video. I'm guessing the only reason my pc is slow is my geforce 210 and 4 gigs of ram.
@ballingood Жыл бұрын
Yeah your cpu is the strongest in your build so you could get a gtx 750 and 8gb ram then your pc would be pretty good

I was using a sandy bridge i3 2350M from 2014-2021 it was in an Asus laptop ! That thing was a beast i was playing old games the likes of MS Flight simulator X, CS Source, Pes 2012 and some old battlefield titles. Also i was running Adobe premiere 2017/Lightroom and Photoshop. I gave up the laptop and upgraded to an Asus Ryzen 4500u in 2021 because as it was aging the screen bleeding got worse and some keys in the keyboard started to fail. But the internals just worked fine !

I5 7400 also runs similar like this. Every game at around 45-60fps. It is also 3.3ghz 4c4t cpu. I paired i5 7400 with rx6800. Thinking to buy new amd cpu. Looks like amd is not going to launch new cpu any time soon.

My encoding PC is rocking an i7 3770. Every time I see it I get kind of sad that I don't have the time or ideas to make any videos anymore. It hasn't seen use in a while.

Zwormz, I know you are not gonna answer thid comment, but my amd ryzen 5 5600g + rtx 3060 still stutters in minecraft just like THIS. How? Well, you are a very good youtuber and I have seen all of your epic videos.

Maybe test out the cpu with a GeForce 7025/NForce 630A...I've never seen a GPU slower than that ..even g100 would've been a beast in front of it...and i used that pc for like 7 years 2007-2014

I had an i3 3220 I upgraded to the i5 3470 and finally to the i7 3770 paired with a gtx 1060 6gb and the difference in performance and stability is absurd, who is still on the lga 1155 platform i highly recommend upgrading to i7 3770 or Xeon® E3-1270 v2 both are the same just different prices.

The CPU was compared to the FX 8350 when new by reviewers and price wise. the FX 8350 is still very useable and this is dead in the water

My second system which I use all the time is a G4600 Kaby Lake Pentium, paired with an RX 580. Will be upgrading when AM5 AMD comes out, hopefully DDR5 will come down in price by then.

It's relative that you can recommend it or not, if you have no money like a lot of eastern european people, than it will do the job for you, you can still play recentish titles, especially story games. It's good for those who has about 100usd for a PC and want to play games even if they are laggy af. . I've been there, i know i was happy that my PC could run a game i didn't care how much fps i get if it ran on my pc. I played GTA 5 on a 512mb 8800 GT not gtx! XD
