@@bengrogan9710 I wouldn't bother. If you want to upgrade because you are experiencing micro stutter or lag in fps or in games which are MMOs like World of Warcraft it is because they use multiple threads. If you can save some more $$$ by the end of the summer when human malware stops disrupting parts get an i5 or at least a 3600x or 4600 which is right around the corner. Better yet a 3700x. The reason being is XBoxOne (next gen) will include 8 cores 16 threaded Ryzen CPU and all your games will use 8 to 16 threads. That 3300x will be obsolete FAST for these ported games. THe only reason games don't all perform like crap is Intel forced 4 core CPUs so long that porting xbox games requires developers to recode with less threads. Now? Once gamers who are allergic to AMD as eww (many exist due to their past products) and switch they are more than likely to stay loyal to that brand. Intel is cutting the nose to spite the face as they want to keep Intel gamers who don't go to Gamers Nexus to be fanboys for life and that changes when you go Ryzen. Intel should at least make an i3K unlocked cache for budget gamers at this price and cut the cost of this CPU to $99 or something.

To differentiate it from the Core i3-10300. Market segmentation works. The Core i3-10100 is good value because of the inclusion of a GPU, the Core i3-10300 is a meaningful upgrade. Hi! I bought an intel 10100 for a new rig for my parents. I needed the iGPU as they don't need a dedicated graphics card. They turn over a home PC about every 8 years so I felt like the 4 core, 8 threads was worth splurging for over an Athlon 3000g or other budget CPU. Lastly, they didn't want to migrate their existing home PC to a new hard disk, so grabbing a 16GB Intel optane drive for $20 and keeping the existing HDD was the easiest/cheapest solution to bring SSD level performance to their windows OS and frequent applications. I got the processor for $122 on Amazon when it launched and a B460 board for $80. Even though many reviewers have talked about there not being a place for the 10100, for me I think it was perfect. 3100 was a tough contender if I could have got it at $99, but they weren't available.

@GamersNexus -- I ended up getting this part this year because of the GPU shortages. I have a family member that wants to edit pictures and some go pro footage on a budget. They also wanted a high resolution monitor to "see all the details" and have good color accuracy. This use case was almost... Monitor first and foremost... This CPU in a Mini-ATX board will make a great starter PC for them. Ended up spending just over 1000 USD for the whole system. Monitor of choice was the AOC CQ27G2 27" 2K monitor, and the onboard graphics will cover the pixels I they need. Also, the very favorable color accuracy showing in its rtings.com review was a great selling point. They will have 1TB of SSD, and 2TB on a HDD. A decent B460 board to get the started. And a decent cooler to one day make the leap to a better chip if desired. All said and done, they will have a great starter rig in a compact chassis, and room to get an actual Graphics card if they need it. That's why I chose the 10100.... I also could not find a AMD 3200G anywhere!

So basically the conclusion of your test is pretty consistent with what I expected this CPU to be good for - office PCs with no dGPU. Still rather expensive for that use, considering a dual-core would mostly do the trick, but at least it's cheaper than Ryzen 5 3400G / 2400G and probably leads in the CPU performance.
@gianluke4 жыл бұрын
The conclusions in these reviews are completely wrong after some weeks their publication because of price changes. For example, the price of the 3300X increased to a point where it is a quite bad deal. In Italy, it costs 10€ less than the 3600, would you buy it? The i3 10100 costs ~150€ which is, in my opinion, a quite good deal, compared for example to the 3400G (~150€). For less than the price of a 3600, you can get an i5 10400F. I don't see much convenience in buying AMD anymore. Many of the budget-wise advantages AMD had in the past have gone. For example, AMD motherboard are now as expensive as Intel's ones, if not more. As of July, B550s have ridiculous (expected) prices for being budget boards (above 120€). B450s prices (for ATX) are also all above 100€; they were around ~80-90€ some months ago.
@makoto43414 жыл бұрын
I have to agree, YMMV depending on where you are (i'm in south america), but i'm building a new pc and after reserving a b550m board (asus tuf wifi) i ended up requesting an exchange for a z490 (msi gaming edge wifi). Turns out that when i did the full math i could get an i5 10400f with the z490 mobo and 8gb ram for the price of a r5 3600 and b550m mobo. The motherboards where about the same, but the cpu was a lot cheaper and i was definitely surprised, always assumed it was cheaper to build an AMD rig.

As a guy currently looking into getting the 9100F, there is a potentially ultra-specific use case I can think of: Low wattage single threaded performance. Right now I have the very odd problem of having a power limit from what I can take from the wall so I only have about 250 watts MAX I can get with all my parts. Moreover, I run PCSX2 emulation a lot which is almost entirely bound by your single threaded performance numbers. Without buying an entirely new system, the x100 parts from intel fill an interesting gap where I can use some of my old parts and still have an upgrade compared to my old cpu. In almost any other use case (gaming, streaming, video editing, rendering, etc) the intel pales in comparison to its competitors except specifically in PCSX2 where single threaded performance is more or less the only way you can get better frames. Given my cpu power budget, the only other processors out there that can come close are pentiums, MAYBE the 3100, and an athlon. In that specific case the 9100, and likely the 10100, absolutely blows those other ones out of the water even if it's a pretty hollow victory given the price.

I subscribe to this channel, however only occasionally watch the videos. Every one I have watched though, including this one are very informative and go deep into detail that I appreciate even if I seldom grasp every detail being thrown at me. Reason I am commenting is that this video and the other one I watched regarding the Ryzen 3 1200AF both plugged the RTX 2060 KO by EVGA. A couple months back I bought the RTX 2060 KO Ultra for my son and he is pleased with the card. Of course, to him, his assessment is that it's "better". So go figure......... Anyway, I wanted to say that while I am pleased with the 2060KO Ultra, I am not pleased that EVGA did not honor the $20 MIR Visa card offer on it. When I purchased the card, I dutifully sent in all the paperwork and then a couple weeks later got a post card indicating that my submission was inaccurate and I did not qualify for the rebate. To my shame, I tore up the post card and did not follow up. That is my bad and I figured the effort to fight for a $20 MIR Visa was not worth the stress. However, seeing this card plugged twice in 2 Gamers Nexus viewings basically opened an "old wound" if you will. So I figured I would just comment on my disappointment on not receiving my rebate. Now obviously this did not destroy my world, nor does it even put my off buying anything from EVGA in the future. I just know I will not consider a rebate offer as something they will honor or something I should consider as a benefit to my purchase. Other than the rejection mailer from EVGA, I still have copies of all my paperwork and even a scanned image of the UPC that EVGA claims was erroneous. Anyway, this video was excellent. Thanks to anyone who took the time to read my diatribe.

Awesome review, great to see actual numbers and performance comparisons for a part that, on paper, looks to be basically equivalent to AMD's offerings but in reality it's not. If the conclusion is that the i3-10100 only makes sense if you want a somewhat-cheap CPU with integrated graphics, I'd be curious to see how it stacks up with a Ryzen 5 3400G. I suspect the i3 is probably faster in terms of CPU-only performance, but for gaming using the iGPU, the 3400G is probably going to be much better. And let's not even think about Ryzen 4000 Desktop APUs yet, because those are still quite some time away.

Hey. So I'm unfortunately one of the use cases that need to buy intel over amd for an igpu. When building streaming PCs for others, my friends wanted their system in very small form factor with no space for a pcie/dgpu. Intel quicksync is enough to stream 1080p60 and 4k through a usb 3.0 capture card and we bought a 9600k over the 2700 for that reason. The 9600k (although unfortunate not having threads) and at $150 was what fit the niche. AMD's APU unfortunately did not have enough power at 4c/8t (3400g) and leaves the user with no room for further upgrades if doing heavier streams. E.g. we can upgrade to a 9700/9900k down the line.

One thing I found kind of interesting about the 10100 is due to its comparability with a i7 7700, people that are running CPU intensive systems like home built security camera computers, the super cheap 10100 allows the building of a "recommended spec" 10-30 camera computer for almost half the cost when compared to 2-3 years ago. Back when the 7700 was current, you had to run around a $700-900 CPU/ mobo/ memory combo. With the 10100, b450, and 16gb ram it's only like $300 to run programs like blue iris. The 10100 also does better than the new ryzen 3100/3300 due to them not having intel quick sink.
