I switched to a 13700K from a 3770 and it's an amazing leap... Most games gained 80-100 fps with the same GPU. and for what it's worth, it doesn't use that much power most of the time, only when you're maxing out all the cores- which doesn't really happen. Most of the time it uses a lot less power than my 3770 did. When idling it goes actually very low.

I have done some testing with stellaris in the past and I saw good scaling between Ryzen 5000 and 5000X3D especially late game. The X3D parts seemed to fly. I will make a 3.9.3 late game and test the 5600X, 5800X3D and 7800X3D if I see similar results as back in then I will send the same save to Steve. The issue is that you need to test multiple runs of 5/10 min and every run will be slightly different because of events and battles that go different and change the game. But overall I got consistent higher scores on the 7800X3D so the data was useful. (did 4 runs of 10 min looked at the start and end year to see how many years it could calculate in that time instead of benchmarking the time needed for a month or year.) Calculations are different for monthly ticks year changes have other calculations. And you need longer testing for battles to take place. (happens a lot during normal games and it slows down the overall game on slow CPU's. Pop calculations also get out of hand in big games but they did improve that a lot in later versions of the game.

And no, a 7600 is way out of the league. its way lower in all tests. you would have done better to buy a 5800x3d instead and upgrade to next gen/the gen after next gen, just skipping ryzen 7000 and intel 12th, 13th, 14th gen completely.

For Stellaris, If you guys really wanna push the CPUs you could try extending the galaxy sizes past the base game limits, this is usually done with a mod and it puts a lot of strain on the game engine, however, it does also allow high L3 cache CPUs to really push forward. For example on a 2500-star galaxy with all DLCs and no other mods apart from the more galaxy sizes, my 5800X3D performs ~30% better than my 5900X and ~35% better than my 5600X. I'm also assuming you guys have experimented with the methodology of the test already, but you could also include a "Days simulated in X minutes from the game start or from a certain save game" for a different perspective on the differences in performance. I will admit I am not knowledgeable on how you guys set up your methodology for testing Stellaris, but I do think there is promise in testing certain Paradox games, especially for high L3 cache CPUs (like Wendell has showcased before). Hope you all have a good day :D

11th gen was pretty good on Laptops to be honest. The I-7 11800H holds up really well. I Feel like an H variant the 14th gen intel CPU could also be worth it. Especially if it was put in sub 1200 dollar gaming laptops with the 8gb 4060 laptop GPU. That would really play into the strength of 14th gen. Which is the power to get the same performance with slightly less power draw. If you combine that with the 4060, then you'd have an 1080p gaming laptop with lower power draw than other laptops in its class. This would be particularly useful for an smaller gaming laptop with an 13.3 inch screen. For even greater power savings, you could outfit it with an OLED screen. Since entry level gaming laptops aren't expected to last forever. So screen burn in would be slightly less of a concern. I think that an mobile 14th gen chip would really hit its stride in an Ultra book style light and thin gaming laptop. Especially when paired with the efficient 4060 mobile chip. Sell it with 1 tb of memory and 16 gb of DDR5 Ram, and you'll make a killing.

I JUST TYPED IN A SCENARIO INTO CHAT GPT TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR TYPCIAL ELECTRIC BILL 14700K VS 5800X3D. HERES THE QUESTION I ASKED if i play pc video games with a 14700k intel vs a ryzen 5800x3d cpu for example 5 times a weeks at 4 hours daily for one whole year, how much more would my eletricity bill be in a years time? HERES THE ANSWER THAT WAS GIVEN. To estimate how much more your electricity bill would be if you game using the Intel Core i7-14700K vs the Ryzen 5800X3D, we need to account for the power consumption differences and your gaming hours over a year. Here’s a breakdown of the calculation process: 1. Determine Power Consumption: Intel i7-14700K has a TDP of 253W at peak load. Ryzen 5800X3D has a TDP of 105W at peak load. These values represent the maximum power consumption during heavy usage, but actual gaming power consumption can vary. 2. Convert Hours to Total Gaming Time: 5 times a week at 4 hours daily = 20 hours/week. There are 52 weeks in a year, so: 20 hours/week × 52 weeks = 1,040 hours/year of gaming. 3. Calculate Energy Usage: Energy usage (in kilowatt-hours, kWh) is given by: Power (kW) × Time (hours) Power (kW)×Time (hours) For the Intel i7-14700K: 253 W 1000 × 1 , 040 hours = 263.12 kWh 1000 253 W ×1,040 hours=263.12 kWh For the Ryzen 5800X3D: 105 W 1000 × 1 , 040 hours = 109.2 kWh 1000 105 W ×1,040 hours=109.2 kWh 4. Estimate Cost of Electricity: The average electricity cost in the US is around $0.15 per kWh, but this varies by location. 5. Calculate Yearly Cost: Intel i7-14700K: 263.12 kWh × 0.15 = 39.47 USD 263.12 kWh×0.15=39.47 USD Ryzen 5800X3D: 109.2 kWh × 0.15 = 16.38 USD 109.2 kWh×0.15=16.38 USD 6. Difference in Annual Cost: The difference in yearly electricity cost would be: 39.47 USD − 16.38 USD = 23.09 USD 39.47 USD−16.38 USD=23.09 USD Conclusion: If you game for 4 hours daily, 5 days a week for a year, using the Intel i7-14700K would cost approximately $23 more in electricity compared to the Ryzen 5800X3D. This is based on the average electricity cost and assumes both CPUs run at peak load while gaming. NOW TO ANYONE READING THIS REMEMBER WE'RE GAMING FOR PERFORMANCE, ENTERTAINMENT, AND FUN. SO AT THE END OF THE DAY AS LONG AS I BUILD A SYSTEM THAT CAN HANDLE THE POWER. WHY THE HELL WOULD I CARE ABOUT PAYING AND EXTRA $50-100 BUCKS A YEAR FOR BETTER PREFORMANCE??????????

@@squirrel6687 AMD has actually been doing pretty well CPU-wise for productivity especially when you look at tests from people like Puget Systems. Their GPUs are a genuine trouble from a performance standpoint though

Was holding out upgrading my 9700K for this release. Hoping that the rumored 15% improvement would be true and that DLVR would bring some meaningful power efficiency (is it even enabled on these chips?). But yeah... 7800X3D it is then.
@chris6198611 ай бұрын
Time for me to upgrade, too. The 10700K has been fine, but it's getting a little long in the tooth. Bought it during the GPU shortage in a pre-built and may repurpose it into a home server. (Also unknowingly got the Gigabyte explodey PSU that died with that pre-built. Thanks Newegg) AMD CPUs are just killing it, so there's really no reason to choose Intel. On top of that, the power consumption is ridiculous. Just wish their GPUs were better. I do more than game though, and want as many fast cores as possible, so that 7950 is looking pretty good. I just know AMD is looking to release the 8000 series in 2024 with an actual updated architecture. Think I'll be able to hold off until then.

@@chris61986went from a 9700k to a 7800X3D. It’s been fantastic so far, handles any game I throw at it like it’s nothing.
@saundby11 ай бұрын
@@chris61986 I paid the premium for the 7950X3D and I'm really happy with it for CAD/CAM and 3D work. In games, it plays so well on everything that I don't notice the difference. I mainly went with the X3D to allow for air cooling and keep the box size down (and get a box that has drive bays for data backups.) I was already pushing my price limits so I didn't want to add the cost of an AIO. I can't help but wonder how well a 7800X3D would have worked by comparison, and what else the other $300 might have gone into, though. I got the AMD RX7900XTX GPU, and sometimes I feel like maybe I should have gone NVidia. Then I look at the price differential. NVidia's just way too expensive. If I did a do-over with 7800X3D+4080, I don't think I'd be getting the nice CAM performance I'm getting now, though. It's gone from a chore and an interruption to my workflow to being invisible, like it should be.

yeah.... its bs they call it a new generation.... buuuut.... if you had a 12700 you do get a bunch more of E cores that are helpful on rendering and stuff..... so from 2021 to late 2023 you could have an upgrade with same mobo right? ... very particular case thou

Some of those benchmarks make me very glad i just bought a 7600X for £245 in the Amazon sale the other day! The 14700k is £420 more atm and there's almost no way to justify that extra £200 for maybe 10% fps gains gaming

I bought the 13700KF a few months ago without knowing how good or bad the 14th gen will be. When I first heard the marketing from Intel I felt very stupid for buying so close before a new launch. But after this video my mind is at ease and I'm very happy with my purchase! Thank you Steve and team!

i just wanna know in what context is the 13700k not enough??? for gaming its way overkill especially if at 1440p or 4k, even a 13600k is enough for gaming if u need mores that the i7, why not just get a threadripper lol
@KoItai111 ай бұрын
well, the 14th gen comes at the same price, the i7 14700kf is 20% more powerful in multicore than the 13700kf(that doesn t really matter for gaming) so if u do other things than just gaming, ppl can get a 14700kf since it s just 20$ more than the 13700kf

@@KoItai1 You would think that Intel would rather spend the time refining their production process and slowly introduce improvements over a set period then launch a chip with all the improvements, what is 20USD??

AMD was really onto something with 3D-Vcache. I don't think even they anticipated the X3D chips staying high on the totem pole for this long.

And my i7-12700K is an anomaly. The perfomance per watt is the best that i ever watched or experienced from an i7 in a decade. It's aircooled with a Deepcool Assassin 3, stays extremely cool combined with a Corsair 5000D airflow.

This review should have been focused on production, not gaming, production is obviously the main focus of the 14700K with it's additional E-cores. I would have liked to see some code compilation benchmarks.

Pretty wild that AMD's chips are still not only cheaper, but also perform better in many workloads with about double the energy efficiency. There's lots of catching up to do for Intel with their next architechture.
