I once heard about Fr. John Hardon that while he was in the seminary, a professor called him an "intellectual bully". He took that to heart and looked for opportunities to practice humility thereafter. By the time he died, I believe that humility was his foremost virtue.

Thank you for sharing and teaching us, Father. Many of us are starving for truth and are spiritually and philosophically curious. In this quest, you can be vulnerable to pitfalls in following someone who is knowledgeable and faithful, but NOT filled with humility. Your team is spreading truth and opening my mind. I think you misread him, it may be his affect or demeanor. Jordan Peterson has an exceptionally sharp, confident mind, much needed to combat the overwhelming presence and influence of extreme liberalism. Meekness can equal weakness. He, as well as Ben Shapiro (mentioned in the reply by KK) are obviously intellectually gifted. I am pleased to have them weigh in on controversial issues. Each has effectively dismantled more leftist arguments than many moderate "conservatives." Neither is Catholic, but they are on the front lines, and I consider them to be on the side of the restoration of morality, common sense and decency. Ironically, some are critical of Fr. Ripperger, citing arrogance. Of course, I flatly disagree. The good Father is also exceptionally gifted. He is properly using his God given gifts in an age of darkness.

I’m not Catholic but I love how humility is preached so clearly and honestly within the Catholic church. Protestant sermons don’t seem to have clear detailed life directions given. Unlike Catholic teachings that cover every aspect of life, and offer answers without any form of denominational bias.

Most of what you said makes a lot of sense to me, although I do disagree with your opinion that lay people should not be allowed to comment on things related to the faith (obviously, since here I am commenting). I can understand and relate to the frustrations that you and other clergy may have to endure in dealing with an array of flawed thinking and expression from the laity, but as burdensome as that may be, we lay people also really need to start learning and thinking for ourselves - and expressing ourselves when it comes to our faith and other related matters, instead of just letting the clergy do all the hard work for us. In my opinion, this has been made crystal clear seeing that *_many_* within the clergy are living in grave sin and error, and /or are attempting to propagate that sin and error into our faith and culture. In addition, the process of defending the faith / correcting errors / etc. through such commentary forces us laity to continuously research, learn (deepening our faith), grow, teach, and evangelize - which is what helps tranform us into real disciples of Christ Jesus. I do, however, think that this should all be done in the love of Jesus and in meekness, respecting one another and seeking the Truth always. May God bless and keep you (and us all) always. How the situation in the Vatican came recently to my awareness, as well as, how bizzar the Novus Ordo is, I can't say; but it did. My immediate thought had been, "well, I'm not surprised considering the profound neglect by the Faithful of our Catholic Faith; myself included. I find myself very remorseful and falling to kneeling & bowing my head to the floor asking God's forgiveness & guidance for reparation so to restore what has been defiled within the Deposit of Faith. Indeed, we were given what we asked for: leniency in the doctrines of our Faith, in the very same doctrines given as the Deposit of our Faith by our Lord Jesus Christ.

I had same thought. Love Fr. R. But lots of very devout clergy that are saying there IS clear heresy w this pope, and w all popes since Vatican 2. There is no joy, delight or satisfaction in having to look at this . These seem to be different times. I think traditionalists got a bad rap in this video ( early part.) So much belittling and ridicule of traditionalists by more progressive Catholics including some clergy, and I remember well the 1970s. Overall I consider Fr R very much a traditionalist.

One of the most rampant faults in discourse today and the bandying about of opinion is that nobody seems to realize that they do not have first-hand information or enough complete information to come to their conclusions. Basing our understanding of any issue on today's media [even Catholic media] is utterly insufficient and misleading. People are so proud today they don't know what they don't know. This lack of humility is also directly related to the misunderstanding of obedience and authority. People today have stopped submitting to the higher authority, instead depending on their own. All of this chaos should be a demonstration to everyone of us of how crucial is obedience to authority, hierarchy, and structure. Oh also we think that if we don't like our particular 'authority' [bishops, bosses, husbands, our elders] and we think they are fools, that means we don't have to obey them. all of a sudden, conducting the Mass facing the back of the Celebrant makes a lot more sense to me. Maybe I don't need to know exactly what's going on, a general sense of the Holy might just be sufficient enough for certain occasions. I'll leave the heavier stuff for educated, when I go in the spiritual room and close the door I will still have the same relative challenge to sit with and honestly worship God as the more highly educated people most certainly do. Good description of what intellectual pride is all about Fr. Ripperger. I agree with how a lot of people were only embarrassing themselves while criticizing pope Francis during a major crisis that he alone should not have been expected to have control over during every single moment when it was happening. We are all only human and so we must remain detached somewhat from our own feelings always just in case. Except for one thing. What about the child in the story called the Emperor's New Clothes who was the only person there [other than the emperor] who had the courage to say something first? Didn't that take intellectual humility too while allowing the spirit to move him into voicing his opinion about what should have been obvious to everyone there in charge right from the start? The truth is that almost always when humanity comes up with more progress in science too most of the time lots of people already had intuition that something offered to us in grace was true sometimes for a long time while only a few are having enough courage to start bringing it to fruition with enough humility to wait on a team until it is developed well enough to be marketed when it will be useful enough for it not to be throwing everything else into imbalance. Too many people who graduate with a degree start using what they believe is an advance they thought of first that the world cannot live without which turns out to be a disaster for many. Like for example how lots of young people with only tonsillitis ended up with a permanent disability because of damage to their thyroid gland which happened when a doctor thought he was doing them a favor by zapping them with X-rays to make sure he got every last cell that might have been left behind of their tonsils that he had cut away. He did so without going through the usual clinical research trials required first.

All you’ve said is true, and why does all of that exist? Intellectual pride. I think that’s the point. We are being delivered to satan, hands down, even within the Vatican as it is well known (from the writings and interviews of other exorcists) that satanists have groomed and trafficked some to rise to positions within the Vatican on down. Unfortunately, that cannot be fought fist to fist. Why does the devil hate Mary? She has/had the embodiment of humility. You’re absolutely right in that we should speak up against, vote against,and write against all those things you mentioned. That’s not intellectual pride, though. Father does say we have to be ready to adhere to the truth even when it costs, so the things you mentioned are adhering to the truth...not intellectually being “right” for the sake of being right.

The issue of winning arguments is not trivial though. What kinds of ideas win arguments within a culture hints at the future trajectory of that culture. If the winning ideas are destructive, it is imperative that they are successfully countered by healthy and truthful ideas eventually. Failure to do this can only lead to a separation of the ruling intellectual class from what parts of the society are still vital and functioning, but lacking in cultural sophistication. It is the latter that gets marginalized and driven into a corner in this separation instead of the former, because the former holds all uncontested cultural and political power and is capable of inflicting any number of legal and social sanctions to enforce their dominance. Catholic christians in particular and people aligned with counter-revolutionary ideas and sanity in general need to understand this. As long as cultural power cannot be wrestled back from the hands of the current (left wing) cultural elite or if the elite cannot be converted, the prospects of christianity to be a major force in solving the problems of modernity are as slim as any. And if it is not going to be christianity that is the solution, the left has all kinds of horrible "solutions" in store to impose on their unwilling subjects. Catholicism cannot be alternative to them if it cannot stand in any meaningful way in opposition to them or even be (positively) distinguishable from them in observable reality. There can be more in the desire to win arguments than mere intellectual pride. The left may do it because of self-interest or pride, but the right needs to do it for the sake of preservation of sanity in western culture. It can hardly be doubted that this has to be done. Sanity in society, in any case, needs to prevail and it is not inevitable that this happens in this life.

To be blunt, I shouldn't have even been allowed to enter High School; I had that low of a grasp of the topics in school, and was that tied up in some metaphysical battles- that's the single biggest reason why I was (and am) so far behind in my education... but thank goodness that colleges do not discriminate about your past grades, if they did, they'd have barred me from ever attending, *ever*, due to having *failed* my SATs when I took them in my senior year of high school! That said, I'm darn glad that they don't consider one's SAT grades; but rather care if you're willing to work hard enough to do the schoolwork- it's your *attitude* about your obligations that matters, not your grades to enter college, nor your staying power... I'm a poor man, financially, you have no idea how fiscally poor I really am, nor is that any of your business, so I'll not bother you with that detail, and not that educated, but I rightly did earn an associates degree from my classes and then go on to attend a vocational school; and you know the single biggest thing I've ever ever learned? It's the value of character integrity towards success! Intellectual capacity doesn't really factor into colleges, oh, I'm a bright man, when it comes to information, and pretty wise about what to accept verses what to reject, particularly these days; but it doesn't matter where I stand regarding my *neighbors*, nay, their opinions do not matter, who's does? That'd be God and Him *alone* that matters in viewpoint! The problem with getting rid of intellectual pride is that we really *cannot* correctly assess where we stand in the terms of mental capacity and knowledge- that's the single biggest obstacle, nor can we grasp what's going on in our neighbors' interior lives, nor is it really any of our darn business what's going on in our neighbors' lives in any field whatsoever! Best odds to avert the comparison game- the trap of intellectual pride- is to remember, and to "fortify this data position" to prevent our loss of it, of the reality that literally every single man is his own interior universe, and we literally *cannot hope to touch oneanother's interior life*! Give up any hope of that accomplishment of the level of a deity and you're really safe from the greatest level of intellectual pride, but the rest has to be left to Christ's settlers to subjugate, as we can't hope to know where we stand... for crying out loud, we can't even with any degree of absolute certainty know the state of our own souls, ourselves, let alone anybody else's! That stuff's for God to know, and Him *alone*!

I agree with the part of the laity. A dangerous area are Prayer Groups. These individuals are forceful in pointing out how a person, for example with an illness, are NOT in union with God. Then when you start mentioning the saints for example St. Faustina, then turn away angry.

Reference "thinking for yourself", replace that concept with "critical thinking", what you're doing in that case is not an act of arrogance, but rather considering things inside the statements given and assessing the truth of the matter, based on truths already known to the person; that's a direct example of what St. Paul referred to in his letters where he said, and I paraphrase "... you folks know truth when you hear it, you know lies when you hear them, and you folks know when a speaker is decieving you, and to run from him..." (I know those aren't his words, the native language he was writing in I frankly don't know well, if at all. Certainly well enough to write what that saint wrote, but that's not important- what is is that he meant to reinforce in his flocks to judge if a speaker was lying to them or telling them the truth and not to take anything at all on blind faith! Same argument Christ Himself used when He sent the messages He did by first proving His divinity *in many ways- including miracles and statements that backed up the Decalogue, the basis of Jewish law*, then and only then did He move on and clarify better to the average man what He meant to teach them to do!) Thinking for oneself is a vital skill, and one in line with Christ's teachings in His Catholic Church, the one He founded; it does not now, nor ever did, contradict Church teaching, nor could it possibly contradict Church doctrine. What we have to do is to *verify* based on *reality* what we're being told, and if things do not make sense (for instance, and I quote the translation "Eat My body and drink My blood") Ie: canabalism, or so it *sounds*, we've got to *look deeper* and find out *what's really going on*. In that case, He meant to have us *digest* Himself, so as to infuse us with Him- and thus He employed our digestive tract to accomplish His miracles He knew we'd need for His designs for us to come to fruition.
