Great demo. Made me realize that I am criminally under-utilizing my Steppy. Which makes this the best kind of modular demo - the kind that inspires me to jam with what i already have rather than buy something new. But I guess that's only because I happen to have a Steppy... so... whatever, great walkthrough!

So happy you’ve found some inspiration as that is the reason I enjoy making these, not to convince people to spend more. If I could recommend a few basics I’d say to use a bit of swing, always save a pattern before you switch off, and learn to play loopy mode for rests and fills

Considering I do these in one take with just mist of it pre-planned in my head, that’s great feedback thanks. I try and explain from a most useful way I use things perspective, not just regurgitating the manual.

@@modularinspiration For myself, I would find music composition on the modular, very interesting . Freestyle or song development. It looks like you have some of those elements on your channel and I haven’t gone through all your videos yet. There’s lots here for me to review.

I have the 1U and the 3U. I'm a little annoyed that they skipped the most used clock divider division of 24. I often use my Steppy for clock divider duty. If I recall it's 2,4,8,16,32,64 so 24 isn't included. You can muck with combos but I'd much rather have 24 than 64.

The eight buttons give you 1,2,3,4,8,16,32,64. I like 2 and 4 and occasionally use 3 for something a bit weird. What do you like to use 24 for?

Hey Mark, how do you set up the reset signal on the Pam? I sometimes hear double hits from the first note on Steppy. I suspect it might be the signal width of the Pam, but I haven't figured out how.

Scroll through the multipliers on your chosen channel, and once you get past the numbers you will see, first a gate, then a rising edge. THAT’S your reset- it sends a trigger when Pam’s is (re)started. Baffled me for a while too…

@@modularinspiration Yes, I have one for a while, but I never use steppy, 6equencer has song mode, various types of ratchet ,pattern can chain in song mode, probability control of steps and more, but for the interface, 6equencer is more harder in live, cause the button is so small. love your video, the clep diaz tutorial give me a lots of help

Wow song mode in such a small sequencer is good to have. I don’t honestly miss it here though as I prefer to use it for simple 16 note progressions and then play it in loopy mode. That looks a nice alternating compact sequencer though too

I like Steppy and use it quite a lot. However, for anything other than basic 16-step patterns on up to four channels I have to refer to the manual, EVERY TIME. Perhaps it’s a little easier to understand in 1U (I have the 3U), but it is one of the more complex modules I own. I couldn’t tell you now how to set up a 14- or 18-step pattern without spending ten minutes poring over what may be the worst written manual in the English language. And the only tutorial I’ve previously found consists largely of a bloke saying how easy it is to use. Yeah, right.
@modularinspiration
@modularinspiration 2 жыл бұрын
I agree it’s much easier to use as a 16 step sequencer and much more intuitive in left to right 1U format. I actually find it very intuitive to use, for example setting the sequence length is just a matter of holding down the step you want the length set at. Unless of course you’ve set loopy mode active lol
