Honestly the Spider-Man collection is probably in the ball park of reasonable with a AF 1 7.0 restored and an ASM 1 restored 6.5 for 200k. Seems a little on the high side, but not 4x overvalued like the consoles. If someone paid that price, I wouldn't call them a sucker at least. The other books pictured are much lower valued, to the point of why even include them. You could probably get CGC 9.8 grades of all the other books shown for a combined 1000.00 ish, and that's with most of the value being carried by Spectacular 1. (My big collections are comics, N64, and PS2 games, so that's why I'm always in your comments talking about comparisons to comics.)
@IkeFoxbrush2 жыл бұрын
I've seen overprized items on ebay and elsewhere and the reasoning behind that puzzled me for quite some time until I figured it out. It's typically from sellers who aren't sure what market value their listings have and try to approach that value from above by relisting them and gradually lowering the starting price each time. For buy-it-now items this is akin to a Dutch auction style. It's also an easy way to garner attention for rare items, especially on Ebay where you can add items to your watchlist and see when they are relisted. Of course there is also a chance that someone will buy it above market value, especially when your listing is the only one available. In short, overpricing rare and not so common items can be a reasonable strategy if you are in no hurry to sell and are not paying any auction fees.

The prices seem outrageous, but then again I am not really into the retro game market as it has turned to expensive for me lol. I feel like as you'll stated it is either Tommy desperately needing cash ( maybe for all the Amico refunds lol) or it's the auction house not knowing what to set prices at since apparently all they really handle is "art". I mean just for some pieces of art ( not saying all) that really don't mean or say anything people are used to throwing around hundreds of thousands of dollars ( watch Critikal's videos on art if you don't believe me), so I am also leaning on them taking that approach with video games. Like you reported on before this is apart of the disaster that happens when you have people from another market enter into one they are unfamiliar with.

Hey Pat, I am a pong clone collector. I am here to confirm that they do indeed exist. 😁 When it comes to the auction price of $2K, I wouldn't bid. The most I would be willing to pay would be about $300 if I didn't already have the Nation Semiconductor Adversary, the boxed DMS Tele-Action Mini, and boxed Bentley Compu-Vision. I have never paid more than $50 for a pong (CIB by the way) and, in my experience, most stores don't even take them in because they can't sell them for much. You've actually met me at a couple of conventions this year but pongs never came up in the conversation.....The Amico did though. 😉

In late 2020, the highest graded Amazing Fantasy #15 a cgc 9.8 restored sold for $42,200. That is what a 5.5 unrestored was worth at the time, while 9.2 unrestored was worth nearly $600,000. Restoring comics may improve their looks, but it does nothing to help their value .

Regarding the AF 15 restored 7.0: It depends on the amount of and quality of the restoration as to how much the value is diminished. I do know that many dealers will knock off up to 90% of the value of the comic if it was unrestored. I once had a 9.0 graded Showcase 23 (second Hal Jordan) with just color touch as the only restoration and it took me forever to sell it and when I did, I only got $700 for it. This is a book that at the time was worth almost $10,000 in that same grade unrestored.I would think that an AF15 7.0 with restoration (again, depending on the amount and quality) would fetch maybe $20,000. Personally, I now try to stay away from a restored comic (unless its Golden Age, as many of those tend to have some level of restoration). I would rather have an unrestored 1.8 than a restored 7.0.

I collect on clone consoles and knock-off consoles and yes there is actually a collector's community for this. Ask for Price what I'm about to say may sound a little bit weird but I swear it's the best way I can put it. Okay so clone consoles and knockoff consoles are basically worth whatever someone's willing to pay for them however some are on the higher end of what people would be willing to pay for them. I know that makes no sense but it's the best way I could put it. For example one of the most desired pong clone consoles is one of the consoles Nintendo made and yes there were multiple everyone thinks there was just one but I have seen at least two separate councils and I guarantee you there was probably a few different variants made. And for knockoff consoles the rule is the more of a knockoff system they are the more desired they are. I know it's a weird collection but there are people like me who collect them just because it's fun. Basically even the most expensive pong clone console is not even worth close to what he's trying to sell it

I wouldn't call this devkit "his". This devkit is in his possession, but it's not his. Devkits like this one are provided to developers basically on a rental basis - the devs would pay a fee and they would keep the devkits for as long as they needed them. But once they were no longer required, they were to be returned. Sony and MS also do this. So this devkit that Tommy has is not his, it remains the property of Nintendo, and should have been returned to them long ago. That's why they are generally not seen very often, it's because they are supposed to be sent back to the console maker.
@lasskinn4742 жыл бұрын
posssession is 99% of ownership, they were supposed to be sent back to the console maker but that's in past tense. there are ways for property to legally become yours/mine/tommys even if nintendo wants it back.

@@lasskinn474 Tommy or the studio Tommy was working for at the time would have signed a contract that would have stated it needed to be returned. That's legally binding, regardless of how much time has passed.
@lasskinn4742 жыл бұрын
@@WhitePointerGaming it's actually not as legally binding as you think, also after someone purchases it in good faith depending on state it's legally theirs even if it was straight up stolen and the person who sold it knew it was stolen and/or kept as breach of contract. property is more flexible in ways like that than what you think. tommy didn't probably "steal" it in the legal definition of theft(it was given to him) anyway, he kinda just kept it and nintendo had a contract with a different entity. statue of limitations etc come into play too(nintendo being aware that they don't have the thing back and not trying to get it back, they can't just wait 99 years and then decide that oh yeah we'd like it back now that it has some value)

All that grading stuff is stupid. Leave that graded game in a hot car for a while. Or in the window of your shop until the color fades out.

Plus, none of this stuff is worth grading. None of it is _anywhere_ near mint. It's been sitting in the open, in uncontrolled environs.

Tommy is accepting that he'll never be able to earn another dollar in video games. His valuations aren't based on the market for those items, but based instead on his perception of himself as a formerly successful video game creator. Also he's probably off to manage his neighborhood drug store and for the sake of his sanity he needs the reminders out of his house.

Maybe Tommy figures the people who browse that auction site are rich and usually don't care about overpaying for stuff.
@BainesMkII2 жыл бұрын
Rather than not caring about overpaying, it is much more likely targeting people that don't know anything about game prices. He picked an auction house that doesn't deal in video games, and set minimum bids that are 5x the price of the combined items. He only needs to luck his way into a single sucker bidding on a single set to see massive returns.

Hey, I can easily see some of those graded sealed game speculator idiots going for some of these auctions. I'm thinking Tommy thinks this too... _edit:_ Wait, they're not all sealed in the box, I wasn't paying enough attention.
