Once I was in a severe lightning storm while driving in my truck. I was completely surrounded by lightning. It seemed not 2 or 3 seconds went by without a strike or a multitude of strikes. It was breathtaking amazing and scary all at once. All I could say was...Lord...you hold my life in your hands! Never had I experienced an electrical storm with such magnitude.

Imagine if we just harnessed that power from lightning storms instead of suppressing anything other than big business oil and gas. One strike could produce just so much potential.

Your sound quality is unreal! The thunder felt like it was in my house, crazy barrage! I have only seen one storm that had a barrage like that and it was just as a tornado was forming in Throckmorton, Texas. Our hair was standing up for a good 30 minutes.

Goodness gracious! That's a lot of lightning barrages! We had something similar a while back here in florence, kentucky, where there were a total of at least 12 lightning barrages in a row, which I thought was pretty darn cool!

And at what point in time does common sense kick in and tell you that standing under power lines or in an open area during "crazy lightning" is not a good idea. SMH. Great display but not worth the risk to get the shot - especially when so many CG strikes falling all around.

Bro I had a supercell over my house as a child...been obsessed with nature ever since, but yeah...I can't even imagine being in one in the plains like you are here, the echo etc must be insanely chest thumping! I love it tbh...I thought our house was going to crumble because of the shaking every 2 seconds from a blinding lightning strike lol (it was all around the house, we even had some trees in the small yard with hits being more than obvious the next day).

YYYiehss... and as for me..I got some nice lightning videos too..with BIG thunder..from here in southern RI...all from 7/1/15, 7/15/15, 7/27/15, 7/28/15, 8/4/15..and I got a nice shelf cloud from 10/16/15...that's right..well worth viewing.

Last summer me, my brother and my father went kayaking in a big lake with plenty of islands here in sweden. It was a hot day, slightly above 30 degrees celsius. We were going to spend the night in a tent on one of the islands. Around 3 am one of the most intense thunderstorms that I've ever experienced here hit us, with lightning strikes every 5 seconds. The whole tent lit up every time and some were pretty close. Being on an small island in the middle of a large lake felt pretty unsafe in those conditions but there was nothing you could do but to wait it out. Later it also turned out the thunderstorm carried a mini tornado (we don't get those large ones here luckily) but fortunaly it missed us. Otherwise we might had been lifted out in the open water with the tent and all in the middle of the night.

I'm amazed at how short those thunder crashes were. That's usually signifying a tornado, as I experienced those blasts of thunder just before a tornado either formed or came right at us. Pretty scary.

There's no echo, if you went into the middle of nowhere, say Lincolnshire during a thunderstorm the thunder sounds really different

also because the lightning is so close, the further away you are it booms more, it cracks more the closer you are to the strikes!

The south, south-east and midlands do actually get thunderstorms like this with frequent lightning almost every second, but just very rarely, on average once or twice a year in the summer months, but you could be 40 miles away and in the same region but not notice a thing, very hit and miss. The English Channel tends to get the majority of the lightning fronts and most of the time they veer off to Holland and Germany, only taking a slight degree turn for them to curve off eastwards.

The one at 0:57 is definitely a positive strike. Single flash and very bright/wide channel. That's 1 GV and 300 kA right there.
@thelightninghunter23
@thelightninghunter23 5 жыл бұрын
Nope, negative. Positive CGs sound a lot more like a boom than a loud crash... and that's assuming the peak current is high enough. I recently captured a +CG that produced really soft thunder for a ground stroke because apparently the peak current was low (sub-15kA). It's a recent video on my channel.
@Kristoff3069
@Kristoff3069 9 ай бұрын
No… It is a Negative staccato with a potential amperage of 65Ka. Had it been a positive, the channel would have been smoother and the thunder would have been much louder.

I'm terrified of lightning ever since I was 15 and was struck by a bolt that hit my stove exhaust vent and I was touching it. But I'm somehow strangely drawn to storms now the constant ricocheting type noise after a strike is my favorite. Just when I though our west Texas storms are bad may they be few nothing compares to an east Texas storm when a tropical storm comes rolling in.
