An issue for Arsenal is that this is year 3 where they have been competing to be at the highest level. That takes it's toll both physically and mentally. A lot of the issues comes back to recruitment in the summer - did they do enough to stay at the level they have been at? The only permanent signings were Merino and Calafiori. So I agree about the pen. It is a pen in the CL, and depending on the ref, it's a pen in the prem too. My issue surrounding the whole handball debate is because there is an aspect of subjectivity to the decisions. I've said it for a while now. There is a very simple solution for the handball rule. So, on average, professional athletes have a reaction time of 0.15 - 0.2 seconds. So we'll take the slowest average, which is 0.2 seconds. Now, from a deflection or a player kicking the ball at someone's arm. If the ball hits their arm before the 0.2 seconds of the ball moving towards the arm, it should not be handball. So, you end up with a little flow chart. Did the player have enough time to react? If yes, then penalty. If not, then did the player move their arm? If no, no penalty. If yes, did the player move his arm towards or away from the ball? If towards, penalty. If away, then no penalty. In the instance of the Tyrone Mings handball. That's always handball. No professional player should be that oblivious. Unless the ref clearly instructs that the goal/free-kick be retaken or that he did not blow his whistle to restart the game. Remove any grey areas. It's the only solution.

Italians are well known for defending. They were so confident in their ability to do it, that they went full tilt, defensive mode from about the 50th min, well into injury time. It was always their intention. This is why most of their attack minded players were benched from the start. Arteta should have realized this and brought on the likes Nwaneri and Jesus alot earlier. Flair players that are willing to take chances breaking the line, run with the ball, into the Inter box. It's as if he has no faith in these players and prefers to stick to his favourites. Instead he chose to rather complain, after the match.
