That was to make an overtrick , which you could have pointed out....!

I looked at the hand and first idea was try to rough a diamond in the short trump hand. Why would that not work? I would consider banking on a 3-4 club split risky. Why am I wrong?

Because you get an extra trick by setting up the clubs. If the clubs don’t break you break even. If they are 4-3 you make 5.

@@wolpertbridge Thank you for the fast answer, but as far as I see I also make 5 if I manage to rough a diamond in south. I just need west to have at least 3 out of 8 diamonds which I would guess was more likely than a 3-4 club split. Will they be able to demote the king of clubs in that senario?

@@maxfriis the moment they win the diamond they cash a heart and a club. You can’t make 5 if you lose a diamond.
