In case no one has said it, your expertise and professionalism are greatly appreciated. I still view DCS as a game, but it’s game that lets me get good at things I am proud to be good at. Mostly with the guidance of talented folks like you.

This must what it is like in the FTU (USAF) or FRS (USN/USMC) during the ACM phase. Great stuff Mike. You are an excellent teacher and now providing training scenarios to build people up!

Amazing work, thank you so much! I enjoy your videos when you put them out; they are so filled with information. I will try this mission out myself, then train myself and pilot in the F-14 to get better at intercepts! Thanks again!

Fantastic I really enjoy your work and no BS approach to the real world. I now have a greater appreciation for the TOI missions I flew C182s for CAP against Toledo guard F16s. No wonder they couldn’t hang with us at 150kts 😂

Just a detail for the video to be A++; the interceptor should normally take up a position on the left side of the intercepted aircraft. If an helicopter then on the right side. Cheers 🍻

Great stuff - Thanks But, can you explain how to activate/deactivate smoke pods in F-5E? Can't seem to find a relevant bind in my control settings 😱
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom12 күн бұрын
It's really easy. You turn them on and off using the same key bind that would launch them if they were missiles.

Is the F5s radar good enough for intercepts? I don’t own it but have read it’s very poor.
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom16 күн бұрын
It is for the environment it was created for. What this means is that when it is working in conjunction with a controller using a more powerful radar. I know for a lot of DCS players a radar is only good if it does the job of an AWACS. Anything less is unacceptable. In that case the F-5 does not meet standard. In my experience the F-5 can pick up the contacts in this mission reliable out to about 20 miles. In a few rare instances I've seen them at 40 which is about as far as the scope can display.

I tried a few of Lvl 1 and 2. I tucked into flying alongside and sent the "git " radio call. He tried to fly through me. The first Lvl 2 was interesting. It was the Antonov and he was doing some different stuff.

I have to commend you for for providing training aids like this for DCS. Makes me wish I still played. Please forgive me for pointing out that in the real world you can't have a fix only three miles from the TACAN at 22,000 feet, which would be well within the cone of confusion. At that altitude 3 DME would not even be that far laterally from the transmitter, you would be directly above it. DME displays slant range, and at 22,000 feet it would indicate about 3.6 DME as you cross the transmitter. You would have no azimuth guidance and the bearing pointer would be spinning. I'm wondering if this is properly simulated in DCS.
@yappydawg898516 күн бұрын
[edited] It is... roughly. As you correctly point out, directly over the TACAN station at 22,000 feet is more than 3nm slant range. My TACAN range is showing 4 when directly over the airport and the indication flips. It is best not to look too deep under the hood :)
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom16 күн бұрын
Thanks, Gort. That is something ED should fix. I can confirm what @yappydawg0995 said. Displayed TACAN range is slant range and not ground track.
@gort820316 күн бұрын
@@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom If displayed TACAN DME is slant range it is correct then I don't see what ED needs to fix. You must mean DCS does not simulate the cone of confusion over the TACAN, which causes unusable azimuth guidance.
