What is the optimal maneuvering to kinetically defeat a radar-guided missile? Is it better to go cold and dive, or to do some weaving to make the missile change direction to lead you and loose energy?

Well, let me tell you, KZbin is doing a terrible job. I've been watching these DCS videos about tactics and all the in-depth stuff for a long time and this is the first time I'm seeing your channel being recommended. Great video. Thanks.

it's important to mention that the order in the trigger menu is important otherwise you get lua errors. first mist then skynet iads compiled and then myiads it's trivial, but worth mentioning :)

And when a station sends out, a pulse at 700000 Wat at the same time as another station, and when these pulses overlap in that specific area. Any weather will be magnified. Exponentially and a ring will appear in the sky from the particles. Being excited, just ask Joplin, Missouri.

One thing I don't quite get here: what's with the callsigns? Looks like Iron 11 is the callsign for the flight and Iron 1, 2, 3, 4 are callsigns for the flight members? I don't quite get how that works.
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom21 күн бұрын
The flight lead's callsign is also the flight's callsign. Individual members will also have their callsign. The full version will be Iron 11, Iron 12, Iron 13, etc. However, when they are using a channel that's just for flight members and not anyone outside the flight, then it's okay to use a short hand which is just the last number (ie 1, 2, 3, 4). Hopefully, that makes more sense.
@tomaszwota146521 күн бұрын
@@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom not quite for me. If there was Iron 1 and Iron 2 flight, then callsigns would be Iron 1-1, Iron 1-2... Iron 2-1, Iron 2-2... Correct? Or maybe I'm already wrong there?
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom20 күн бұрын
@@tomaszwota1465 The flight's callsign is the same as the flight lead's callsign. So in your example it would be Iron 11 and Iron 21 when addressing the entire flight.

Outstanding series of videos, I do controlling in the real world so this has been great at visually explaining BVR tactics, techniques, and procedures to the DCS group I run with. Additionally breaking down the comms associated with sorting, targeting, and shot calls.

I suspect when the F-4E phantom releases this month a lot of players will be flying it, so I'm excited to see if I'll be able to get my friends into larger flights like a 4 man flight instead of the usual "Only 2 of us are on, let's do a flight of 2". These communication videos are huge for helping learn how to keep the chaos of multiple people in a single group somewhat organized.

Great stuff as always! Do you play much single player and do you have any luck getting the AI wingman to attack what you want?
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom28 күн бұрын
I do a good amount of single player and no, the AI can be frustrating a lot. In BVR I've had occasions where one or two wingmen just won't engage the enemy. BVR is best done with human wingmen.

🌟I really appreciate your videos Mike @TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom, especially around comms. I'm a civilian pilot and covering the military for decades and it still sounds like Klingon every once in a while. You've been a very helpful translator. I may even start playing DCS.
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom28 күн бұрын
It's funny that you mention that. When I watch ATC videos I wonder how anyone understands that stuff. But I guess if you fly in and out of the same airport regularly you come to expect what's coming next.

@@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom Oh yea! Especially the landmarks, taxiways, fuel pit, etc. Surely it is Greek to visitors but with the electronic flight bag-type tools the kids have these days that can follow you even on the ground all of that has even become less difficult. The brevity PDF you've mentioned has been a big help for me on the mil side as well.

If you pulled the brevity from that JP you showed, it's out of date. There's a 2023 edition
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom29 күн бұрын
When I originally started work on this series the 2020 edition was the only one my viewers could access without a CAC. So I went with that for the graphic. However, I did find the 2023 is available through an official source today so I've linked that in the description. The definitions are exactly the same in both editions though so there shouldn't be any confusion.
@ROTNReaper29 күн бұрын
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom yeah I was just looking through it 2 days ago, but wasn't sure if there were any significant changes to any preexisting brevity. Just looks like it added in some new ones from what I saw

This is great. Could you also cover ATC / GCI comms as well, sometime? I have not been able to find really ... cohesive documentation on this (and likely others). Also, awesome video on Air Tasking Orders. Hits close to home : ) Always recommend your stuff to friends for learning
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom29 күн бұрын
ATC and GCI are both really in depth. I have linked the TTP used by GCIs in the description. And I recommend checking out my Air Supremacy series to see how its used in practice. It's spread over several videos though so it'll take some time to get through.

Awesome video! I think it would be really cool if you teamed up with Reflected Simulations or Baltic Dragon to make a realistic training campaign that allows players to practice these concepts!
@TallyVisual29 күн бұрын
Another great video! You really keep pushing these out. Keep it up! Some small criticism: In my experience most sim players have an idea of what targeting and sorting is but they dont have a clear understanding of the difference. So it would have been good to delineate visually that sorting is really only within the group and recollect what a group is.

communications has always been one of my weaknesses in air combat, hopefully thisll help me get a bit better at it. of course this also means ill have to train my wingmen to actually pay attention to more than just a fox code, but thatll come later.
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom29 күн бұрын
You are absolutely correct that it isn't easy. But it does get better with practice.

Sir what is the main difference of radar waves and pulse.I mean pulse is not an electromagnetic wave ?
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom29 күн бұрын
A pulse is just a wave that has been cut short. You'll hear radars differentiated as being either "continuous wave (CW)" or "pulse" because of this. CW just means you never cut the wave down.

I worked on the E2-C aircraft in the 80's. I used to walk around on the flight deck of the USS Independence and USS Forrestal with a box called a Sniffer, to check that all of the planes Mode IV was working, and had the right code before leaving the deck.

Discovered in 1940s? Seems like this is false as this is part of classical physics and was known since 19th century or earlier. 1940s is probably when it was first used practically, not when it was discovered that both radio waves and micro waves are a form of electromagnetic radiation.
@lane2617Ай бұрын
Radar was discovered in 1940s just it's not like current era Radar. It was a search radar and wasn't like current radar but some World War 2 planes had radar and they used it to find aircraft and that's all it could do just search for aircraft hope it helped
