Very interesting and thanks for sharing. I have a new fuel filter to install along with other bits (regrec relocation kit from you included) when I can bring myself to park it up for a few days.

Good timing for me, as the tank is off to check the tappet adjustments at 12,000 miles, so might as well replace the fuel filter as well.

Great video James, old paper filter looks bad, could be a bike stopper. My new fuel filter arrived today so will be fitting tomorrow. As always your channel addresses issues that need to be sorted 👍

Well Thank You James. I will soon be doing my second valve check/adjustment at 12K miles. I will be sure to order me up a few fuel filters on Ebay today so I have one at the ready. DanO

@@danoconner9336 definitely worth doing, I’d say. I can’t believe how bad my filter was!

Would be interesting to find out if there's a suitable aftermarket replacement that could be disassembled and cleaned, that's supposed to be replaced entirely...

@ yes. The only thing is that it would need a shoulder on the inlet and outlet and be exactly the correct diameter for the pipe retaining clip….

At about 3000 miles my bike started feeling a bit lethargic from 3 to 4000 revs so i took the filter off and gave it a good shake and a few taps on the work bench and when i tipped it up to drain it there was what looked liked a yellowy slurry coming out. When it dried it was powdery like paint powder, so i wonder if spray has got in tank at factory? A new filter seemed to cure it. Still has an slightly unstable idle as usual though, they seem to vary a bit, bike to bike.

Hi James, I'm wondering how much of that is contaminated fuel and how much down to a poor quality filter degrading?

My bet is bad fuel these days

What was the reason for fitting a new filter? Age or mileage?
@lenhartley890412 күн бұрын
The purpose of a fuel filter is to remove contaminants, sediment, rust, and impurities from fuel before it enters the engine. This prevents damage to the engine and other components. RE Manuel states every 15000 miles, James has only 8000 & is in poor condition. If it gets to contaminated then it could block fuel flow causing bike to stop even at speed. Hopefully not whilst on the middle lane of a motorway.

@@martinowl both, really.

Didn’t realise it had a specified replacement age. Obviously if you do check its condition prior to the mileage stated & it looks poor, then defo a change is needed. 👍

@ it’s a destructive test though. Unfortunately, it’s a black plastic housing so it’s impossible to see is inside it without sawing the end off!
