I remember getting the Intercity 225 train set for my birthday as a kid. I was a little disappointed with the pantograph being made of plastic and not real. But I still have it to this day. Upgrading it would be a nice option for it.

Looks like a great project there. I was going to upgrade mine with parts from a Lima Class 67 using the bogies, drive shaft and central can motor. I have recently upgraded one of my weak Class 92 locomotives with a new setup using the Hornby Class 50 parts in a similar way. So I might try that :). Ash.

Good video as always. I've been away from railway modelling for a few years (but its all packed up in boxes should the urge return) I've got loads of Hornby models with this style of bogie. I have a suggestion that, if fesable, could save a bit of effort and further improve electrical pickup performance. As Hornby have made the additional pickup for the rear bogie, have they also made axles for it without the teeth on the plastic bushes? If they have then getting a pair would: a) Save a bit of work trimming the teeth off. b) Release the original rear bogie axles to be re-cycled for the motor bogie, and as these have no tracion tyres there is potential for 8 wheel pickup. If Hornby haven't made a modifed axle then another pair of standard rear bogie axles could be obtained (there must be plenty of them about in the secondhand market - Hornby must have used them on just about every diesel and electric loco they made between the 70s and 90s!) they just need that extra bit of work to cut the teeth off. Doing this does potentially create another problem - traction tyres were fitted for a reason, but as its a big loco, even with a DCC chip fitted I'm sure additional weight could be added to help with adhesion issues. Keep up the good work

Very well done! I'm surprised that Hornby didn't leave the switch in ( as the hole is moulded on the body) but by pass it as you have now done on the cheaper model...

Nice tutorial certainly well detailed! Surprised however that you didn't use a back to back gauge for the wheels so they run over points reliably (which have tighter tolerances than straight track)

Could you use a twin drive bogie set up on the 91? or put a dvt on a 91 chassis so it drives from both ends of the train?

Is they a way to get a front coupling on a hornby class 91? Is they a NEM pocket or simillar provisions for attaching a coupling?
@philipstokes2824
@philipstokes2824 4 жыл бұрын
I have added one to mine using another slab end bogie frame, you need to extend the coupling to be in line with the buffers using in my case a two short lengths of sparkler after the kids have used the on bonfire night, you also need to cut the front valance off the loco frame and attach it to the new bogie frame. I also did much the same thing with the DVT, and also used a tsoe endplate commercially available on one of the coaches, so now my 91 can run round it's train and continue it's journey after TDM failure or if the air-conditioning in No1 cab fails, or like in their early days hauling MK3 sleeper test trains or mk1s when the farewell to the class 25 tour ran. Might not look as pretty as if it was superdetailed with all the hoses etc but is more realistic in operating potential, you pays your money and takes your choice.

+ThePelaajapoika50 OO GAGE
@peterforden5917
@peterforden5917 7 жыл бұрын
oo and ho use the same rails the scale is ho=3,5mm to the foot, oo is 4mm to the foot, so OO is actually for historical reasons narrow guage despite ho being invented by A.R.Walkley in England a year or so before Märklin introduced it, the problem being the size of commercially available electric motors as opposed to Mr Walkleys actally building his electric motors from scratch! There was a narrow guage railway in cornwall which used 4 foot guage (width betwen the rails) which equates exactly to OO guage making it exact scale!

John Brush Seems very short-sighted. They build junk, the public discovers it's junk, and it's very difficult, in the long run, to reverse that opinion and win back the modeler. Having grown up with Rivarossi, Arnold, Rapido, Bachmann, and a couple of others, I know the new stuff is good, and even made by different companies, but the bad aura remains attached to the name.
