I suppose you could run that as a 2 car set as well seeing how the motor is in only one unit.

I've had that 'Combi' unit for over forty-seven years - it's still the smoothest controller I own (for DC). Gaugemaster outclasses everything else - those nasty, cheap Hornby units - & even the modern day contemporaries are as nothing compared to GM. I (also) own another British based manufactured controller - Hammant & Morgan's 'Duette' - solid-state build quality; another faultless power unit. Of course, unless you want to run two locomotives on the same track, then there's no need to upgrade to DCC - naturally, GM have accommodated the modern contemporary chipped locomotives into their power unit range. Sublime stuff.

The information on the Class 201 is incorrect about their max speed. They can actually reach a top speed of 102 mph and not 100, though the 201s only operate at 100 mph anyway, I take it that they were making a rough estimation. I got one of these locos today and it said the same as yours, but the only difference is that mine is in enterprise green and gold liver no. 8208. But besides that, I love it, I cannot wait to finish my layout and see it run in style!

When England invented the train, I'll never understand as a Yank, why their steam didn't have headlights while a little later in appearing, the US engines DID !! How did/do British crews safely run in the dark at night ? I know they hung lanterns on/near the pilot beam..But how could that have lit up the right of way far enough ahead to see if there are fallen rocks, trees, a washed out bridge and such ? What don't I get ??.. Anyway, it IS a very nice looking and functioning model !! Nice photography, too !

Hi Will I just wanted to pop back here to say thank you. You got me hooked on trains and model railways. Without your videos I would have no idea where I would be in life. Some of my best memories were of me coming home from primary school and watching your videos. You may never see this but oh well. So I am eternally grateful for you and your Videos. Thank you.

Hello InterCity82. So for starters, this was the first ever video I ever watched of yours, and is part of what really got me into model trains. Secondly, I have a question that’s been on my mind for a while, and when I look it up, I don’t get a clear answer. At 1:42, you called the B12 Locomotive “Smart”. What exactly do you mean when you say that she’s smart? I ask because I’ve seen a few other videos of people calling machines smart back in the day, like the RMS Mauretania for example before she was sent to the shipbreakers. The man in the video said, “She’s not as smart as she used to be”.

First off, nostalgia hits hard. Second, I cannot believe it’s been eight years already. Third, as an American, I absolutely love the HST, and I’m glad I was able to catch a glimpse of one when me and my family visited the UK two years ago.

The narration is a bit annoying and as someone who also makes videos another person talking is a net negative.

Great video, i think the big centrally mounted motors used by bachmann were more reliable and easier to service in the DMUs you couldn't see inside them anyway and you could still fit a few fare dodgers in the few seats in the power car 😊

Did you ever get around to a remastered review of that red train? So, about those big molded end pieces. Yes, they're very simplistic. But they do serve some valuable purposes. First, cost-reduction - it would take a lot of bricks to replicate the nose shape, driving the price of the set up. Second, space: Replicating that shape with bricks would also leave a lot less room inside, making it substantially more cramped to put the driver minifig and the lights in there. They did do the multicolor thing back in your day. In fact, they probably did it more. It was also a cost thing - primary color parts are hyper-common, so they're cheap. And so Lego loves to use them for hidden stuff. I think a lot of the time those sudden extra-simple steps are to pad the page layout so that it doesn't end up lopsided. The problem you had was that you put the station on the *outside* of the layout even though the instructions _clearly_ show it going on the *inside.*
