Using biological manipulation as their starting point, both "Mimic" and "Splice" move into the consequences of that manipulation. In the latter movie, I particularly like the lines in which the male scientist confronts and tells the female scientist what her real motivation is for what she has done. Though the biological element is not portrayed as being earthly, it does start the action in the very clever "John Dies At The End:" It's an excellent movie.

Cronenberg definitely loves his body horror. And he always ALWAYS manages to include at least one massively gory scene, no matter what his film is about. Always be prepared for that in any Cronenberg. No coincidence two of his films were included here. “The Fly” is magnificent. Thanks for the new recommendations, as always. I believe “Code 46” will be my lunchtime viewing today.

What about Gene Generation?? Am I the only one who actually loves that film? Also Equilibrium is an excellent film for fellow biopunk lovers. It stars Christian Bale who delivers a thrilling performance!
@batuhancokmar73304 жыл бұрын
If it had a better budget and better production team in general, Gene Generation could have been the best biopunk movie ever made. It started great, its atmosphere, characters (cast+clothes+make up) were just perfect. Its overall plot was also very good, sub-par CGI and clumsy dialogue was not really an issue, but movie failed badly in its last 15 minutes or so: A 5 minutes worth of out-of-order scenes with VERY flawed dialouge writing, than 10 minute finale that failed to explain anything or to conclude the plot. It had a terrible ending, not only talking about emotional perspective but more from plot perspective: Even though I like the film, I'll still say the ending made whole movie almost pointless to watch.. Gene Generation and Spawn are probably the two movies that deserve a high-budget reboots than anything else out there.

These are more horror then sci-fi, but have that body horror element: Splinter, The Thing (both), Alien series (Ridley Scott), Species series, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (70s one is best but all would qualify), Re-animator series, Virus, Lifeforce, C.H.U.D., Night of the Comet, From Beyond, and of course Frankenstein is the original steampunk body horror, so any retelling of that story might be in line...

Nice list, from which I just added 5 of the films to my own watchlist, including a couple of rewatches. But am I the only who thinks SPLICE is the king of the subgenre? First, any movie starring (or directed by) Sarah Polley is automatically worth watching. But SPLICE has the magic combination of being entertaining, having something to say about the biological question at hand, and being creepy as all get-out. And don't be misled: The creepiness increases proportionally with how many minutes you are into it.

Check the AstroPilot & Lokijar music (hurtfully deep) used in "Space Engine", Check the Vangelis music of Bladerunner (you probably already have), IIRC the UK Sci-fi series Black Mirror, Utopia and Humans had some nice deep feely music.
