My wife is from Managua and she’s looking for ways to get me to try “leche agria” (buttermilk) and lengua. So far, she’s been unsuccessful. I do love Gallo Pinto with a coconut oil base, arroz aguado, natatamal, sopa maggi with boiled eggs, and arroz valenciana. Fortunately for her, I was used to cooking for myself while I was single. I take over the kitchen on the weekends now to give her a break.
@DarzRojas2 жыл бұрын
Lol. Yum that gallo pinto with coconut is so so good. Lucky wife! That's awesome.
@DisneyMom212 жыл бұрын
Wow! You should try the lengua though. As a Nicaraguan-American, I was always surrounded by this kind of cuisine. Lengua en salsa, with white rice, plátanos on the side is so yummy. Give it a try!

Love your t-shirt 🔵⚪🔵 Very interesting list of foods and habits... Never heard of breaking chicken bones or eating fish eyeballs 😅😂🤣 I do eat some chicken bone cartilage (yum!) and we do eat a "SUSTANCIA" made from the largest bones of the cow "sopa de médula" (yummy and insanely nutritious), similar to Ossobuco ❤ Yes, quesillo is melted cheese curd which is how fresh mozzarella is made ❤. I often explain nacatamal as "stuffed polenta" ❤. Moronga is consumed here in the US as "blood sausage" and in the UK as "black pudding" although ours is more like "morcilla" in Spain ❤. *LOVE* me some 'sopa de mondongo' and 'titiles' are the b0mb 😍❤😍 Saludos! PS: Ya me dió hambre 🤠🤙🏻

In South Louisiana, we eat hog head cheese which ranges from mild to spicy. The blood and rice sausage is called "boudin" in Cajun Country and we also have meat boudin without the blood. It is definitely waste not, want not in Louisiana. You and Tomas should try alligator and crawfish. C'est bon!

Once at a restaurant at the Mirador de Catarina we ordered the family platter. Everything was delicious, including what I thought was some weird Nicaraguan sushi. It was Moronga. It was okay, but after finding out what it was I couldn't take another bite. I tried turtle eggs once in San Jorge. I did it solely for the experience. Didn't like and that ended my tasting of food just for the experience. BTW, I am an American living in Nicaragua. Moved here in 2014, at the age of 50. My mother was born and raised here so I had automatic citizenship. I love Nicaragua and I don't think I will ever leave.
@DarzRojas3 жыл бұрын
Oooohhh haha I've never seen Moronga served on an "everything" plate like family platters, in Nicaragua. Oh goodness I'm not very good at trying new foods because my mouth is very sensitive to strange textures. That's so awesome! Do you live within a city or more in a quiet area?

Muchas de esas son comidas que se consumen en casi toda latinoamerica e incluso en Europa. Según se, la moronga se conoce como morcilla en otros países, y el estómago de res también se consume en montón de países. Talvez la forma de prepararlos es lo que cambia.

quesillo not sure if other countries in the central american region do this, the bean soup, we say estoy tomando sopa, bebiendo may refer to the soup (water), nacatamales are fattening, Moronga, i think we may have gotten it from the British or Irish, they have something similar , look up rice pudding with pig blood.
