I'm wondering how can the FAA certifies that plane, It does not make sense. Sometimes, if not even most, the FAA allows Boeing to investigate itself and takes appropriate action to ensure safety. What worries me is that the 777-300er flies 13,650km with 396 pax according to Boeing and 777-9 13,500 with 412 pax. Not much of difference but when comparing fuel capacity the 777-300er 181,300L & 777-9 198,000L. Where's the fuel savings? I know that the 777-9 has more capacity but is that enough? A350-1000 flies 16,100km (much further) with 350-410 pax according to Airbus, which is similar. However they do it with much less fuel 159,000L !!! Of course there are benefits to a more modern plane but I don't see the savings. Houston, we got a problem...

This is like a Mercedes Commercial. "New seats, luxurious leather, new tech, all for more than you make and ten years." Can't wait to see it. It it is as successful as the original 777, then this should basically be a run away hit. That price is a problem though. Simply put, scale. Composite bodies require an autoclave to cure, and the 787 already required building the largest ever in the world, at great difficulty and cost. The 777X is even larger, so would be even more expensive and add years to the already delayed delivery date.

none of these planes will be a barn burner in terms of sales, and the same applies to A350-1000. They are plain too large except for the biggest trunk routes, having been replaced by smaller, nimbler, more cost effective variants like the Dreamliners and A350-900. The 777-8 in particular will never see the light of day. It is just not competitive against A350-1000. Qantas' recent choice for their Sunrise Project. Boeing's plane simply does not match Airbus' nemesis in missions from Australia to Japan or Hong Kong, or Singapore, for example. The reason for this is that A350-1000 ended up being more economical than initially envisioned at the time of launch of announcing 777-8.

Putting higher pressure into a metal fuselage not originally designed for it? Next thing you know they'll be attaching engines too big for the original design of the fuselage that cause the nose to point upward and pilots won't be able to control it...... I mean theoretically, you know, if they ever got really stupid and reckless. But surely not. Boeing knows when something's MAXed out, right?

Same. Imagine flying business or first in this beast. I like this plane a lot because like the a350, it provides a lot of comfort for all classes. Because in my personal opinion, I find the 10 seat abreast in the current 777 quite cramped. Then you have those huge engines and folding wingtips. Very nice. Though I quite disagree with the 1000+ orders. I’m quite skeptical about that.

Considering that it is not a new plane but mainly an update to the wings and new engines they have surprisingly long development times. But it is good to see that the FAA appears to no longer rubber stamp all Boeing products.

If Boeing wants to take advantage of their new 777X aircraft, I think they should also offer a twinjet domestic variant for Indian, Chinese and Japanese market, just like what Boeing did with 747-400D to the Japanese market. Range may be slashed by half but it’s frequency shelf life can be double by half due to tailored landing gear for domestic travel, which could withstand wear and tear. If a double decker is no longer feasible (A380 looking at you), then the best Boeing can do is to go with a domestic variant of 777-10 that could sit between 500-600 people. Say it comes out in 2030 after Boeing sorts out its issues, it really could put the A380 out of pasture for good.

I wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses the expectations of the triple 7 x. Boeing would be foolish not to build a freighter version of it, and with Air freight increasing I'm quite sure they will. When Jets have been increasing over the last 30 years which puzzles me why Air bus went ahead with the A380 with them knowing fuel consumption and maintenance costs. People would much rather fly to point rather than meet at some hub and then continue on.

@@FSXgta It would be nice in addition to a normal shutter, I like looking out the window during a flight but it can be obnoxiously bright in a dark cabin and make things uncomfortable for myself and other passengers. Being able to tint it on demand is awesome, but it'll never be dark enough to let someone sleep comfortably unless there's a physical shutter.

I hate these dimming windows, because they are centrally controlled by the flight attendants. The window seats have their own controls, but the cabin crew can override whatever the passengers set the window to with a single button press.

@@FSXgta I agree. More things that can break. What was wrong with the manual shutters. But this is typical American thing - let's make it complex. Reminds me of the story where they spend a lot of money (some privately financed) developing the space pen, so it could work in zero gravity. Others solved this using a pencil.

Boeing 777X is very nice airplane , but though said , i don't understand , why Boeing decided to kill 747-8 model instead of making from existing 747-8 model , with some changes , new-modern 747 twin engine airplane , because 747 is way more practical than 777 ........ , because keep in mind , that dimensionally , like fuselage length and width , there's insignificant difference between 747-8 and 777X , but as i already mentioned , 747-8 is way more practical because of front nose cargo entry 747 got way better cargo capabilities than 777 . If there is no possibility keep in production both models , so by my opinion kill 777 model make much bigger sense than kill 747 which you can use like passenger airplane but also as very good cargo airplane .
