Those other ones u are seeing are different, the one with the angles, that sorta look like a tank turret it fires slower but fires a bigger round that explodes near the incoming object destroying it with shrapnel. Its not rate of fire based like the c ram. Britains goalkeeper is also a very good design. Theres also a twin barrel varient that also shoots missiles, thats atm the most potent ciws, the russian one, i forget its name. But its pretty lethal, it fires faster, has 2 barrels and bigger rounds. All the american one has over it is better coding and is more responsive. The phalanx when they worked caus they were known for not working at all for a while when we first had them, but after they did worked they proved to be really quick and twitchy. C-RAM (Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar) is a highly effective system used to defend against incoming attacks. It utilizes advanced radar and computer systems to detect and destroy enemy missiles before they can reach their target. C-RAM has been successfully deployed in several conflict zones around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan. Its ability to rapidly detect and react to incoming threats has made it a valuable asset for military forces. Overall, C-RAM's effectiveness in thwarting attacks is a testament to the power of advanced technology in modern warfare.

Yeah, the unlimited ammo bit is waay off base. When it comes down to it, limited energy is what makes all ammo limited. The only reason we don't collect spent ammo and remelt it into new ammo is that it takes much more energy than simply starting from new raw materials. And of course, _new_ metal is limited, but the total amount of metal on the Earth has never changed. Same thing with gunpowder. Unlimited energy allows you to collect the ashes and reverse the chemical process that explodes it.
@dark12ain2 жыл бұрын
The laser gun thing takes too much power right now to be unlimited
@jpaugh64 Жыл бұрын
Right. And while battery technology is not even energy-dense enough for large e-planes, energy availability is (ultimately) the reason that all ammo is limited. We know that the amount of materials on the Earth never changes; and we know how to recycle ♻️ metals, and how to undo chemical reactions like the one that explodes gunpowder; but we don't have a power-efficient way to collect and reconvert all of it.

So C-RAM is essentially CIWS (close-in weapon system) placed on land and with different ammunition. I imagine the tracer rounds would also be beneficial when used with CIWS to aid visual confirmation and identification. I often travel to Portsmouth in the south of England (apparently the largest naval station in Europe) and they often have Royal Navy ships docked for resupply. The last time I was there they had HMS Defender in port and I was also lucky enough to see the famous HMS Illustrious (her crew often called her 'Lusty') many years ago and to see these Phalanx canons up close sends a shiver down your spine. They look foreboding and like something from the future. To be clear I don't mean I saw the Phalanx system on Illustrious as she was using Goalkeeper CIWS but all the older ships using that system were eventually swapped for the Phalanx other than Illustrious which was scrapped in 2010.

The M61A1 also fires at 6000 RPM. It is typically set there for fighter installation. Notably it is set at 3900 for the F 35. Not really sure why. It has been capable of 6000 RPM since it's creation and was set at that since it's first aircraft appearance on the F 104 in 1959.

What could go wrong with firing thousands of rounds into the air? Especially when a base is close to a city.

I just love how how the basic idea of it is "F**K EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT THINGS EXISTENCE " and atomizes it

I live surrounded by; Fort Sill, Marine traing base, Lawton,Oklahoma. It is 145 square miles of field Artillery range. That makes it the largest field Artillery practice range on earth!!! The Marines, train with the CRAM system, flares, and they blow stuff up every day!!! The CRAM system is as incredible to hear, as it is to watch!!! What am I afraid of??? Not one thing!!! Wish I could have one of those mounted on my car. Would be super helpful when other drivers start road-raging on me. 🤗

When I was in the Navy. We performed a, burial at sea. They chose the CIWS for the 21 gun salute. It took a fraction of a second to fire all 21. This was during the gulf war era. I guess we were in a hurry to get into the fight.

Anyone pay attention to the very first opening clip! That C-RAM dumped almost 100 rounds towards buildings tracking that jet!

If you start at 2:14 and watch for a sec they describe how this is possible, depending on the distance damagesay still have been caused tho. The ammunition is made to self destroy after a set distance to prevent collateral damages in the very likely case of target misses.
@l3ad3d2 жыл бұрын
@@stanleyamerski4609 I am aware of that feature. in the video the distance of the building is unknown! So do we really know??
