I had a friend who went to Dubai to work...but came back home after 8 months. It was such a relief to see my friend arrive home safely. But my heart broke to hear of the trauma experienced by many workers there. The people who help build Dubai with their bare hands ought to be treated with civility, dignity, respect and deep gratitude.

I went to Dubai over the summer. I really enjoyed myself while I was there, but once I met the locals, rather it be Pakistani, people from Bangladesh, or India, and some Africans, I knew that it wasn’t the place for me. All that glitz and glam is off the backs of darker people and I don’t like that. I didn’t like the fact that I got to be comfortable and lavish, but the locals people that helped build this city are being treated like trash. As I was about to leave Dubai, I felt that darkness and most likely won’t go again

@AjaniSpeaks3 жыл бұрын
@Kris C seem like you defending dubai. You can hate the US as much as you want. the US is far from perfect but you can not sit here and act like dubai is as perfect as they make it seems . How about you pack your bags and move to a different country and never come back to the states ? Their are people all around the world killing themselves to come get the opportunity over here .. Their is a reason why the US is world power they have done alot of bs and still doing alot of Bs but this countries has more freedom than any other nation . This country is where people come to become whom ever the want to be..
@AjaniSpeaks3 жыл бұрын
@Kris C lmao name me one Nation with more freedom than US? You can't cause they don't exist. The reason why china is doing so well is cause right now the US is divided . China is communist country not to mention the nation's are not holding china accountable. If you Hate America for being corrupt then that fair however you better keep the same energy when it come to dubai and china especially china where they have concentration camp for Muslims. people want cheap labor which is why they go to china other than that china has nothing on the states. They are stealing other countries tech while people in the US sell their country men to china .. so now name me a Country where they have more freedom than America imma wait .even UK doesn't have the same amount of rights. Anyone can become someone over here that just the facts while countries like My home country no matter how hard you work you won't see no change .. you can hate the US that fine but you can't also sit down and act like dubai is better than the US or say dubai has no corruption cause that would be a massive lie ..
@AjaniSpeaks3 жыл бұрын
@Kris C this just show you know nothing about capitalism socialism and communism. You know absolutely nothing about china your " china does real business" lmao you hate America so much you are willing to look pass china and what they are doing things like this just shows you don't seriously stand by you principles you just say things out of air that you think makes sense . It is right the US is corrupt plus china does not have a bigger market than the US not yet.. they are close but not yet. I can say that however you are out here making false statements just so you can fit your narrative which shows you're are not operating on logic you are operating on feeling Which is fine. I won't say uk is more stable than US . Both the US and UK are alot similar than you think. Ofc UK has terrorism problems going on over there aswell but let not talk about that since you said they are more stable . The biggest part where you "argument starts to crumble is how you ignore that china is a communists country literally their government is call the CCP for a reason . Chinese communists party it has the name communists in it . Kenya doesn't have more freedom than the state that also false . You really have the audacity to say Kenya has more freedom than the states? However the media is lying about US actually they are the same people talking bad about the state lying to people about the state. You know nothing about politics .you're just acting on your feelings and ignoring the rest you ain't cut out for this.. US has it problems no doubt but you can't tell me China is any better. We can both point out the flaws and goods but I'm sure you know nothing about china so I'm going to give you a pass on that one.
@AjaniSpeaks3 жыл бұрын
@Kris C the thing is you're saying this to a african born individual. I've seen what the worst part of society can result in . I've traveled and I don't listen to media cause it's bs . You know nothing about china the crazy thing is you're gas lighting. You know how closed of china is to the rest of the world ? Do you know they are harvesting organs from minority? Do you know if you go to china and talk bad about the Ccp you would be jailed or killed? This is the disingenuous arguments I can't stand. You obviously know nothing about china yet talking on it like you know so much. To be fair I don't know too much about it but I've studied enough about to see that it not all rainbow and unicorns. Just cause you have one case of a family member enjoying the life in Dubai doesn't mean that how most minority experience it You know the reason why china start blowing up economically is cause of capitalism and how they started accepting trade with different countries? The same reason you dislike the Us can be said about china' as well the crazy thing they are still doing genocide against a minority group . I'm going to state it again that you don't act on principles you act on emotions. I don't know much about dubai but based on what I've read and what I've been told by my siblings it not as good as some might claim But yes it's still a beautiful country. And About the cops that arguably the US has 300+ million people and only few people get killed a year by cop relative to population size and the amount of death its decent.

I’m bussines man myself I own night clubs in London and this is the first time I been to dubai , as bussines man I like to watch thing discover things and see how people run company and business . And dubai is what you just said it’s on your video modern slavery 100/100 . Here how I know this we been to this restaurant and I see this young guy working behind the bar I watched him hours how hard working person he was and the experience he had with drinks and cocktails , so I start speaking to him he finish university of base in food and drinks tasting and mixers his experience are very high . So my bill was 900£ for food and drinks for 2 people which is fine I can afford that I’m willing to pay high price in high end restaurants. However he was working 12 hours day and his wages was only 300 dollar month . So my question is this how could you sell food for 900£ and pay staff 300£ month ? So cut long story to sort he said for dubai that’s good money other people gets like 100 dollars month . So I offers him job in London working for me

I am Indian and could relate to everything what is mentioned here. The worst part was I was working as management consultant to major construction companies both in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and I used to suggest measures to improve productivity of the direct workforce. While interacting with the labour at the construction sites, I just used to sympathize with their living conditions and insane working hours under the sun. Once a worker approached me and said - Sir, we have so many people sharing room and bathrooms that if we want to have shower, we need to get up at 4 AM in the morning and join the queue as we need to report to work at 6 AM. The only suggestion I would give to those seeking to go to middle east - you can make equally good money working in major Indian cities as carpenter, plumber or electrician by being your own boss, trust me. P.S Edit: Thanks for all your likes and comments. There are lots of repetitive questions which I wish to answer here rather than replying individually 1) For those of you asking me why I worked in Dubai if treated badly.....I worked as consultant to construction companies, not as skilled labor...I did not experience the atrocities like what the labor force faced, my comments were mere reflection of what I have SEEN and HEARD first hand 2) Those saying salary is more in Dubai compared to what he can earn in India, please read my comments below, I have shared the salary comparison for your reference. Again, this is from my own experience having worked with multiple major contractors, feel free to vet with your own research 3) To those who say the workers don't even get water in India and they must be happy that atleast water is available in the camps they stay in Dubai, you must be either blind or freaking speak through your ass....Don't have anything further to say on these baseless comments 4) Many have asked why despite all of these issues the workers migrate there...Well like mentioned in the comments, the agent promises something and reality is something else. Now with social media and exposure, lesser people are opting to go and work in the ME. FINALLY, I don't have anything against Emiratis, Omanis, Saudis etc....Many of the Arabs I had worked with are very nice and friendly people. Also I have nothing against their government. My entire objective of this post is to bring awareness to the people going to work in the ME (especially the skilled ones going there to work in construction sites). Ask your agent to give referrals of people who are at present in the ME...Speak with them and their family to enquire on the working conditions. Many might still want to go and work there, but atleast you know what's in store when you get there. PERIOD!

I can relate to this video. My fiance is Filipina and she worked there. Her company seized the passports of their workers which is illegal and even sent out a letter explaining they had the local authorities permission to hold their passports. They would also even hold their paychecks for stupid reasons and not give out a pay stub. She would be upset she worked so many hours and then they only payed her for half. Then because they weren't giving out the pay statement she couldn't argue on her hours worked. One day she was at work and near the mall and saw a construction worker getting yelled at by locals cause he used the same door as them to go inside the mall. If your a construction worker then you are lower class and must use a different door to go inside the mall. She tried to leave and had to go through so much hoops to try to get her passport back. They also said she would have to pay a crazy amount of Durham's to quit her job and leave. It was like the equivalent of $1600 us dollars plus also have to buy a plane ticket back home. That would take ages for a migrant there to pay that. I helped her pay the fees and get back home and she is now back in the Philippines and we are waiting on our K1 visa. That place is horrible. Racism and discrimination there is beyond rampant. I strongly disapprove of anyone going there to work cause they think they will have a better life.

@juma hashim The workers come from third world countries with very few job opportunities and there have been many campaigns and warnings about the terrible treatment of workers in the UAE as well as Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The point is that UAE is a wealthy country that markets itself on luxury yet the country is built on the blood and sweat of modern day slave labor. The Kafala system has been a target of human rights activists for decades. Occasionally they will pretend to change a law to appeal to the civilized world but it's all about appearance.

The richer the Arab country, the worse it will exploit anyone non Arab (maybe there are exceptions to this but I haven't seen many.). This video didn't even touch on the horrors that women migrant workers in hospitality type industries probably are suffering as well. Maids, housekeepers, and other services, the laboring women viewed as outsiders get treated like Ragdolls. *EDIT!* I did see right after clicking out of this video the other day that this channel has more videos on the topic of sex trafficking and migrant women abuses in places like Dubai.

I assumed they are not getting any income from the standard of living they had so I was shocked to know that they do get the same scholarship! And I later witnessed that when they get better scholarships, they still share room 8 students a room and they used keep asking how could live alone?! they thought its too lonely and they used to invite me to their amazing food whenever we met at the lobby. I dont mean any offense, these were nice people, and I have always admired their maturity and ability to save for their bad days, thats something an Arab like myself cannot do. The point I am trying to make is that its hard to judge their employer from their living standards, you'd be shocked when you meet people with terrible living standard while having more money than you do. Stayed in a boys hostel in an older neighborhood, in Bur Dubai, full of coughing guests, but luckily didn't get sick since I was smart enough to keep my mask on throughout the entire stay. It also had a foul odor,, the whole time. Stayed for 17 nights. Only complaint was that it smelled foul every time I entered the building, but keeping my face mask on really helped. There were also constant gnats/fruit flies in the bathroom, but got used to it. There were no washer, only dryer, so i had to go to the laundromat nearby whenever I needed, which also led me to showering less often than usual. I'm the kind of person who usually have a scratchy scalp when i shower because of the colder weather, but thankfully for the constant humidity, it was non-existent.

It's pure, unbridled capitalism. The government and even the locals financing these projects don't have a direct say in the conditions of workers. There are also hundreds, maybe thousands of illegal housemaids from India, The Phillipines and other parts of South Asia as well as South East Asia. These maids (most of them young girls) were promised high pays and other benefits. Some of them were even tricked with the promise of working at Casinos, malls or restaurants.However, the reality is the opposite. They were flown into Dubai with tourist visas and as soon as they reached UAE, their passports were taken from them by the employment agencies. Then they were thrown into a kind of hostel where their phones were taken from them, blocking any contact with the outside world. They were presented in front of UAE residents in need of maids and these people known as employers, pick a girl and take them home for trial. If they don't like the girl they return them after 2-3 days. If they did keep them, these girls were forced to work for 2 years i.e the duration of the contract. They were not allowed to quit before completing their contract ie 2 years. Their passports were withheld during this period. So there is no way for them to escape. These girls were treated like commodities. They worked 18 hours a day and were treated like slaves. Many of them suffered physical, mental and even sexual abuse from their employers. Many of them were not fed properly. They were mostly given leftovers and some even go on days without food. Worst of all they were underpaid. Employment agencies usually took most of their hard earned money saying that they have to pay for so called loans (plane ticket, passport, transportation fees etc etc.) Even if these poor girls wants to go back to their countries (most of them wanted to go home), the employment agencies asked them to pay them the money they have spent on them (plane tickets etc) as well as the amount they would've made if they worked for 2 years. These girls are from poor households so of course they couldn't afford. They are stuck in this hell for years with no way out. The most heartbreaking part is that they went to this dazzling city Dubai, the land of luxury and skyscrapers in search for a better life and to provide for their families back home only to find out that it is hell on earth.

I remember stopping there on my first deployment back in '06. There were "black listed" areas that the ironically enough, pretty much everyone went directly towards and in one clothing store, I took a wrong door that appeared to be well hidden. When I went up the stairs, the entire upper area was a sweat shop. It was hot as hell up there and yes, the people looked very uncomfortable. That place was built on pain and suffering.

And Im one of those workers. They treat you as slaves working 12hours a day with 1 day off in a week. No sick days allowed, overtimed work is forced. Accomadation is provided but 6 people on bank beds in one room sharing one washroom and a kitchen. Its a slavery job i would say, no protection from laborers. If u complain no one ever listen to you. Lavish country but full of slavery and greed and racist. Not safe especially for foreign women. They dont treat you as equal. Dubai is a weird evil place. Your passport determines how much you make and it's very unfair. I learned about this company that hired graphic designers. The Indian graphic designer was paid $7,000 monthly, the Venezuelan around $13,000, and the English one $17,000. The Indian one had more experience but her passport meant she could not expect much.
@RexGalilae2 жыл бұрын
@@carlosorellana7685 It also comes down to cultural reasons. Indians are usually submissive workers who don't complain when overworked and paid less (or not at all), having escaped from poverty in their country Americans, on the other hand, are more assertive by nature, mindful of their rights and personal dignity. They can always stick the finger and move back to their country unless they're fairly compensated for working here In this regard, your passport determines how much you value yourself and how badly you want to live in Dubai

I used to go to Dubai every month to renew my visa to work in Saudi Arabia. I went to a bar for a cold beer and a tiny little Philippina about 4'8" came up to me and wouldn't leave. Then she started telling me she just got there that day. She was promised a good job as a maid and they took her passport when she landed. She looked terrified. She told me she had to do sex for money or she'd never be able to leave the country. I took her back to my hotel and told her to call whoever she needed to and tell them she was staying the night and I would pay for the whole night. I didn't want or try to have sex with her but I did pay her so she wouldn't get into trouble. She told me how horrible her treatment was when she handed them her passport. She went with me the next day to the airport and she was crying as I left her at the security checkpoint. I've always hoped she was able to escape. I would have flown her out myself if I could have. It was a horrible thing to witness and it's actually made me lose sleep.
