I was a follower of this man as an 11 year old boy. A friend of mine two years older than me had several of his books along with all kinds of insane ninja weapons that children our age should not have been in possession of... But it was 1983 and even in California you could order just about anything from martial arts magazines at the time. We trained, in full ninja outfits. We snuck around the neighborhood at night. We learned which houses had dogs and which did not. We hid from police spotlights behind small trees and in bushes... We were never caught. Truly invisible... Ahh, good times, thankfully we never got shot by a concerned homeowner... lol

As a teenager who was bullied, I came across his website when I found a random Wikipedia article about him. Wanting to defend myself, I downloaded some of his books from Ares since I couldn’t find them in bookstores in Mexico. I was fascinated by all those ninja tricks. Luckily I got more mature with time, but he gave some inspiration to start martial arts training which I still do after 18 years. It was funny to find him here 😂

What’s hilarious is that wrestling has been in schools for years and was overlooked as an actual effective martial art. Any 17 yr old high school competitive wrestler would put a hurting on adult body builders, adult construction workers, or most adults who do not train. People are still in denial that a high school wrestler would dominate the overweight old guys from The Sopranos (if they were real).

When I was barely a teenager, I happened upon one of this man's books, I believe it was "Secrets of the ninja". I must admit, I was very naive, but I wanted to believe soo much, that what I read was the truth. I finally saw this man for what he really was, when an actual ninjutsu school opened up, in my home town, and I pestered my parents to enroll me in the classes ( but that's another story). During my orientation period, I had mentioned that I owned and read books by Ashida Kim, and the look on my sensei's face said it all. Luckily my sensei was (still is) a kind, understanding and honorable man. He taught me to never follow anything blindly, and to question everything, even him, until the truth is found. And that there was nothing more dangerous, than a man who believes his own lies.

@@chessiny7882 You'll usually find they teach Japanese taijutsu, jujutsu techniques and alot of whats known to most as kobudo (ancient japanese weapons, though "kobudo" actually means ancient way of war or ancient ways, and is used as an umbrella term for any style, school or art that still follows the ancient practices). Basically unless you're in japan learning from the last known koga ryu grandmaster, you're getting a reconstruction of ninjutsu, authentic techniques, but a reconstruction nonetheless. Some do however teach the Buddhist meditations/seals that shinobi used, that's the hand signs you often see associated with ninja, those are legit, but are tied to Buddhism, or specifically Shinto-Buddhism

This takes me back to my pre-teen years in the early 1980's where me and my friends hung out at the local Army Surplus store....reading the latest "Soldier of Fortune" magazine and having mock ninja battles in the woods behind the strip mall. We had dreams of becoming ninjas....or mercenaries... All of us had the requisite Rambo knife (with the compass in the handle) and a variety of useless ninja weapons like throwing stars and nunchucks. It apparently didn't work out for us like it did for Ashida Kim here. Perhaps things would have been different if we read his books. 😂😂😂

I train Muay Thai, boxing, and BJJ, and we always get guys coming in thinking fighting is how they imagined it in their mind, or how they saw on dragon ball Z. Some guys really think it’s about going as hard as you can, using the flashiest kicks and spins, about “charging up” for the right punch, thinking that a certain “crane/tiger” fighting style will be effective. The best is when these guys say “I don’t care how long you trained, I will seriously mess you up when I get angry and go all out” Those same dudes can barley last 2 5-minute sparring rounds.

The actual origins of the vanishing act, involving holding a towel or blanket up to then disappear, started with Ashida Kim. Don't believe me? Call your pet over, stand in a doorway, hold blanket up, run out of sight before the blanket hits the floor. Now watch the absolute amazement and confusion on your pets face! This does not work on a Sentry or fully grown human. As such, this is why the pebble trick came into play and has been an effective tool for all those sentry encounters you come across in day to day life.

I have heard of his invisibility technique....As I heard it the way of his invisibility power is as he put it a matter of spacial distortion .....He literally uses a means of manipulating distance between himself and his opponent that he wishes to remain invisible to.....To perform this mystical feat he uses the ancient and infallible tactic of placing distance between him and his target ...For example if his target happens to be in a specific location he stealthily places himself a greater distance from his target like on the opposite side of town thus rendering him completely invisible to said target...The man is no joke ... These powers take years to master and according to him he's one of the greatest.....That's all I needed to hear...Damn...I heard of this 40 years ago and I to this day can't figure out how he does some of this stuff ! ..You all saw the levitation right ?.....The Hoola Hoop ?....C'mon let's see any of you all do that !

Back in my younger days when I was in Ultra Special Forces (a unit classified above Top Secret, but I can talk about it on the internet) we would train with Sensei Kim for 18 hours a day every day for a month. He'd weed out the weaklings. If you couldn't handle Sensei, you sure couldn't handle missions on Mars with Major Ed Dames. I can't count the times hula hoop levitation saved me in anti-alien combat.

I'm pretty sure that I've read a few of his books that I bought from a store called Asian World of Martial Arts in Chicago about 1983. At 13 tears old we bought our throwing stars Bali song knives and of course the Ninja split tow shoes and cleats for climbing. I'm just going to say this about the art of invisibility. To this day 40 years later I'm still sneaking up on people in wide open spaces in broad daylight. Oh, you scared me, when did you get here, damn you're stealthy, etc. I'm constantly "sneaking up on people". At 15 I was actually referred to as that ninja guy. My best friend and I had a group of guys after us in High School and whenever they'd get him cornered I'd pop up out of nowhere. A couple times of this and that's what they called me, and left us alone. There was also the time I "played dead" another technique learned and the nurse for my H.S. physical could not get my pulse or blood pressure. Something my mother did not appreciate or think was as funny as I did. You can also pass a lie detector with that same technique. There is a little truth in all bullshit.

@@oni_goroshi That school has a pretty shady origin. Their "sacred texts" seem to be bogus. The guy Raijuko is talking is not a grandmaster or anything, but he's pretty honest about his induction on his craft and he has proven to know a lot about, so much that he curates an actual museum. Also, he neither created a multimillonaire franchise to fool people believing they can be ninjas in XXI century.

I know exactly who would buy these books. I used to know a VERY friendly guy, but he had a difficult childhood and was genuinely a bit stupid. After years of substance abuse (and lack of care from authorities), he began connecting dots that weren't even in the same book. He had heard "humans only use a tiny fraction of their brains" and "MA can unleash powers hidden within you", so of course he connected the two. He did attend an actual MA course, but had no money to continue. However, he "felt the energy" after his regular warm up practices (carry your groceries to the 4th floor and you feel the same energy), so he decided to go online to learn all the truths about MA. Oh boy. Eventually he learned how to read other people's minds. No kidding. One time he tried to read a woman's mind, but she just looked at him funny, said "I can do that too" and apparently blocked his attempt. He was 100% convinced of his new found powers at this point. Well, in reality he was just staring at people with a very stupid/aggressive face. The woman clearly meant "I can look at you funny too", *not* "I can read your mind and block you." I carefully brought this up, but he knew better. After many years of friendship, followed by years of tolerance, that's when I cut all connections. He's probably still chasing miracles by following some fake gurus.
