I grew up in Edinburgh. Charlie was a few years older than me, but me and all my pals knew him - he worked for the "California Coffee Company" (a police box coffee house) for a good couple of years, I believe before he went to university. And we used to visit it every morning and most afternoons, so I spoke to him just about everyday for a few years until he disappear one summer... He used to get into silly arguments with us (he was 16/17, we were 13/14), but he was always a relatively friendly guy, if quite irratic. And he made a good Mocha. He just used to make silly comments about us being "rich kids"... Until of course we found out he was in exactly the same socio-economic situation as us, if not way richer. He also used to ask us our political persuations etc, to which obviously we would laugh and take the p out of him as we were just kids with no care or even knowledge of real politics at that point. And he would call us idiots... But it was always banter really tbh. He was friendly plenty of the time, if very opinionated. I have been watching his channel since the start (scary prospect tbh), and I honestly can't make my mind up about him. Sometimes, I think he is genuine, and he just has this type of personality - he has certainly never been a shy man. But he is also pretty narcissistic, comfortable with lying (why I bought up the money stuff) and very intelligent. So other times, I think that at some point during his time in the city he was "approached", as they say. It's only really since lockdown that his channel has charted the kind of numbers that would give him the ability to live comfortably from it. Yet he has seemingly lived comfortably this whole time... Like over a decade and after "adpocalypse"... And of course he spent the entirety of that lockdown time flaunting the rules (don't get me wrong, F the government for that), without any problem whatsoever. He has unquestionable ties to the upper escelons of media, politics and business (via his father, upbringing, early career and youtube fame), is completely comfortable kicking people to the floor in the middle of the street in central Manchester, gets transported out of the city by the police, at his request, after instigating conflict in the street and generally acts as if completely untouchable whilst largely being the driving force behind the negative interactions that happen. And they ALWAYS happen, as if he seemingly knows absolutely everything going on in Manchester, at the right time, every day of the year... And of course the alledged stuff about his ex and children being potentially covered up by GMP. Aaaand the fact that he has made a complete political and economic 180 in most cases. He very nicely fits the bill of an actual agent provocateur. And could easily have found himself in a situation in his early city life where the option to become one presented itself to him. But he also might just simply love being a provocateur for its own sake, and the rest is just pure coincidence. I genuinely can't decide.

I don't like him. However, on occasion, channels like his perform a public service in showing us reality, rather than the polished and fake content they try to programme people with, on the TV. This is part of the reason why KZbin is popular. Without conflict and controversy, you get no views. He understands this. Fundamentally, the reason he is able to act in this way goes deeper than possible sociopathy or narcissism or both. He doesn't see people as equal (which is probably fair). He doesn't believe he is of the same species as us. What formed him appears to have been his university and banking experience. He is taller, he doesn't look like average people, and he has a couple of higher points in IQ. If you have this combo (but, especially, are tall) you don't *need* socialisation (to get resources or a mate), but you can *use* socialisation to your advantage when manipulating others' emotions. Politicians have that mindset as well. In his mind, his interactions are on a par with toying with pigeons rather than members of the same species as him. He has truly internalised a belief that he's a cut above.

Why is it that politicians and everyone with at least 90 IQ can avoid making a fool of themselves on camera when CV provokes them? One example which this video didn't mention is that he got caught filming a 14 year old girl on a train that kept on asking him to stop, and he wouldn't. She became upset and rightly agitated, and when she tried walking away he followed her, hurling abuse at her because she hurt his fragile ego. He framed his assault (think it was in Burnley if I remember rightly) as him being attacked, and claimed he lost the footage, but it later turned out he instigated everything & hid the footage. There's a lot that goes on behind the camera that never makes it to his KZbin channel, and nowadays his channel is only propped up by those that share his similar traits, which causes a viscious cycle. I worked at a State Hospital for many years, so spending time around mentally ill individuals isn't particularly intimidating. I'd never harass someone on the street, so anyone who indicates that they don't want to talk to me, I'd simply walk away. In all honesty, I have had many fascinating conversations with people who may have initially appeared to be frightening, but approaching them with kindness and talking to them like they are actual human beings goes a long way towards breaking the ice in a way that can start meaningful dialog.

I'm really glad to hear that. I spent time inside of them as a "troubled teen" (mentally ill mother who basically drove me to be reckless to escape the madness at home), and then spent time with them when I lived on the streets as an adult for 7ish years, as an addict for some of that time, so I have had many friends with debilitating mental illnesses that still deserve the connection and attention that any human deserves, but they often lack. I am interested in psychology, specifically abnormal psychology as well, and have firsthand experience with the disconnect within society that further alienates sufferers from society and exacerbates their problems. Any and all genuine connection is an important role to play as an individual to make a positive impact on someone's day or week. Most of these people DO have valuable things to say, and I try to go into interactions with people on the same level whether they're a businessman or junkie. I expect that I will learn or come away with something from that conversation with that person, and I always do. ☺️ glad to hear about the small acts of humanity in an increasingly disconnected world!

Well, instead of just following along unquestioningly with the glib generalizations, I spent a few hours yesterday watching Charlie’s content. To say that the negative reaction is ridiculously overblown is an understatement, as almost all of his content involves documenting the societal degradation in the UK…which is undeniably occurring at an alarming rate. It’s understandable that he’s changed his political views, given that the world has changed so dramatically over a very brief period of time. Regarding the accusations of ex partners…well, they’re ex’s for a reason, and women are notorious for making false accusations as a matter of course. So, after watching many hours of his content, I found it engaging, as the western world truly is going down the shitter, and his observations about why this is occurring are accurate assessments of this reality. Compared to other content out there, Charlie’s is pretty tame by comparison.

The difference between CCTV cameras evreywhere filming you, and a youtuber filming you (should be obvious but anyway) is the footage of you when caught on CCTV is stored for a short time then deleted, and even if kept, is only seen by very few official data handlers. Footage for youtube will put your viasge up for anyone to see. Not everyone wants their ugly, fat or insecure a55 displayed for all to see on the internet. But laws are laws.
