I've been receiving significant electrical/line noise here at the shack. Maybe you can tell me what it is, or share a story where you've fixed a similar noise? Short of eliminating the source, what can we do to minimize unwanted interference? Let's look at the three "N's" of ham radio. Noise Reduction, Noise Blanking and Notch.

Using the edges of the band pass filter is another way to block out unwanted signal as well. Great Video 73

My guess is that its coming from the grid power lines. Something like a loose connector or a cracked insulator. If so, then take a portable cheap AM radio and walk / drive up and down your street while listening for the strongest noise level. For further attenuation if needed, wrap the AM radio with foil and leave one corner of the radio exposed. Then if you can locate the source within a few telephone poles, take a sledge hammer and start smacking the telephone poles. This sets up vibration up and down the pole. When you smack the offending pole, you should hear the noise flutter in and out. Once you find the problem area call the power company - but don't tell them about the sledge hammer! They will be glad you told them and will come out to fix it.

My washer motor puts off a weird noise across all bands. Goes for 15 seconds pauses for 3-4 seconds and then back. It's pause is when it's changing directions during wash cycle. It's front loader washer.

Long press on the NB and NR and change the levels. (I think the 7300 has this)

grounding that electric fence thus making it just a fence will stop noise too and make its owner mad

An RDF can help you find the item the is making the noise, you can make one! The noise sounds like an AC transformer on a powerline near you. K6DCH, Dave

Pull the main on your entire house. If it stays, it ain't you. You've walked around so call the power company. Or if you have good neighbors, have them shut down their houses too. Always ask your local club if they have someone with test equipment that has sniffed some out before.

Do you have any common mode chokes. If this so wide band I would add one to your antenna and radio to see if it reduces.

Try: 1:1 line isolator x2 (one at antenna, one at radio)
