When using holes already in the van for those metal nuts, what's the trick to locating them onto the 1/2" ply? I'm thinking a drop of paint and press the wood against the nut? Thanks.

Perfect! Loved seeing the birch wood finish! Light and bright - not same olds white! Love the solution for the passthrough to the cab - brilliant! Shocked to see at the end of the video the birch was painted over. Agree w/ solution to make sure wood is not piece mealed together and to make sure the grain is all running the same way. Would have loved to see a final birch finish. Gives it such a modern bright feel!

Man, I so wish I could be like you - just doing whatever is needed to be done, just figuring out whatever is needed to be figured out. Life could be so interesting and fun when one's body, especially the brain, is healthy, and/or was not damaged by say vaccines like in my and some others' people's cases. But I didn't lose hope, I hope chelating the heavy metals will help me quite a bit (if it won't, well I don't even want to think about if it won't...) Thank you so much for these videos. SO MUCH. I wish you the best, my friend. 🤝

Outstanding build. Really love your videos. I am considering using extruded aluminum for the structure, bed and cabinets in build to save weight. I know it will cost more but I can also work in the wood look and feel on panels. Thanks again for your effort on the videos.

Nice bed design, appears removable I see for each horizontal beam there is a small wood piece on each wall that supports the cross beam. Looking closer at 5:25 it looks like you've got some steel brackets helping support the cross beams.

Love your videos! Rattled and squeaks are my pet peeves, so my build will focus on this. I will test drive for rattles as each little bit gets installed. Fortunately, my build will be minimalistic for weekending and camping, but not for living. Sort of a bed on wheels with a few additional features. I have a question for you. My bed platform will go in low because I will have full windows. Do you think the sheet metal walls and plus nuts are strong enough to support a bed and two adults without additional floor support? It would be nice to keep it entirely off the floor. You put in floor support, so I’m guessing the sheet metal wasn’t strong enough at the elevated level of your bed. Mine will install below the window line where there is more metal and a nice row of plus-nut-sized holes in the Transit. Looking forward to your suggestion. Thanks.

Moser, could you briefly touch on attaching your cabinets to the framing? I tried deducing it from the video but I couldn’t tell the exact fastening method. Screws/bolts into wood furring only, bolts into van metal, French cleat? Thank you for your highly informative videos!

Hey Moser, I'm in the process of building a van similar to yours. I will likely be using Sande plywood for the framing but am hoping to use Baltic birch for the cabinetry and bed. Because none of my local stores carry baltic birch i was wondering if you could give me a rough idea/starting point for how many 4'x8 sheets of Baltic birch you used for the build?'

Hey Sam, did you give any consideration to using an exterior grade plywood? The guy at my local lumber yard recommended I use exterior baltic birch or marine grade hydrotek for my build to ensure it stands up to the automotive environment of road vibrations and condensation. Curious if you thought about this at all and have any thoughts. Thanks!

@@MoserMakes building out my 2017 Transit....when I get the plus nuts, should I order the proprietary rivet setting tool to set the plus nuts? I have heard people having loose plus nuts, and thinking they just screwed in the retaining bolt to provide the expansion tension. What did you do? Thanks for your awesome video series. My wife and I have watched most of them together and we both agree that you have the mind of a great mechanical engineer. Pat in Sandpoint

Lol, while I can appreciate the wood working skills, you are putting a lot of unnecessary weight to the van. Although your choice of wood is very good quality, it is totally not suitable for van built. When you want to go to dry land for boondocking or try to go to Arizona BLM dry desert land for couple weeks or Go to Burning man, you will wish you have extra weight capacity to carry more water. Lighter van also easier to drive and your engine and shock won't suffer. One of the biggest regret many van builders had was to use materials that are too heavy. Every 2nd, 3rd builds always use much lighter materials.
