Just ordered a set of Petrel plans and a robo-bevel. I'm looking forward to getting started on my own project! Thanks for providing these videos to show us how it's done!

Awesome. I'm torn between the Petrel and the Guillemot for my first kayak build.

It is so amazing to see the thoughts going into every little details here. Such an amazing work! I am currently building my very first kayak (videos in my channel, they are in German but with subtitles mostly) and your videos are a great inspiration. To be fair, I am lightyears away from your perfection.

Excellent video as ever! Is there a reason not to complete the coaming ring before doing the inside? It seems different from your previous build videos
@NickSchade4 жыл бұрын
It can be a little bit easier to do the final glassing of the coaming while the deck is still off the hull. But, I do things differently every time I build.

It looks like you install the skeg box a little off center. What's is the reason for this?
@petermelnikov6823 жыл бұрын
to reduce the wear due to abrasion when pulling a kayak out of water and also to reduce amount of sand and debris going inside the skeg box. Nick mentions that in one of his videos I believe.

I always feel a bit sick to my stomach cutting hatches.

FWIW, I would not put hatches in this beautiful boat. Aesthetically a step backwards, and structurally maybe as well.
