The Intermediate period in Labrador spans from approximately 3500-1800 years B.P. Sites from this time period have been recorded within the Hamilton Inlet, inland, and along the coast. While many sites have been recovered, not much research has been undertaken to better understand the Intermediate period. One significant Intermediate period site, FjCa-51, is the focus of both my MA and PhD research. Archaeological site FjCa-51 is located in the Innu community of Sheshatshiu, Labrador and excavations started in 2009 at the request of the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation. My research at this site aims to create a better understanding of the Intermediate period through lithic analysis, residue analysis, and discussing the time period within the larger Transitional period of the Atlantic Northeast.
