I am really going crazy , I have had my babies for almost 5 years and al of a sudden I started seeing the gold color fading and scales falling off sunken in behind the head and a sunken belly stringy white poo. I had treated with salt and bacteria and fungi and still I have lost 3 fish in the past 2 months. I'm going to have to treat my whole tank. My 2 koi and 2 African featherfins seem fine but my sarrasas are dieing. Thank you for your videos I was so lost and you again saved the swimming Angels. These fish are the best for mental health and I bring people that I know need help and have them just sit in front of my tank and watch the fish . My fish LOVE attention and love when people are watching them. Its like they put on a show for whoever is in front of the tank. I have sat in a chair everyday and hand fed them for over 4 years and they are truly part of the family and in our dining room when we eat they eat at the same time .

Kev I’ve been dealing with an issue for about a month now or a little longer. It’s my fault cause I didn’t quarantine a fish I brought home cause I’m like this one looks super healthy, I’m good. Stupid rookie move. Long story short, one of the first fish I had gotten started flashing on objects in the tank. She would go sideways and like yeet herself. By the end of the night, I seen like 2 more doing it. I started to look it up and it was saying either ick or flukes. I tried the saltwater thing for like two days and noticed more were doing it. I decided to just treat the entire tank (10 gallon tropical freshwater fish about 10 of them at the time). I tried API gen cure as directed, nothing happened. Tried again, nothing. Got prazipro and my corys I thought were freaking out so I panicked and did a water change about two hours later. I said I needed a bigger tank. Got a bigger one watched more of your videos got some seachem prime and stress got the tank started beneficial bacteria and put the fish that looked better into the tank and kept the 4 that looked worse in the old one to keep and medicate. The others looked better and I continued to medicate the last group. Appetites have always been good. I removed decode that they could flash and hurt themselves on. After a week they seemed to be doing ok. I moved them to the new big tank and they seemed happier but still keep flashing along with a few of the others occasionally. I’ve even tried coppersafe and have it in now hoping it might help. The one that started it has some lesions near her gills from her flashing. I put some api bacterial stuff in to help I think it’s natural cause it smells like tea tree oil. I seen like two others that have some lesions like that too by their gills but not as bad as hers. I’m out of ideas and I don’t have a vet near me that specializes in fish. I don’t want to lose them either and am really worried. Any advice? 🙏 thanks!

I would treat with ParaGuard, Metroplex and KanaPlex!!

@@brittniebeeman2833 thanks for replying. Sadly I’ve lost 4 last week after I wrote this and I’ve got one trying hard to hang in for the last three days. I’m starting to wonder if this is a different type of gill fluke that’s needs a different. Edification or if it is resistant to. Most kinds. I e tried adding gen cure to the food to get it in their system as well. Worked for the first two feedings then they caught on….even did the garlic powder trick 🤦♀️

My pleasure! If they only have the stringy poop but are still eating good, and no sunken belly, I wouldnt medicate. They could just be adjusting to the food you're feeding. Remember the white stringy poop is just 1 of a few signs....Hold of on the meds for now as long as they're still eating well.

Good advice except for the hospital tank in my opinion only. The only reason I say that is by the time 1 fish shows symptoms is safe to assume multiple fish in the tank may have it so I just treat the whole tank. Metroplex isn’t too harsh and even Scaleless fish can handle it with no problem. Normally it’s not good to dose what’s not there but in this case with metroplex and focus as well as api general cure is pretty safe to dose the community. Also after doing this for the 5 day period look for any food with probiotics in the food itself and finish up with that. In my mind this replenishes the bacteria they have growing naturally in there digestive tract to help digestion as I feel the metroplex does eliminate this from there system, not in its entirety but to some degree.

I use this same mix except I use pure Metronidazole instead of Metroplex. Metroplex takes way too long. Also I talked to Seachem and they said that new test have shown that a 1:1 ratio of Metroplex and Focus is sufficient. They are starting to put this mixture ratio on the newer bottles. The pure Metronidazole takes only about 3 to 5 days depending on the severity of the parasites. Metroplex can take up to 3 weeks. So to everyone I would suggest pure Metronidazole as it is way more effective and is cheaper than the Metroplex.
@KaveManAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info. The focus does tend to disappear quickly with the 5-1 ratio. I will be calling Seachem as well to confirm. Straight metronidazole can be hard to get for some viewers while metroplex is easily accessible.

Kev, Thank you for having the best “how to” videos on aquarium and fish keeping. You are my go to guy for all fish and aquarium tips, tricks and treatments. I haven’t owned fish in 30 plus years or so but now my 5 year old daughter Ava had a fascination with them and so doing things like I do, we went from a single goldfish she won at the fair to a 5 gallon, then 10 gallon and now a 75 gallon fresh water tank. 🤦! Anyways, Dude, you are down to earth, easy to follow and direct and to the point which I appreciate! Our Cichlids are 2- blood parrots and named ( Mustard and Mayonnaise). and 2- Tiger Oscars are (Jelly and Peanut Butter). 😎 Too cute coming from a 5 year old man! Thank you Kev and keep these videos coming! Now I get to treat internal parasites in one of our Oscars (Jelly). I literally just got into this hobby and you my man, has helped me A TON!!! thank you. I did have a question tho, do you disinfect the tank after the medication?
@KaveManAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Thanks bro, glad you’re enjoying the channel! No need to disinfect anything with this method of feeding meds. Some meds, when used in the water, do need to be removed with carbon.

Seachem has changed their concentration levels. Use a 1:1 ratio of metro and focus as stated on their new packaging** i saw this today :( at my second day of treatment.Thanks by the way maybe u can put a note in the video when u use 5:1 ratio focus with metro.. Thanks bro

The update to the ratio is noted in the videos description.

Love the vids man. So how often do you medicate? Conflicting info with Metro. Website says feed daily and the actual bottle doesn’t say. When it talks about treating the water it says every other day. Thanks Kev.
@KaveManAquatics4 жыл бұрын
I dont remember what the package says...But when I did medicate, mixed in food, I did it every day for about 2 weeks. That did the trick

I like your vids, and your presentation style. Lots of people swear by Metro, but I haven’t experienced positive outcomes. Although I have not been soaking as long as you suggested(I usually soaked for 2-3min). But I will try your suggestions, and see if theres a difference. Be well
@KaveManAquatics4 жыл бұрын
reginald barometre Thanks! Appreciate the comment, definitely soak it for longer. Remember these pellets are formed with intense heat for maximum dryness. Give it more time and you’ll see the difference of how much liquid they can absorb.

Hi Kev, "Lets Go". 😄😄. I'm a subscriber. I love your videos because they are easy to follow and understand. They are very informative as well. I have 2 Tetra fish that are not eating and I don't see any long white stringy poop coming from them. There are no signs of Ick either. The pink one is very active but the blue one spends a lot of time at the bottom of the tank hiding. The blue one has also become very pale in color with sunken belly. He will swim around at times. So I saw one of your videos on why your fish have stopped eating. You said to change the brand of food, I did to a more vitamin riched food with smaller pellets. I also ordered Seachem Metroplex and Seachem Focus. As for the Seachem Garlic Guard do you recommend using fresh garlic juice?? Also saw another of your videos saying that I can treat the whole tank, I only have those 2 fish anyway for now. You also mentioned Epsom Salt mixture can be added to tank as well with these above named products. How often do I do water changes if any and for how many days do I treat???

Thank you so much 💖 we're just starting out with our guppies and we lost 3 so far (1 before we had chance to name him, Jacque, and Shadow). Got medicine on route so we can try and save Jack, Mom (it's the school hols), and Mello 🤞💖

Thanks for the info, Question for you. How often should I be doing water changes while doing this? I have subscribed to your site as well!
@KaveManAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing!! This method is medicating the food, so just stick to your normal water change schedule. It wont have any effect since the fish are actually eating the meds.

Great vid! I've heard if you let it dry the medication will bond to the food better? Thoughts?? I'm told to keep it refrigerated to avoid molding.
@KaveManAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Thats correct, the longer you let it sit it will bond better. And if you’re prepping enough for multiple days then yes refrigerating is key 👍
