It would be very helpful if any one can explain the procedure with route map from international arrivals S gates to baggage collection to Passport Control to again recheck to catch domestic flights like Alaska Airlines. New flyers especially old people can appreciate a lot.

Basically it is just what you’ve seen, but you keep right after passport control, follow signs for transfer. Then there are Alaska and Delta desks on the right hand side to recheck bags. There’s a security check after these desks. Then just follow signs to your gate.

Las Vegas is the only other airport in the United States that has a unique satellite terminal. Back in 1998, the airport opened a satellite concourse (D Gates) which was the largest in the United States at the time and had 4 wings in an X-shape. This concourse was linked by an airport subway to Terminal 1 (with an additional subway to Terminal 3 opening in 2012). In order to accommodate an expanding number of international travelers, the northeast side of the satellite terminal had several of its gates converted to international gates in 2017, and those gates are linked to the customs facility in Terminal 3 by an underground pedestrian walkway that is only usable by passengers arriving on international flights.

Definitely an improvement over the dungeon, but the space still seems cramped and not designed well. Plus that’s a lot of walking!

I find it somewhat unconventional that the passport control is AFTER baggage claim. Is this normal in US airports for international arrivals?

It's experimental. The only other airport that does this is Austin's International Airport. Everywhere else has the traditional immigration before customs.

San Diego is bags first. Tulsa will be bags first. Kansas city will (or now is bags first). St Louis is bags first. CBP is slowly rolling out bags first for all new International processing facilities.
