- What is the annual baggage handling capacity? - 1100 Burj Khalifa

A little underwhelming. Starting from the tediously long intro, to the used baggage tag, to the abrupt ending. I was expecting more from the BBC.
@chiuwong40576 күн бұрын
problem with conventional TV programme, not directly to the point, too much "performance" by the host.
@Michelle_Schu-blacka3 ай бұрын
They didn't show the part where baggage handlers literally hurl your luggage into containers. But creating the system with all the mechanics, electronics and software seems like it would be unbelievably boring. I wouldn't want to work for the company that built it, especially not the ones who had to write the software. It feels like one of those programmes that in theory, you could hack out in five minutes, but definitely wouldn't and the fine tuning and debugging would do your head in.
@kimsmoke173 ай бұрын
What they also don’t show is when the X-ray operator sees something valuable in your bag. Their team can steal that item in seconds, and put it back on the conveyor, without impacting the scan rate.
@waryaawariiri18122 ай бұрын
What exactly are you complaining about? Automation is a necessity and is part of human productivity and changes. They also lower airport fees that are levied to airlines that land there. In theory, it lowers ticket prices. Tickets cost far more in decades past than they are now.

@@muraliramakrishnan7648 A depressingly long time ago when I was in primary school, I taught myself programming on a BBC Basic because halfway through the final year, the teachers had run out of school work that they could give me. For years, my life was electronics and programming. Maybe it was because I found out there was more to life, specifically raves, drugs and alcohol, which covered up a lot of issues and childhood trauma. Even then, I'd come home absolutely wasted and start fiddling about with electronics. I did try to go back to engineering but we'd both moved on.

They X-ray it. If something looks valuable they remove it from your bag. If your lucky your bag ends up on your flight, otherwise it shows up where you are staying a couple days later, otherwise you’ll get your bag back after you get home, after anything of value has been removed.

Why so short? Is this supposed to be a trailer? If, mark it as such. Could have gone into lots of details about the processing, lost luggage, how the suitcase ends up on the wrong flight etc. would rate 2 out of ten as currently done, but could have been so much more interesting.

As an engineer on this machinery, I can tell you it's not Western technology at all. The computers are a combination of Japanese and Taiwanese hardware running using Malaysian infrastructure. Other countries have smaller systems in New York and Heathrow. However, this one is far more advanced because of how it was mandated by the UAE government. Any questions?
