It depends on which Asian country you’re referring to. In many Asian countries, children are expected to help their parents, but most parents have a livelihood and primarily expect their children to take care of them when they grow old. On the other hand, Filipino families often go beyond this, with children being expected to support their siblings and even extended family members, sometimes to the point where they become financial leeches. It has always been the case. Pathetic

Don't be ridiculous. He said, she said. She is young and naive. He is saying he was willing to pay for her school and did not have to pay him back, and that her mother demanded she not go to school because she wanted her to keep sending money home. She is saying she was supposed to pay him back. She is a defendant, she will say anything to make him look bad. You have no concept of human trafficking. They don't marry the victims, they bring them to the US, set them up in apartments in as many bunk beds as they can cram into a bedroom 6 people to a room, tell them they have to pay for their passage, food, rent, and indenture them for life, putting them to work at a couple bucks and hour, cleaning houses, washing dishes. They don't marry them, and they sure as hell don't risk exposure by suing a victim.

In many other parts of the world, sending support to family is expected and not something you can comfortably say no to. I've seen more recent cases where JJ seems to understand that more and commends the litigant, instead of trying to tell them, "it's not your responsibility". Yeah it's a good thing you're not a judge because you'd have to adhere to the ACTUAL law rather than your "feelings". The young woman is a WOMAN of legal age. You can dream up that she's a child but she's legally an adult. If you don't like that then you need to lead a campaign to change the age of legal adulthood, not expect that the law can be bent to suit your personal sensibilities.

That’s because the marriage is in the United States, which is Western. It would be different if he got married in the Philippines, and he was living in the Philippines. They live in America so you have to go by Western family culture and laws. I’m really surprised there are so many people in the comment section who are struggling with this basic fact.

This young lady reminds me of my ex-wife from the Philippines. Young lovely the mind and maturity of a 5-year-old. The family wanted to cash in on the marriage he wouldn't play ball.

And this old man reminds me of aging creeps who want to buy their way into bed with young women, and they know the easiest way to do so is through a magazine.

Judge Judy would take care of her family just like this woman tried to. Its just that this woman had to get married TO TAKE CARE OF HER FAMILY. Judge Judy understands the cultural differences, and she also understands loyalty to family. She is just being inappropriately prejudiced, as she is wont to do....

This is a cultural difference. In the Asians cultures, the kids help look after the family.
