We all knew 2Scoops was going to take it, but none of us realised just how close it was going to be with Paul literally just behind him, and he did it with an injury AND by starting 1.5 seconds behind him! He couldve taken it himself. Probably the only competition 2Scoops really. had. Superb episode of Gladiators!

The main reason why the following season Glads from the same countries as the contenders completely missed the show was the crap the Americans pulled this season. Jazz gifting Adrienne Sullivan 10 points on Suspension Bridge while Hawk and Sabre took out Wesley's opponents on Powerball. In the Semi Final Sabre hurt Phil Norman's knees with a dangerous tackle and in the Final Hawk hurt Paul Field's ribs. Not to mention that Larry the American referee handled the situation with Paul's injury very poorly. Wesley was the rightful winner and he made zero mistakes here, I won't take that away from him. But like Sachs said, on another day, Paul might have beat him.

Looking back at where Two-Scoops gained points over Paul makes you realize just how the men's eliminator was on such a knife-edge. A 12-point differential in Powerball and a fortunate win in Duel with a gladiator who had no balance on his podium? A better Duel opponent would have parried what looked like a weak attack from Wesley. You have to assume the eliminator was shown in real time and that there was only 1.5 seconds between them at the end. Who knows what would have happened if Paul had been at peak fitness for the eliminator.
@Will-h7h2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that must have been Paul's fastest eliminator easily as he was only a few seconds behind
@mrmacross2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the Eliminator finish was in real time. Wesley broke through the barrier at 46:36, and you can see in the background that Paul hadn't climbed to the top of the travelator platform yet. When Paul grabs the rope to swing to the barrier at 46:37, Wesley already is out of the picture. It takes about 1 second to swing across from the platform through the barrier, so if Paul was going to lose by 1.5 seconds then he'd have to be on top of the platform by the time Wesley crossed the barrier. Also, Wesley starts down the zipline at about 46:18, Paul around 46:22, so Wesley extended his lead to about 3.5 seconds. Take into further consideration that Wesley had the footspeed advantage, so it's really unlikely that Paul would've cut into Wesley's lead by running up the travelator a couple seconds faster that Wesley. I think Paul's eliminator time was probably around 53-55 seconds, which would've been his personal best. It would've beaten almost any other contender and is an amazing time for someone with cracked ribs. Still, I honestly think they shaved those couple of seconds off the video to make the final look more dramatic.
@bobomb19862 жыл бұрын
@@mrmacross Seems a bit devious for them to do that. Hmm. Sad.
@Costas22 Жыл бұрын
@@bobomb1986 They've done it before. When they aired the Ashes Final of 1996, they showed Mark Everitt finishing the Eliminator right after the Aussie guy who beat him. But when we saw the show that aired on Australian tv, we saw Mark stopping before the Travellator to fix his shoelaces. Odds are Paul Field's final run here was edited as well.

This was the only time Dynamite didn't do his famous salute during the Gladiator introduction (in the following year, they added the salute to the title sequence). I also noticed that only Eunice and Paul wore chest protectors during the Gauntlet (speaking of Gauntlet, unofficial Yellow Card at 10:42). I wonder why even the British Glads didn't wear their chest protectors, or why they didn't have "regular" chest protectors for everyone else.

Why oh why couldn't they had put Falcon and Scorpio in Gauntlet for this final, they way they put Trojan and Saracen in.
