Hello Diane! Thank you so much for posting this informative video. I am very interested in the dual degree in Peth, Australia at the Western University, and they offer a dual degree in International Relations and International Law. I have gained a bachelor degree in Business & Entrepreneurship and Applied Psychology. Is it still possible for me to become a good International Lawyer even with no previous education in Law? I want to eventually somehow get involved in (eliminating) the blasphemy Law in South East Asia and the Middle East.
@DianaCon4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rubi, you have an interesting academic background which undoubtedly can contribute being an extraordinary international lawyer. The topic you are seeking to concentrate can be approached in number of ways such as advocacy, NGO's, policy paper, UN, raising awareness, academia etc Which of all these options do you see your self in? All the best. Diana

@@DianaCon Thank you for replying to my question. I have definitely considered working in the UN or non-profit organizations such as Amnesty International or even Aljazeera. The only thing that pulls me back from the UN or other big organizations is the bureaucracy that could mess with my "innocent view" of the world. Will, I ever achieve peace in societies working with big organizations or should I consider launching my own NGO one day? I feel that my world view will change once I start getting involved with cooperations. Then I look up to a company like Patagonia and I am amazed by how focused and righteous they act, which gives me hope that staying true to honesty and righteousness can indeed be successful.

Hello, dear Diana, I am Memmed, I am from Azerbaijan. I am a PhD student in international law in Turkey. However, I have a bachelor's degree in history. So far, I have written analytical articles on international criminal law, law of armed conflicts and international human rights law in various think-tanks in Turkey. I am also a researcher in a university project called ‘Interactive Role of Regional Human Rights Systems in Interpreting Human Rights’. I want to become an international law lawyer, but this is a big problem as my undergraduate degree is in history. How can I overcome this problem? I would be very happy if you could help me. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi! I am going to graduate from high school next year (2021) and I plan on applying to law school, I just wanted to know what is the difference between international law and international relations since I have been torn between the two career fields. Is there any major difference?
@DianaCon4 жыл бұрын
Happy and exciting times are ahead of you :) I may speak for international law, which the application of law where there is a dispute or human right violation. An international lawyer must comprehend international relation dynamics. Look for example the ISIS case that currently received UN resolution and a committee was mandated to deal with it. This would not have been possible if the lawyers did not appreciate the global dynamic of this endeavour.

Hello! What is your opinion on straightaway doing a Bachelor in International Law? (Like in the Netherlands, Groningen&Maastricht) - since it’s not particular to any jurisdiction, do you think it would be more difficult to practice law?
@DianaCon3 жыл бұрын
It is difficult regardless, so the true way of pursuing international law is the ability to justify, on your own terms, why and how you did what you did. I once met a lawyer that used his supermarket/cashier work experience in an interview for tenancy at chambers. They took him on board.

Dear Vidhi, thank you so much for joining this humble community. You shall firstly get your law degree, qualify in your country as a lawyer and get experience (domestic law). This will open the doors for your International practice unless you apply for international institutions such as UN, tribunals where there are many graduate schemes. If you need more information i can only assist if you book a legal session.

Will it be possible to become an international lawyer without a Law background? Want to mention here that i am taking a lot of Law related courses and reading different articles/studentbook and etc.

Dear Ekaterina, thank you so much for your kind words. If you wish to become an international human rights lawyer then you will need to address and build upon legal thinking, which can be technical. Of course let us not forget the procedural law as well. Thus, i would say that you do need to have law degree or a conversion from a qualified institution. I hope this answers to your questions, if not please dm on instagram to discuss over legal session that are paid sessions which last about an hour. All the best, Diana

is it possible to do law in china and become a lawyer in that country if you are a foreigner ?
@DianaCon3 жыл бұрын
Dear Aurora, you will have to check the website of China's Lawyers Bar Association and see how restrictive it is. For example, in Cyprus to qualify as a lawyer you need to speak either Greek or Turkish, so that itself, limits the number of foreign lawyers that wish to qualify in Cyprus. On this note, there are however, schemes for already qualified lawyers who wish to cross qualify. I hope this helps. All the best, Diana

That is a very good and technical question. To incorporate a company you will have to check the law, regulations and process in the jurisdiction that you wish to practice. Please bear in mind that opening a law firm -in case you meant a law firm- has extra requirements in comparison with a standard company. Hi, do you know whether the GDL or Graduate Entry LLB (2 year degree) would be more valuable in the long term for a career in international law? (Specifially Public International Law and working for IGOs such as the UN? What qualification is best?). Thank you for the video, it is very helpful!
@DianaCon4 жыл бұрын
I completed LLB, but I do not believe that it makes much difference. I was recently listening to a podcast from a former soldier (in the UK) who is now practising international human rights. The beauty of international law is that it is not shaped or has a predetermined path. You need to find yours. However, if you are seeking a particular path such a UN then you should network, apply anything within it and around it.
