This video reflects the confusion: one reason for the convoluted plethora of ideas and muddled thinking that emerge from so many theorists’ attempts to explain their worldview may reflect a fear of simplicity, of mental nudity, so to speak: thus, they tend to categorise and define, in order to encapsulate their thinking in allegedly neat models. Yet these models can themselves be their self-constructed prison; the more they need to categorise, the lazier the mind can become. They shy away from simplicity, since the deep and hard scrutiny of past events is not their priority. For them, simplicity is nudity, which they fear, as they feel vulnerable.

Not idealistic at all... IR can be realistic and see the cruelest part of Human Nature, as Morgenthau would have established, whereas they can see the interaction of States in a Constructivist and sociological perspective (Alexander Wendt). Idealism or institutionalism is just one part of the reality of IR. IR can be really tricky and harder to study than even Physics or other natural sciences, taking into account that there is never an only way of looking and analyzing the behavior of States. Thus, this is what makes IR a really rich science and discipline. It’s sublime and exquisite.
