It is clear that the person sitting in the middle doing the interpretation of the questions and the answers is not a professional. Pretty sure that she is just a Korean student studying abroad at that moment. The organizer of this great event should have hired someone who really could deliver and that could have made a huge difference enabling close communication with people there at the scene. As a native Korean, I feel so frustrated to see her fail so many times to convey what Director Lee truly wants to say to the audience and the interviewer. Besides that it is very interesting to hear some behind stories of the film such as the conversation Lee had with his poet friend about making the film and images and ideas that suddenly came to his mind while sitting and watching TV in a hotel room when he was on trip to Japan. Whenever I watch his films, I mean over and over again, I pray that he will always be strong and healthy.

Can you please translate the whole conversation and upload it to somewhere? Really eager to know what I missed as a non Korean person.

Is it my imagination or does Lee Chang Dong look like he winces because of the translator at 14:52? I was so relieved when he started answering the questions at the end.

Interview would’ve been great without this interpreter. Google has an email interview with Lee Chang Dong to make up for this
