In the manga the battle with meliodas was explained better. Basically escanor was storing up energy within his axe for years and during the battle with melioas he not only used "the one" ( his max power achieve when it's high noon) but also all of the power that he stored up within his axe. It took all that to put down meloidas in his assault mode, and he was still alive. Merlin stated that escanor wouldn't be able to put down meliodas again in the same way unless they would wait another 20 years for him to store up the energy once more.

Bruh Escanor is my favorite character hands down no competition. I just love how his powers work, but how he embodies his sin is just beautiful. How he goes from night time him to day time him is embodies the sin of pride in two different ways. Two ways you can look at pride as a sin is you can see the absence of pride and the over abundance of pride as two sides of the same coin. An abundance is obvious. However, the absence of pride can be related to you not being prideful at all. Escanor was just perfectly written and RIP to the God of the sun. The power of Sunshine could've only be properly contained by Archangels, but when Mael became Estarossa by choosing the Darkness of the Demons, he lost the right to have Sunshine, basically he became unworthy of Sunshine and the Power left him and went into Escanor around the time he was born, but because Escanor was human he couldn't handle the Power a 2nd time of obtaining it and that's why he died, it's kinda like fulling up an already full Tank of water with more water, what'll happen to the Tank? The Pressure of the water would probably cause the tank to explode.

Escanor's death is actually even sadder than you think. He doesn't just die he is GONE like he is erased from all of existence. His soul burned away. When Merlin kissed him she permanently burned her face for the rest of her basically immortal life as a sign to show that Escanor would never be forgotten in her entire existence. She said she couldn't reciprocate his love because she just didn't feel that way about him but she respected him and admired his bravery in life and his willingness to give his life for them. Like his death had major impact on everyone but especially on Merlin.

When Escanor blazes Estarossa straight off the map, it actually *isn't* high noon, in the episode, Escanor actually remarks, *after* blasting Estarossa, that "It's almost noon.", so I'd say it was closer to around 11.30. Also, regarding the "Divine Poke", when the fingertip hitting you is as large as your entire *torso* , and the impact powerful enough to *ruin* your ribcage and send you off the map with you throwing up blood, ain't no shame to be had getting taken out that way, in my opinion 🙂

@InternetCity Sorry to burst your bubble but technically Escanor is BY FAR the strongest character of this anime, and yes not even Meliodas at his peak can compare to him. the reason for me saying that you're wrong, and this is factual (you can do research yourself), is that Escanor has sunshine at full potential making his power level literally infinite. (obviously, as you saw, using sunshine at full potential means you will eventually die no mater what). and then you might ask me: "ok, what about Mael? isn't he the original owner of sunshine and also he is the only one that can control sunshine? Then how comes Mael isn't as strong, of not stronger that Escanor?" the answer to that is simple. yes Mael can control sunshine, which means no side effect of guaranteed death, but, he can't use it at full potential like Escanor can
