For a guy who doesn't like to play bass, Carlos fucking rocks. His basslines on TOTBL and Antics are smooth and crispy. Guy had a hell of a lot of talent.
@SanchezS19984 жыл бұрын
In retrospect, he was probably uniquely talented *because* he didn’t like bass. I’ve noticed that when creative people feel limited or even trapped by the limitations of the budget, gear, manpower, etc. at their disposal, they “optimize” their work to the limitations of the hand they’ve been dealt, and sometimes, beautiful things happen as a result.

So I started playing bass in punk bands not taking it seriously until I heard this song specifically Mr Dengler's bass playing. I cannot stress enough how unorthodox his lines are. He's a lead guitar player and plays the bass not like a bass player but like a lead guitarist hence why the bass sounds the way it does.
@US-wc1rv Жыл бұрын
I can't believe he didn't like playing tbh, you can't write lines like that on sn instrument you dislike. Sounds like he said this as a cop out after regretting leaving the band lol

That wasn't the reason why actually and i thino the real reason is even cooler. the reason why carlos was so evidently content here was simply cause they were barely starting out, this was like the beginning basically when they started to tour and stuff, eventually that just sort of got to him and later down the road years later like I'm talking our love to admire interpol, by then i believe he felt alienated from it all and was ultimately burnt out. thats how i see it.
