this album is one of the most "needs a second or third listen" album i've ever heard, it's pretty out of left field for them so it really grows on you, once you get it you really get it

This is easily Interpol’s best album post-Carlos D. It takes a few listens to fully appreciate-which, in my estimation, all the best albums tend to need. To me, “The Other Side of Make-Believe” is what “Self-Titled” strived to be: Interpol’s mature record. It’s introspective and patient and every single song compliments and connects in tone and pace. Masterpiece!

This album exceeded all my expectations! The songwriting for all of the tracks are very strong and is full to the brim of Interpol signature guitar sounds and Paul's voice. Adding more piano elements. This is their best album as a 3 piece considering I loved both El Pintor and Marauder! They are proving that they are masters in their craft. Love you Interpol!

Such a great record! It hasn't quite topped Marauder for me but it may if it keeps growing on me. It's definitely their most unique record, it's so great hearing how comfortable Paul is becoming behind the bass, some of his best playing by far as well as vocally. I always love hearing their takes on the songs, I'm curious if we'll see B-sides👀

They kinda talk about Toni and Something Changed like its indicative of the album, its not. Album's great tho. Love this vid too, I wanna know how the "mathy" version of into the night would sound. The fact that Mr Credit is from a line in 'M' is interesting too. Passenger is my favorite, 'we need MO of that sweet, sweet chorus daniel' Also a bit weird you guys put a transition for every song except Go Easy

My 2 favorite tracks on this album are "Something's Changed" and "Renegade Hearts". These songs mean something to me personally. But you know, I think it's best NOT to know so much about how the song was composed or what the lyrics mean. Keep all that a mystery for the audience. Preserve the "magic". Don't show us how the magic trick was pulled off. TMI. My favorite song of all time is the Walkmen's "Summer Stage". It reminds me of a time when I was 10, 11, 12 growing up in North Hollywood. Other than that, I have no clue what the song is actually about nor do I care to ever know. It means something specific to me. That's all that matters.

This is great insight into the creative process. Always enjoy hearing about how musicians piece things together. Side A of the album flows really well and is quite enjoyable. Save Passengers and Gran Hotel on Side B, the remaining tracks are forgettable and unfortunately "samey." Remove two songs and this is a tight album. Regardless, a more mature, well-aged Interpol. Looking forward to catching them live later this summer.

I wanted to like it since the last album was meh but it’s not good and I think it’s their experimental phase. Just lost their magic from their first 3 and El Pintor been the best since Carlos. The album ratings are fair imo. Few bands can release an album that kills from track 1 to its end. Interpol been lucky to do this twice maybe 3 times. But their later stuff isn’t doing that. I’m not sure if it’s the lack of Carlos or their need to not be TOTBL but they remind me of how Depeche Mode went down hill once Alan Wilder left.
@stonedage50872 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Depeche mode still kicked some serious ass after wilder's departure.
@DR.MF.DOOMSDAY2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s anything to do with Carlos at all anymore. El Pintor was an excellent record made post Carlos (my favourite of theirs tbh) but I think they are definitely in some sort of phase where Marauder, Fine Mess EP and Make Believe have been cut from the same cloth and are just too similar for sure in many ways I enjoy the new record but I did have a higher expectation this time I can’t lie
