Thanks for the videos. Could you make a video on how to calculate the thickness of a formation? Equations are simple and the method is straightforward, but it would be good to see it being applied to a real map and maybe for a rugged terrain if possible.

There are a couple of videos that look at this on the channel: Estimating stratigraphic thicknesses - using outcrop width on maps (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJm9kKOAgduKicU) Glencoul section construction (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e16ZYaSIlJyeo8U) and the Assynt road section exercises/videos .... but the biggest issue is if the formation you are analysing has a single thickness - or is wedge-shaped.... Hope this helps.

Can I say that, tectonically speaking, it is important to interpret a regional map by sketching the map and then cutting it and making profiles in different directions?

I always find it useful to scope out the broad themes on a map - and a summary sketch map is a good way of marshalling your thoughts and interpretations (rather than just "do it in your head"). Likewise, sketching small cross-sections to interpret the subsurface (and eroded) geology is an important way of creating understanding of the 3D structure... which is what this is all about.... (not just the "tectonic" structure, but also of the stratigraphic relationships...
