This geological and environmental tour of the spectacular Oman Mountains will include some of the most impressive geological sites in the World. We will see largest and best preserved ophiolite sequence (a slab of oceanic crust and upper mantle emplaced onto the Arabian continental margin between 95 and 70 million years ago), including the Moho, pillow lavas and sheeted dykes. We will study the beautifully preserved Mesozoic passive margin along some spectacular deeply incised wadis including the 'Grand Canyon' Wadi Nakhr. The tour will include sites of recumbently folded sedimentary rocks in the Hawasina Window, Triassic Exotic seamounts immediately beneath the Semail ophiolit eat Jebel Misht, and the High-pressure eclogites of As Sifah beach region near Muscat. The tour will travel in comfortable 4-wheel drive Land Cruiser with local Omani drivers and guides, and we will stay in good to luxury accommodation in 3 - 5 star hotels along the way. We will time to swim at Sifah beach, shop in Muttrah souq and possibly a sunset dhow trip along the rugged Muscat coastline to end the tour.
Tour Led by: Professors Mike Searle & Bruce Levell.

This is not a lecture for the uninitiated. The terms used and the speed of the lecture are not geared towards the casual interest in geology. I am not surprised only 24 people have watched this.

You have to know quite a bit about geologic processes, geologic history, chemistry, etc., to understand the geology of Oman. Any lecture on ophiolite and such isn't going to be for the average person just interested in geology. I hope you were able to come back to the video with more understanding because the geology of Oman is truly amazing and this is a very good presentation on it. Cheers xx

I am in Palawan, the south half is ophiolite, so this, while 'deep' helped some, thank you.
