In this lesson, we will calculate and compare the interquartile range, the range, and the mean absolute deviation of data. The range of data is just the difference between the largest and smallest data point. The interquartile range (IQR) is the found by throwing out the outliers and finding the range between the Q1 and Q3 quartiles of the data. The mean absolute deviation (MAD) is a measure of, on average, how far the data lies above and below the mean of the data set.

Thank you. I’m 58 and taking Statistics and my Professor goes too fast for my slow brain. At least I have this for my next exam. (I cried during exam😂). But apparently I’m not the only one. Need to keep my A But nothing was making sense previously. Love the way you teach.

Hi Jason, question If a high school student is planning to self study physics who never taken it before, is it worth it to study and go into a AP physics 1 and 2 class even if i’m not planning to take the AP test? Does AP physics 1 and 2 teach more content/explain better than Regular physics 1 and 2?

It mostly depends on teacher. AP goes faster and covers a bit more however. I would say if your math skills are good then go for it. If shaky (like mine were in HS) then do regular physics. You’ll take physics again in university anyway. Nothing wrong with a regular class that you fully understand over an AP class that you do poorly in!

well, usually mad is used as a *median* absolute deviation rather than *mean* absolute deviation so it's median(abs(Xi - median(X))

It seems that IQR would be most practical to use when data is unevenly dispersed, and not resembling a Bell Curve; otherwise Variance and Standard Deviation would be a better choice to evaluate the data spread.

I went to Vegas one time. I played the 1 armed bandits. I played them later in life but at a small scale. I never played more than I could afford to lose and then I quit for that week. I tended to come out ahead. The machines payout to keep you playing until you lose money but if you quit after winning 3-5.00 you come out ahead over time. I won on the bandits in Vegas too but a buddy was on the BJ tables and borrowed money he did not pay back. You lose faster than a cat can lick his posterior on the BJ unless you are a pro...stay away!
